This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I'm very literal with my time. If someone is meeting me at say 2.30pm I will use the 30 minutes beforehand very precisely. In 30 minutes I can stick on a 28 minute wash, have a shower, make the bed, make a phonecall and get the washing in the dryer.

Any spare time in my house is spent catching up on things like housework; so in 30 mintues I can normally hoover the whole house, wash & sterilise bottles and make myself a cup of tea. Unfortunatley it doesn't ever seem to give me enough time to drink it.

Build a den. Not sure if I'd hide in it or the kids.

Making the most of a 30 minute clean for me would be:

  • Make the beds
  • Put clean clothes away and put another wash on
  • Bleach toilet, wipe round sink and bath with spray and wipes (I can do this while DS is in the bath if I'm multitasking)
  • Take rubbish out and put fresh bin bags in bins
  • Hoover
  • Wipe down kitchen cupboards and surfaces and bleach down sink

If I get a spare 30 minutes I usually put a load of washing on, tidy the toys away, sweep the floor and tidy the kitchen. It’s amazing how fast the time goes!

iut044 · 24/08/2018 12:21

Quickly clean the house .

MargoLovebutter · 24/08/2018 12:22

30 mins:

Prepare supper
Set the table
Empty dishwasher
Hang out laundry
Make & drink a cup of tea

I feel like a machine sometimes and wish I weren't quite as efficient!

AuFinch · 24/08/2018 12:23

mamof3boys · 24/08/2018 12:41

If I know I've got visitors I can clean my whole house from top to bottom in 30 minutes. Otherwise, I would spend 30 minutes just thinking about cleaning.....

ninamotylinski · 24/08/2018 13:00

I could definitely give the bathroom a much needed clean!

BL0SS0M · 24/08/2018 13:39

Cook the dinner, tidy or meditate!

badgermum · 24/08/2018 13:43

I can grab a shower, make the beds, put a wash load on, make 3 packed lunches, clear up from breakfast and tidy the house in 30 minutes . . Phew!

lizd31 · 24/08/2018 13:55

Unfortunately because of my ill health & disabilities it takes me a long time to do anything & I can't do a lot of things myself. My 30 minutes are spent filling up all my bird baths in my garden & filling up all the feeders & bowls for the wildlife as I have a proper little wildlife haven of a garden which I love

gd2011 · 24/08/2018 14:26

glenka · 24/08/2018 14:45

I can get the hoovering done and the dusting in this amount of time.

Visioncroquet · 24/08/2018 14:50

I can get a lot done in a undisturbed 30 minutes, I can get the laundry & dinner on the go :)

helly01pbo · 24/08/2018 14:56

30 minutes I could probably do a quick clean of the house. Which if I'm honest I should probably go do as the house needs it!

melanieb32 · 24/08/2018 15:10

In 30 minutes while my little one is engrossed in a programme I can usually empty and refill the dishwasher, wash whatever pots can't go in the dishwasher, stick a load of laundry in the washer and feed the dog oh and make a cup of coffee and be sat back down by the time the credits are rolling! Its a practiced routine and I've been doing it for just over a year lol x

sophiefx · 24/08/2018 15:23

Have a bath and do a lovely face mask!
