This activity is now closed

As parents, it’s almost a right of passage to have at least a few nights where your child just won’t settle down for bed. They’re either still a little hyper from the day’s events, they don’t feel like sleeping or they’re just restless. That’s why Moonlite would love to know how you get your child to relax and calm down before bedtime.

Here’s what Moonlite have to say: “Moonlite makes bedtime stories come to life, with full HD story images and in-app sound effects to make the reading experience immersive and magical for children. Feed and fuel children's imaginations and bring back the love of reading through a creative, immersive storytelling and bonding experience.”

Watch this video all about how the Moonlite Storytime Projector can help you at bedtime:

Is it a classic bedtime story coupled with cosying up in bed that does the trick? Perhaps you find having quiet music playing in the background helps them calm down and feel sleepy? Do you try to get them into the same bedtime routine every night so they know when it’s time to wind down? Have you managed to find the blackest of black-out blinds? Or maybe a nice relaxing bath and getting into their cosy PJs tends to help?

However you get your child to relax before bedtime, post on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I think mine might be a vampire. I tried bath, reading, early supper, low light, etc, etc, but none of it really worked. I often nodded off while reading or telling bedtime stories and was elbowed awake by her.

A bath, a dim bedroom light, a mug of warm milk and a lovely bedtime story, always fall asleep before the end of the story :-)

MrRichTea · 11/10/2018 16:23

Cuddles, Milk / Water, Book

myusername12345 · 11/10/2018 16:47

Book and then two verses of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

svalentine60 · 11/10/2018 16:49

Always a warm bath just before bed time , a bedtime story and a night light. Works every time.

Rachdayan · 11/10/2018 17:02

Usually a warm bath with a relaxing bubble bath for sleep. We also have a mini star projector that covers the ceiling in stars, so it's not totally dark.

LeeR1985 · 11/10/2018 17:07

Classic bedtime story, nothing has ever worked better than that for getting the child to wind down and relax :)

JoJoY · 11/10/2018 17:10

Our bedtime routine is always the same, big bubble bath, story, cuddle and sleep!

Sleavercole123 · 11/10/2018 17:34

My daughter has a bath or shower, reads in bed and then goes to sleep with her cat on her bed

Genie56 · 11/10/2018 17:39

I used to read my daughter bedtime story and always make sure you have dim lighting and if need be a nightlight to help make them feel secure and safe.

Ikea1234 · 11/10/2018 17:49

I use the old tradition of bath then bed, with a story when they're tucked up. I have also used a sleep mist for the room, but I can appreciate that's not everyone's choice of it may not be suitable for some children. My son is autistic and can struggle to settle, but we find it works like a dream (excuse the pun!)

witchofwestwick · 11/10/2018 18:49

Bath followed by PJ's that have been warmed. Then a relaxing story with lights dimmed.

EsmesBees · 11/10/2018 19:44

Three books, then we have a little chat about her day, and then a song and I stroke her back. It sometimes even works!

Minnibix · 11/10/2018 19:47

A bath and bedtime story always works wonders for me

towser44 · 11/10/2018 20:03

A set routine as much as possible and always a nice bedtime book reading 10 minutes!

xcxcsophiexcxc · 11/10/2018 20:12

We read and book and have milkies

twinklenic · 11/10/2018 20:13

we have a wind down hour before bed ,where we read a story , have a bath then have a cuddle together .

arat · 11/10/2018 20:29

Calm-down time and reading time (either us reading to them when they are young, or them reading on their own as they get older)

DenCop1 · 11/10/2018 20:53

Wee try to stick to a routine of games after dinner, then bath and wind down time before supper and a story, this generally works for a smooth bedtime with the occasional little tantrum but nothing major.

sm2012 · 11/10/2018 21:27

A relaxing warm bath with bubbles, then milk and stories in her bed. I always sing a couple of songs as well :)

Mehaveit · 11/10/2018 21:30

My 3 year old just needs a mummy snuggle and she's relaxed and yawning.

My 5 year old needs reading by herself wind down time followed by a meditation story for kids (30 minutes) and then meditation music for kids (till we go to bed)

pennwood · 11/10/2018 21:31

Routine is key. Quiet time, bath/teeth, story in bed, cuddle, then lights out.

emmmaaa26 · 11/10/2018 22:09

A nice relaxing bath and a story book.

t00dle00 · 11/10/2018 22:14

My son has a bath or shower, with warm pjs from the radiator on straight after, we then read a book while he has a small snack and drink of milk and then we listen to an audiobook while we have a cuddle before he nods off.

dadshere · 11/10/2018 22:18

a nice warm bath followed by a long calming story!
