This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

30 minutes while the kids are napping/nursery/school seems like a day and I get loads done, manage to change 3 beds, hoover upstairs and down and stick the kettle on

mrpeterhall · 24/08/2018 22:17

I can knock out a reasonable dinner starting from scratch and have it on the table in 30 minutes...........provided my wife is keeping the little ones occupied.

lhlee62 · 24/08/2018 22:18

Have a shower, wash my hair and do a quick de-fuzz

OnlyToWin · 24/08/2018 22:23

I can blitz the kitchen in half an hour and prepare something to shove in the slo cooker. I prefer to work with a strict time limit as it focuses my mind. 30 minutes is the perfect amount of time to get stuff done without getting bored.

pfcpompeysarah · 24/08/2018 22:55

Washing in machine, lunch prep started, cat fed, put away dry dishes, mop floor and hoover a few rooms if needed.

KittyKat88 · 24/08/2018 23:30

30 mins? I usually find myself sorting out the kids' bedrooms and preparing things for the nighttime and following day e.g. getting out clothes/school uniforms to save time in the morning. If I know things are ready for the morning it is easier for me to relax in the evening once my girls have gone to sleep.

I could pick up a book and actually do some reading!

Pmliu · 25/08/2018 00:14

I can prepare lunch in half an hour, make a fruit salad for my little ones as they love fruit

Margaurette · 25/08/2018 05:30

Blitz the bathroom!

Pattygonia · 25/08/2018 08:09

I get more done I feel I put on some good mûsic - in fact I have a clean8ng/chore playlist on Spotify..

I can give 2 rooms a tidy and vac, or do dishwasher and deal with laundry in that sort of time.

ifigoup · 25/08/2018 08:41

Put a roast in, put laundry on, clean the kitchen, listen to a bit of The Archers podcast or an episode of Just A Minute.

wonderstuff16 · 25/08/2018 08:42

Lots of ironing - always amazes me how much you can get through in a small space of time.

sarah861421 · 25/08/2018 09:21

I could clean the kitchen, or some ironing. or better still I could go for a quick walk with the dog. I know which I would prefer

KentUnicorn · 25/08/2018 10:30

Washing up, load the washing machine, make the bed and maybe do some dusting or have a cup of tea!

cluckyhen · 25/08/2018 10:52

I can get the majority of my housework done in 30 mins - or I can jump on the turbo trainer and get at least 10 miles training in!

deano777 · 25/08/2018 11:37

In 30 minutes I can wash dishes and put away, put a load of washing on, and run around with the cordless hoover downstairs

mumsbe · 25/08/2018 12:44

While the kids are on sky kids I can catch up with tv shows on sky catch up while on my excersize bike or I can enter competitions on mumsnet with a biscuits and coffee. Getting sky kids was the best thing I did as there is no arguments about tv channels and I think it's 4 devices so both kids can access different channels and you can set it up for their age. All they do is choose a character to be and off they go. It's also good for my autistic child when we travel on the bus or long journeys as I have it on my phone so don't need Wi-Fi. Much better than them being on utube.

MillieLikesSketty · 25/08/2018 13:01

Today I reckon Peppa on the sky tv and sky kids app on the iPad for the 4 yo DD would let me finish the bed I’m trying to put together while DH is at work 10 days straight, nap time is not long enough Grin

twinklenic · 25/08/2018 14:36

when i get a spare 30 mins i usually stack the dishwasher, hoover up and do some laundry

Lheath · 25/08/2018 14:41

Clean the kitchen, put some washing on and hover.

maclinks · 25/08/2018 15:26

30 minutes is enough time to bake a tray of cookies wash up and tidy out a cupboard while the beauties are baking

Marg2k8 · 25/08/2018 15:32

Do the washing up then sit down with a cup of coffee and browse the net.

Frogletmamma · 25/08/2018 15:40

In a lazy mood today so would spend my 30 mins on Mumsnet-where else?

grantd1 · 25/08/2018 15:59

I can get up, showered, dressed, breakfast, teeth brushed and out the door in 30 mins.

TracyKNixon · 25/08/2018 19:35

Have a bath and put a face mask on!
