NOW CLOSED

Being chief decision-maker comes with the territory when you’re a parent - but sometimes the best way to go is not so clear cut. Take our quiz to find out how your decisions following common parenting conundrums align with those of other users’.

Here’s what O2 have to say: “#IsItAlright to let them use a tablet at breakfast? We hear you. Parenting is full of #IsItAlright questions, challenges and dilemmas. That’s why we’ve launched O2 Family, to bring advice, safety tools and kid-friendly offers to parents across the UK. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. But hopefully we make it a little easier to navigate the everyday messy magic of family life."

Whether you turn to the TV when things get tough, choose to embrace your child’s creativity no matter how questionable it may be or you find bargaining with your children the best way to get things done, take the quiz here and share any results that surprise you (or your own parenting conundrums) below.

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

On the violin question their wasn't the choice to trade the violin for a drum kit. Still noisy but less grating.

tanyavt · 01/10/2018 22:35

Same as many of the others... don't sweat the small stuff. They all grow up (mostly) to be well adjusted human beings!

grannybiker · 01/10/2018 22:38

I think I must have mellowed over the years.
Some of the stuff just doesn't piss me off at all these days!
Maybe I'm unleashing my inner indulgent grandma!

lorrainej162 · 02/10/2018 08:10

I'm pretty much in agreement with most people!

GrooveHeart · 02/10/2018 08:11

No results really stood out as unusual.

Loftzilla · 02/10/2018 08:33

The veg conundrum, sometimes I don't fancy broccoli or peas and it's the same with children, what they'll eat one day they might not another, just offer variety and they end up eating well! I don't think force feeding children is a good idea and I think that's what leads to problems and obstinacy.

angiehoggett · 02/10/2018 09:08

I'm average which is surprising!

thisone2 · 02/10/2018 10:00

Glad I'm not a parent

lovelyluckylass · 02/10/2018 12:31

Im also a typical mumsnetter. It was interesting to see the different responses though :)

holey · 02/10/2018 13:17

I'm clearly a bit lax! Who are all the super-strict scary parents out there?

emmav6 · 02/10/2018 13:33

I think i would probably have different answers for each child - first(strict), middle(more freedom) & youngest(who gets away with way too much)

Morbitonic · 02/10/2018 13:54

I'm surprised i have pretty 'normal' parenting choices with the quiz which i wasn't expecting.

snare · 02/10/2018 14:18

I mostly agree with other parents :)

chezvic · 02/10/2018 14:43

Not sure I believe that nearly 50% withhold dessert if they won't eat their vegetables.
And the pirate costume/ bedtime question would depend on what mood we were both in as to how that 'fight/ debate' went down.

baconbap · 02/10/2018 15:37

Usually in the 2nd from top answer

Beforetoday · 02/10/2018 15:55

Most of these are the every day ones, but I came out v laissez faire (sp?!). We all have different triggers and we are all picking our battles I guess....

mclarkie · 02/10/2018 16:38

I'm off the compared to the average responses

Brandypie · 02/10/2018 16:52

Unsurprisingly fairly typical it seems. It did feel like I was answering the same way I imagine my mum might have done back in the day too!

AVL90 · 02/10/2018 17:25

Sad so many give up on the veggies!

Squina1 · 02/10/2018 18:00

I struggled with The Dinnertime Conundrum one, as they do have to eat most of their vegetables, but don't have pudding every night anyway, so the threat doesn't always work. We find portioning off a section that they can manage seems to work, or, if it's peas, 'Another 15 more,' so they spend time counting them as they put them in their mouths.

Parentingsortof · 02/10/2018 19:04

Its reassuring that other parents think like me

matphil · 02/10/2018 19:37

My answers were not always in agreement with the top ones but they are what works for us.

angela121262 · 02/10/2018 19:45

Being a perfect Mum isn’t for everyone, but trying to be perfect is Very important!

fishnships · 02/10/2018 20:53

Interesting survey.

PhilTB54 · 02/10/2018 21:19

Average v v v v average.
