This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

30 minutes ? (If only!) I for one wouldn't be chasing round trying to be Superwoman. I'd sit in the kitchen with Classic FM soothing my mind and reading a chapter or two of the book I always have open on the worktop. I used to be able to lose myself in a book for hours on end. Now I take each minute I can get!

flozza42 · 06/09/2018 19:29

In 30 minutes I can put in a wash, prepare packed lunch, prep tea for later and take a shower before getting reading for work - I am super mum !

lorrainej162 · 06/09/2018 19:32

Vacuum the whole house, one load of washing and clean the bathroom.

upthehammers · 06/09/2018 20:04

if they're genuinely distracted enough to not be bothering me i have a bath - guaranteed that when I get into it when they're in bed, one will wake up and desperately need the toilet or something so i have to get out!

other than that I could get a load of washing into the dryer, stick another load on to wash and get dinner on the go.

It has been such a rarity I've no idea. Maybe sort through our loose photos and put them into albums.

Meditate. Follow breathing. Inhale for 5 sec's, Hold for 4 sec's & slowly exhale for 7 sec's. V v v v calming.

Hoover the house from top to bottom and polishing

laurapotz · 06/09/2018 20:57
  1. Take one lemon, cut a slice and place in a glass. 2. Remove ice cubes from freezer and add to glass. 3. Drizzle over an ample amount of gin. 4. Fill to brim with tonic. 5. Flop on the sofa and enjoy
kelliec · 06/09/2018 21:28

I would say loads but I would probably just waste it looking on pinterest or instagram!

Gill81uk · 06/09/2018 22:00

Get both bathrooms cleaned!! I'm always so relieved when that horrible job is out of the way!

Kangakate · 06/09/2018 22:22

washing in, dishwasher emptied and dinner started

baconbap · 06/09/2018 22:45

cook tea and do some washing

Petitcanard · 06/09/2018 23:01

Well, I’d love to say that I’d do something soothing and relaxing if I had a free 30 minutes, like a soak in the tub or a massage, but the Mum in me knows that I’d be making the packed lunches while answering a call from Auntie Mabel, letting the dog out and filling the sink to do the dishes at the same time. Maybe one day I’ll be able to pick up a book and read further than the first 2 sentences before having to find my DD’s shoe or my DS’s homework...

robyn297 · 06/09/2018 23:44

I could put a load of washing on, clean the kitchen and pack away the previous load of washing.

pinkspideruk · 06/09/2018 23:59

sort out my underwear and sock drawers and finally through out the old grey pants and the holey socks that I know are lurking in both but dont have time to t root out and bin

Nettie17 · 07/09/2018 06:29

I clean one room and make it tidy

poppypants · 07/09/2018 07:29

Washing in, hoover the landing and get tonight's casserole in the slow cooker ready!

greensmith68 · 07/09/2018 08:30

my most productive use of 30 mins is before bed i use this time to put the pots away pack lucnches for next day wipe the sides and sink sweep the floor in kitchen and steam mop fluff cushions in lounge lock up and then tidy the bathroom and clean sink finally i put bleach in the toilet to leave over night

Jocelynne123 · 07/09/2018 11:17

I would use the 30 mins for myself. A quick shower, face mask, read a few pages of my book with a cup of tea. You have to sneak in me time where you can xx

Bellroyd · 07/09/2018 11:22

I could vacuum the floor, tidy up the bedrooms and have 5 minutes spare for some afternoon delight.

maria08k · 07/09/2018 11:30

I would sit outside and listen to the world.

cathyov · 07/09/2018 12:24

Amazing what you can do in 30 minutes; whizz round with the hoover, sort out the washing, do all the washing up, even get some cakes in the oven - I go into super efficiency mode when I get a precious half and hour.

purplepandas · 07/09/2018 12:44

Get a room cleaned, some washing put away and a wash on. It's amazing what you can get done in a short space of time if that's all you have.
