Deodorant for a lot of people is a staple in their daily routine and there will come a time when you have to buy your child/children their first deodorant too, if you haven’t already! Therefore Dove would love to find out about all your experiences and preferences when it comes to deodorant for both your child and yourself.

Here’s what Dove have to say: “At Dove, all of our anti-perspirant products deliver reliable all day protection against sweat and odour with a gentle formula, which cares for delicate underarm skin. We know that you want to make the best choices for your teenagers when it comes to the products they use on their skin. We want to hear what is important to you when it comes to selecting products for yourself and your teenagers!”

What deodorant do you buy and why? Did you buy a specific kind of deodorant for your child’s first one? Did you have a chat with your child on how and why they needed to start using it? Do you or your child prefer spray, roll-on or stick? Are there any scents you love or do you go for the ones without scents? What is the most important factor for you when buying a deodorant for yourself and/or your child? What about anti-mark deodorants?

Whatever you and/or your child’s experiences are around deodorant, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I buy Dove because of the moisturiser, makes it more comfy after shaving underarms. They seem to have stopped making my favourite one with the peach/pink cap, really gutted as it was great. Have to settle for the "no white marks" one now - fine as a deodorant but definitely still leaves marks, especially on black t shirts...

FuckYouBing · 11/09/2018 22:53

I use Sanex roll on. I’ve always found that dove roll ons don’t last on me for the whole day although I really like the dove scents. I generally don’t like the sprays as they seem to get in to my throat. Desperately trying to persuade DH to go for a roll on or stick

quizqueen · 11/09/2018 22:57

I'm not keen on heavy floral scents so usually buy whatever's on offer with a neutral scent like something called Ocean Breeze!

CaveMaman · 12/09/2018 00:31

I use dove spray. Everything else gives me eczema.

rhinosuze · 12/09/2018 07:43

I remember as a teen it was all about impulse sprays which I don't think any of us realised weren't deodorant! Left awful yellow marks on our school shirts and stung like mad when you sprayed it (inevitably after shaving). These days I'm quite conscious of the nasties in deodorant so I'd want something relatively natural for my daughter but I know I've found it hard to find a good one myself.
Not keen on roll ons find them sticky. To be honest I've not had dove for many years so will think of trying it

angiehoggett · 12/09/2018 09:17

I've recently started using triple dry which is a fab roll on deodorant, doesn't leave white marks and is very effective. I used to use a dove 48 protection but it left terrible white marks however it did work really well.

Shuggas · 12/09/2018 10:22

I use Mitchum roll on, I live the smell and it's the best deodorant I've found that actually does the job. I don't think I'd try anything else..if it ain't broke ..Smile

I tend to buy Nivea Invisible for the whole family, although DD who has just started using deodorant is after a more 'feminine' smell than that so is currently using all manner of 'smelly ones' (anything that takes her fancy).

Yes, we did have a chat. Repeatedly with DS, once with DD.

The children prefer spray on ones (although I would rather they used other types).

Prefer scent-free ones really so there's no clash with perfume/aftershave.

The most important factors buying them are cost but primarily that they do what they say on the container. There is nothing worse than one that doesn't work effectively.

natavi · 12/09/2018 11:34

One of my children is allergic to many spray deodorants, gives him the sniffles something terrible! So as a result I now buy roll on for him which is just as effective without the nasty side effects!

aggga8 · 12/09/2018 12:52

I use roll- on Nivea, im using them for a years and love it. Never try Dove

claza93 · 12/09/2018 12:57

To be honest - I buy what is on offer at the time! We always use a roll on.
Funnily enough my 11 year old has just asked to start using it... off to pick her some up this week! Have to have a chat that she still needs to have a wash as well.....

MrRichTea · 12/09/2018 13:08

Dove Clean smells divine, it's quite pricey though, so tend to buy when on special offer

WowOoo · 12/09/2018 17:47

I buy one without aluminium. I've used it for years and am happy with it.
My son uses the same one as I think it's quite 'weak' as far as deo goes. When he starts to pong a bit more as he ages is when I'll advise him to use an anti-perspirant.

sarah861421 · 12/09/2018 18:38

Mine started with High School, just put a selection in the bathroom. a few gentle reminders for my son but they both got the routine fairly quickly

Redbook · 12/09/2018 19:44

I'm in the look out for a good deodorant. For the last few years I haven't found any deodorant that I like. They leave residue on my clothes and don't make me feel fresh. I usually buy what's on offer and all the main brands.

Dormouse1940 · 12/09/2018 19:54

Oh, I'm a long way off this with DS.
But I do remember my mum having to have The Chat with my elder sister when she came home one day and asked why she 'smelt like old people' under her arms.
My poor mum!

Pindlesandneedles · 12/09/2018 20:02

I’ve stopped buying dove (although I think it’s great) because of the plastic waste. I’ve started using a brand which uses a cardboard tube. Not as good as dove but no plastic. Could you look at making your products more sustainable?

beckyinman · 12/09/2018 20:24

I'm happy to give anything a go that works, but like the ones that Vaseline do

spottypjs · 12/09/2018 20:45

I prefer roll on to spray just because it seems to work better but to be honest I wish I used a better one. I only like unperfumed or a very slight scent which is hard to find.

Bollockingfuck · 12/09/2018 21:02

I use Dove cream antiperspirant - either the original or non white mark. I have quite sensitive skin (react to washing powder and products with perfume in) but have used those for years without any bad effect. When my son started needing deodorant last year I got him the ‘OY’ roll on from Green People. It’s more natural than most brands and only very lightly scented with orange and other essential oils. He is extremely sensitive to smells and wouldn’t have been able to tolerate the highly perfumes brands like lynx etc.
I think the more natural and unscented you can go with Five products the better. I think most people want fewer chemicals and less plastic in everything nowadays.

mishknight · 12/09/2018 21:06

Noticed my DD was a bit whiffy recently so I bought her some unscented 'Mum' deodorant

LadyDuplo · 12/09/2018 21:09

I use any aluminium free deodorant that's on offer.

Children too young for deodorant at the moment

SpaceDinosaur · 12/09/2018 21:13

Dove's banned in our household after their nasty advertising campaign for "Baby" slating breastfeeding in public.

10milewalk · 12/09/2018 21:36

I bought my children roll-on for sensitive skin when they first needed it. We had a chat about the importance of clean fresh clothes on every day and daily washing and showers. I tend to buy my children whatever is on offer and now they are a little older I let them pick for themselves, my son likes to use spray deodorant and my daughter likes to use the ones that don't leave marks.

katieskatie82 · 12/09/2018 22:37

i usually buy dove ad never had to think of buying any for the kids. My eldest is now 10 years old and recently had to buy him some Lynx. Hes very sporty and sweats alot. Ive explained its just so he doesnt smell when he sweats. He loves using it now
