NOW CLOSED

Being chief decision-maker comes with the territory when you’re a parent - but sometimes the best way to go is not so clear cut. Take our quiz to find out how your decisions following common parenting conundrums align with those of other users’.

Here’s what O2 have to say: “#IsItAlright to let them use a tablet at breakfast? We hear you. Parenting is full of #IsItAlright questions, challenges and dilemmas. That’s why we’ve launched O2 Family, to bring advice, safety tools and kid-friendly offers to parents across the UK. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. But hopefully we make it a little easier to navigate the everyday messy magic of family life."

Whether you turn to the TV when things get tough, choose to embrace your child’s creativity no matter how questionable it may be or you find bargaining with your children the best way to get things done, take the quiz here and share any results that surprise you (or your own parenting conundrums) below.

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Crikey I don't stray far from the pack 😂

Pinkprincess1978 · 14/09/2018 23:10

I was surprised not everyone chose to answer every question. Most of my answers were with the majority but done with the minority... such is life 😀

RubaDubMum89 · 14/09/2018 23:20

Turns out all my answers were the top voted answers. No greens no pudding, out and about to beat boredom, 1...2...3... For bedtime and earplugs!
I think this means I'm now officially a mumsnetter! Where can I pick up my membership card from? 😂

PickAChew · 14/09/2018 23:39

Amazing how typical we are even though we're not.

NoNoCharlieRascal · 14/09/2018 23:47

Yup, apparently completely average. Not sure how I feel about that Confused

sarat1 · 15/09/2018 09:04

Sounds like I'm about the same as everybody else!

Whitelisbon · 15/09/2018 10:05

I'm in the majority for most. And, seeing as I'm on dc5, if they want to wear a swimming costume to a family event they can. As long as it's clean I really don't care. And anyone who does can go whistle!

DitaFajitaJones · 15/09/2018 10:37

To be honest, most of them were the same as the majority of other people. My daughter loves fruit and vegetables though...strangely not that fussed about eating meat (and me and my partner are not vegetarians, she just doesn't seem to like the texture I think)

My conundrum I have at the moment is in regards to technology. My daughter is obsessed. She only gets to play on games as a treat and it is restricted time but on a weekend, it is the first thing she asks for the second she wakes up (she wakes up earlier on a weekend than in the week because of it as well). She only gets it at particular times of the day if she has behaved and it is timed how long she plays it.

We do lots of activities with her, lots of going out and going for walks, going to local events, museums, farms etc and to the park, and she loves playing with toys and doing arts and crafts, so it isn't a boredom thing but anytime she doesn't have it she talks about it.

To the point where we have had to ban it completely at times for constant pestering. I am tempted now to ban all technology in our house for the foreseeable future...which is hard when you work in IT...

Has anyone had this sort of obsession before? AIBU?

Coffeemummy123 · 15/09/2018 11:19

I sound wishy washy but for all the reading, classes and experience every child is different and presents different challenges. Yes it's great to have a firm foundation but in this day and age, with all the freedom children have I find it trial and error and it's not one size fits all! I feel like I'm juggling ten different plates with their age ranges. All in all I do the best I can and tomorrow's another chance to get it right!

im2fat · 15/09/2018 13:05

Other than kids not getting bored over the summer I am pretty average. Why make a fuss when you can make it a game then it's a win win 🤷‍♀️

jacqui5366 · 15/09/2018 13:10

my decisions following common parenting conundrums, I am super average, which means my firm rules and sticking to them are what others are doing too.

Fanjango · 15/09/2018 13:13

Think I may be a little lax by comparison to these percentages. Having said that as a mum of four and three of the family with asd I think ours kind of natural to have given up with the small things and just enjoy the successes

del2929 · 15/09/2018 17:15

im in with the rest- slap the tele on and feed em cake- happy days

outnumbered77 · 15/09/2018 19:00

No surprises. I'm pretty typical apparently.

cranky · 15/09/2018 19:44

Pretty similar

Signoritawhocansway · 15/09/2018 20:28

Done. Interesting questions. I'm surprisingly average, and I thought I was strict!

mummy2pickle · 15/09/2018 20:45

All completed. Seems my answers mirror the majority

Nelumbo · 15/09/2018 21:24

I'm in the majority for most of the questions, though I would stick my kids in front of the tv if they were complaining of being bored on the first day of the summer hols!

Gillian1980 · 15/09/2018 21:29

Done the quiz.

Disappointed on the pirate outfit question that there wasn’t the option of it being absolutely fine, even welcomed!

Jeffingandeffing · 15/09/2018 21:50

Couple of my answers were the most popular but seems I’m in the minority when it comes to others!

MajesticWhine · 15/09/2018 21:56

Majority answers here. School holiday question did not really resonate as I am at work and book childcare and holiday clubs. There are some far trickier conundrums for teenagers I feel.

LoveAGoodChat · 15/09/2018 22:21

I'm a majority for all except the one where the kids are bored Grin

HerRoyalFattyness · 15/09/2018 23:10

Majority on bedtime, clothes and food (no surprise really, although a more true to life answer for the clothes would have been to shrug and find them an eye patch)
Music id use earplugs...only because i dont have a dog to feed it to...
And TV keeps them quiet for half an hour Grin

OfficeDictionary · 16/09/2018 00:12

Thought I was pretty strict but it seems I'm in the minority and on the softer side... hmm...

YesitsJacqueline · 16/09/2018 01:12

Done. Who else thought they were original with the " 1...2....3" ??
