This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Vacuum the house and put the washing on. Byh the time 30 minutes is up the first load of washings ready to be hung out.

hdh747 · 24/08/2018 08:42

Probably about the average amount of time I spend cleaning a room. Or I could get my knitting out...

Spices001 · 24/08/2018 08:49

Washing on line & another load in, put away clean washing
Clean bathroom, hoover
Get lunches ready for the next day

I have gotten fantastic at multi tasking since having kids. When they are distracted for half an hour I usually put in my headphones and either phone my mum or best friend and have a good chat whilst also doing the dishes, the laundry, general tidying etc. Having the headphones in means I can chat whilst also getting on with the work that needs done.

Amazingly with my new cordless Dyson I can Hoover the entire house including furniture and ceiling corners and still have surplus time. I love it!!!!

sheilads105 · 24/08/2018 08:58

socat · 24/08/2018 09:01

Quick Vacuum
Wash-up Dishes
Load Washing Machine
Put Rubbish Out

happysouls · 24/08/2018 09:01

Kitchen transformed...washing up done and put away, surfaces wiped clean, clutter cleared. It takes so much longer with interruptions!

janeyf1 · 24/08/2018 09:21

Within 30 mins I do the hoovering, clean the floors, do light dusting, load the washing machine and clean work surfaces

Ganne1 · 24/08/2018 09:35

Sadly, all the big jobs take longer and have to be done when they're out or in bed. Thirty minutes is just enough to cook a nice meal, and that's that.

bevmichelle47 · 24/08/2018 09:39

Prepare the ingredients for a casserole & pop into the slow cooker, put the washing out & clean the kitchen.

LauraMMM · 24/08/2018 09:45

When they are sitting quietly for some down time I usually like to do some chores that need to be done when its quiet like phoning gas company, nursery or house repairs etc. But mostly i use the time to cook dinner so its not much of a down time for me! Other than on a Saturday the kids have half an hour to play nicely while mum and dad sit with a cup of tea!

007hel · 24/08/2018 09:51

If I had a spare 30 minutes I'd leave the chores and enjoy a nice cup of tea with maybe a Bakewell Tart

muppet1501 · 24/08/2018 10:06

in 30 mins i can clean kitchen, take washing upstairs, add another load in and hoover living/dining room. I could probably do more when im on a mission haha

footdust · 24/08/2018 10:10

Eat some lunch in oeace!!

sweir1 · 24/08/2018 10:37

The hoovering, polishing and ironing! BOOM

feefeegabor · 24/08/2018 10:48

I could definitely get my house partially cleaned if I had 30 minutes to myself, including that pesky kitchen floor which always needs a good scrub!

shellywkd · 24/08/2018 11:18

I like to batch cook quick meals like pasta in a spare 30 minutes to freeze and make life easier during the week

giddyypixie · 24/08/2018 11:22

Cook dinner, get some washing on, empty the tumble dryer!

tallandlong · 24/08/2018 11:32

about an hours worth of house work, no wonder i'm knackered!!!!

Narnianescape · 24/08/2018 11:39

I would try and get the ironing done.

Montydoo · 24/08/2018 11:46

In reality I really should get stuck into the housework - in practice, that special down time is so rare - I'd probably get a bar of chocolate (hidden) a large cup of tea - and just (try) to relax, one of my mums favourite quotes is 'Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shovelling the path before it stops snowing'.
