This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

clean the downstairs

cannotmakemymindup · 07/09/2018 13:08

I would likely be getting dinner prepared and start cooking. Then probably washing up whilst keeping an eye on dinner. Preferably with the radio on and good tunes playing!
Actually whatever task I can do in half hour I want music on to help me stay motivated and happy!

Mornings have become a hive of activity, on a good day get me and my 2 year old, dressed and ready, bag packed for playgroup, morning pots washed 10 minutes of chasing round the flat

TiggersAngel7774 · 07/09/2018 13:14

nice soak in bath

noynoyavery · 07/09/2018 13:18

Read..Read and Knit..watch tv and knit.
Gone are the days when I had to multi task 6 jobs in 1 with 3 toddlers underfoot.

Dessallara · 07/09/2018 13:55

Put another load of washing in, wash the dishes and have a shower!

Nikita90 · 07/09/2018 15:02

I could vacuum and tidy my living room! Also prep tea!

cathryn1 · 07/09/2018 17:28

I can tidy the house, wash up and give the bathrooms a quick going over or I can treat myself to a soak in the bath

plusonefail · 07/09/2018 20:34

I can get so much housework done in 30 minutes! Generally: the washing up, wipe surfaces, sweep floors, put dishes away and give the widows and mirrors a quick clean.

Emmamaryd · 07/09/2018 20:45

Not a lot! Maybe make a cup of tea or water the house plants.

CGORST · 07/09/2018 20:58

Aha! I am well practised at this. In 30 minutes I could put a wash on, put hair dye on my head and while I'm waiting for it to "cook" I mop the floors and clean the worktops. Then I go in the shower, wash the hair dye off and get dressed. When the 30 minutes are up, usually somebody presents themselves asking for food or a drink. They don't notice the mopped floors, clean worktops, the clean washing or the dyed hair.......

Enough time for me to get up, walk the dog and start breakfast.

NatureIs · 07/09/2018 23:23

Cook dinner and if it was a simple recipe I could order my groceries online at the same time!

DinosApple · 09/09/2018 07:34

Unload and reload the dishwasher. Bung a wash on and hang the previous out and do lunch boxes.

Sugarhouse · 10/09/2018 11:50

I can wash up quick hoover round and get some washing on and quickly make beds

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 10/09/2018 23:26

I normally have a mental list of jobs to complete if I’m at home, and if I get 30mins I’ll race through them, multi tasking as much as possible. I normally try to do the things where the involvement of young dc wouldn’t be great - so anything involving chemicals (bleaching toilets/cat litter tray), potential injuries (chopping veg with my Very Sharp Knife) or breakages (emptying the dishwasher). I could definitely do all those tasks in 30m!

tishist · 11/09/2018 13:51

A spare 30 minutes goes a lot faster for me than it seems to for most MNers here... I guess I'm not a supermum! I usually try to recharge by relaxing with me-time if I have a spare half hour, otherwise I'd burn out!

MammaSchwifty · 13/09/2018 14:38

I might check up on my trading strategy, do a brief market review, or log my trades for day/week in 30 mins.

Domestically, that could be time to clean bathroom, put some washing on and unload the dishwasher if I'm seriously under the cosh.

NerrSnerr · 14/09/2018 19:06

If doing housework I'd put clothes away. If time for me I'd have a bath.

sickmumma · 17/09/2018 21:19

In half an hour I could probably hoover my whole house but the kids moan they can't hear the tv when I do this 🙈😬

Congratulations to fishnships for winning the £300 voucher
