This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Get stuff in the slow cooker ready to go on the next morning, tidy up the pots from that night's dinner, make packed lunches then load the washing machine. Usually whilst Emmerdale is on!

pinkjjf27 · 25/08/2018 21:56

After dinner we have "tablet time" the kids sit there watching their favourite videos and programmes one of them being at the moment the gruffalo. Whilst they do this I can finish my own dinner, run them a bath and sort out the washing pile before I bath them finally and put them down to bed

Pillowaddict · 26/08/2018 00:59

Fill the machine with a 15 minute cycle, tidy kitchen and out any washing away, make a quick pasta sauce/soup for tea or freezing and hanging out quick cycle when done. I do nothing particularly well so can do a lot quickly!!

kennythekangaroo · 26/08/2018 09:32

In 30 minutes I could straighten, dust and hoover the downstairs.

Kareq · 26/08/2018 09:36

When the kids are watching 30 mins of tv I grab a shower, clean the kitchen and hang up a a washing.
Pre- kids in 30 mins it would just be the shower!

Cailin7 · 26/08/2018 10:51

empty dishwasher, tidy away laundry, have a wee cup of tea

Helsbells68 · 26/08/2018 10:59

Play solitaire to unwind and enter competitons

laurac1987 · 26/08/2018 11:16

This is usually enough time for me to empty and refill the dishwasher, pre some vegetables for dinner and put on a load of washing (alongside a sneaky 5 minute coffee!).

llewejk · 26/08/2018 11:59

Make some dinner

kpdchudleigh · 26/08/2018 15:09

Get the washing off the line, peg out the second load, iron school shirts, whip up some pasta sauce and broker world peace.

helly27 · 26/08/2018 16:26

Sort out the car insurance

lynsmagoo · 26/08/2018 16:42

MummaL24 · 26/08/2018 19:45

I have three kids ages 4/5 and 9 all into something different so if behaved (while I need peace) they will each get there kindle to watch sky go kids on best app ever kids can watch whatever they want without an argument and I can get my washing or ironing done amazing and even better you can download films & programs to take on the plane or long drive

Just make sure I have three sets of head phones 😂

DassDass · 26/08/2018 20:30

I should use this time for a coffee and a book, but like most seem to end up using it to catch up on odd jobs and bits of cleaning. how sad!

felixbelix2 · 26/08/2018 21:07

This post is so depressing. A bunch of mum's listing all the domestic chores they do in a day. Would dads respond the same way to this question? Bet my husband wouldn't.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 26/08/2018 21:24

I would start by putting a load of washing on (as there's always a load ready to go on) and then do a few chores that make a visual impact eg. clean toilets and bathroom sinks, tidy kitchen and unload/load dishwasher and tidy the living room by clearing any clutter and generally straightening it up.

DillieDoily · 26/08/2018 21:28

In 30 minutes where the kids are occupied with TV I can usually hang up a washing, put away clean laundry and give upstairs a general tidy. Nothing very exciting!

Halfahalo · 26/08/2018 22:20

I make drinks and food when I get a chance, although it's all usually cold before I get chance to have it.
Or, I aim to get at least one household task done, like clothes washing, dusting or windows

buckley1983 · 26/08/2018 23:20

In 30 mins - I can do a quick cleaning blitz! This usually consists of;

  • Pop kettle on
  • Do washing up
  • Spray & wipe down surfaces
  • Pause to make tea
  • Wipe down surface again to mop up spilt tea
  • Sweep downstairs
  • Race upstairs, make beds!
  • Quick vacuum round bedrooms
  • Pause to slurp tea
  • Pop head round lounge door to check LO still immersed in Teen Titans (he is)
  • Hang out washing
  • Put next load in
  • Feel smug that the above is done while draining dregs of tea!
magentastardust · 27/08/2018 00:03

I can do things so much quicker now compared to pre kids now I know how precious time can be!
Dishwasher and washing machine on, surfaces cleaned, downstairs bathroom cleaned and a quick clean of floors!

Also make up , hair. jewellery and outfit on in half an hour is a skill that has now been whittled down to half an hour haha

MissesBloom · 27/08/2018 00:18

If I had 30 mins....

First things first I'd remake that freezing cold coffee I never got to drink this morning before the dreaded school run Grin you know for a bit of rocket fuel!

Then I'd whack a YouTube video on of someone doing their own speed clean and I'd get cracking. It always seems to motivate me when someone else is doing their routine.

For me I'd likely load the washing machine, check my phone make lunch for my little one and put it into the fridge for when she wakes in a foul mood, then I'd hoover with my dyson handheld vac and wipe the sides check my phone clean the dog bowls, prep for dinner check my phone and if I have time I'd give the bathroom the once over. and check my phone again Grin

seagulldown · 27/08/2018 02:21

Clean out the guinea pigs.
Empty dishwasher
And then a bit of mumsnet in secret...
