This activity is now closed

It’s fair to say that once you become a parent your efficiency skills reach their ultimate potential...gone are the days of spending spare minutes procrastinating about the million-and-one things you need to do. Now, when your DCs are watching a bit of telly you can complete the work that previously would have taken you five days of faffing. In half an hour you've changed the beds for the entire family, responded to your important emails, cooked a meal for four people (with dessert), and painted your toenails an exotic shade of blue. With that in mind, Sky Kids would love to know what you can do in the 30 minutes your children are having some down time.

Here’s what Sky Kids has to say: “The Sky Kids App is the perfect solution to keep your kids occupied during their (and your) well-earned downtime. …..With thousands of shows on demand including Paw Patrol, Ben 10 and Horrid Histories and interactive games for all ages like Art Studio, you can buy yourself some free time (enjoy that home pedicure!) safe in the knowledge that the available shows and games they're watching are age-appropriate and of course, entertaining.”

Do you have a to-do list ready and waiting for when you get a spare 30 mins so you can zap through it all? Perhaps when the children are watching Paw Patrol you manage to call and check in with family members whilst simultaneously preparing for a meeting you have the following day? Or maybe you sneak off to another room, finally able to treat yourself to a relaxing bath or watch your favourite TV show while the children watch theirs?

Whatever you’re able to get done, share it on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

When I have half an hour, I go for a nano nap.
If i have longer... it's a nana nap.

Edinburgh00 · 23/08/2018 12:40

Sorting all the broken toys while no one is paying attention x

llynnnn · 23/08/2018 12:52

In 30mins after the school run I often empty school bags/packed lunch boxes, read any school letters, put a load of washing in, tidy round the house (collecting glasses, straightening beds, tidy table of paperwork/left over belongings) make a cuppa and enjoy the last 10 minutes of the peaceful half an hour enjoying said cuppa (with a cheeky biscuit!)

SillyMoomin · 23/08/2018 14:54

squirt of jiff round the bath; unload, reload and turn on dishwasher
(5 mins)

scrub jiff, rinse bath, give sink a wipe down (5 mins)

Run over the toilets with spray on kitchen rolls, seats, handles, lids, outside (5 mins)

Plump up cushions on sofa, remove anything "obviously" messy and in the way, i.e.: newspapers, school bags, cats toys (!) and a quick "everyday" hoover, i.e., not using all the blinking tools to get into the skirting boards (10 mins)

Put kettle on and make myself a cup of tea (5 mins)

30 mins up!

daniel1996 · 23/08/2018 15:50

I would hoover the stairs - it's one of those jobs I mean to get around to - there's always someone going up or down - so out comes the hose, and up comes the dust !

Lose the will to live at least 60 times.

mitalmanda · 23/08/2018 18:01

Any spare time, I always feel bad just to spend some me time tbh, I can get the dry washing off the clothes horse and put away for the next load when it comes out the washer....having not much space and no tumble dryer/outdoor space means I need a quick turnaround with washing. And 30mins is also about time to put any clean bedding back on, including the dreaded double duvet cover!

lisalisa · 23/08/2018 21:07

In Half an hour wow ! What luxury ! Peel the potatoes , put a wash on and fold a clean wash , tidy the rooms and make the beds and quick sweep of the kitchen - voila !

MissEP · 23/08/2018 21:19

Working through the to-do list whilst watching TV!! currently shopping for my daughter's school PE kit, checking e-mails, selling on Gumtree, planning the weekend, buying photos online, completing an online warranty, shoe shopping for my son, checking my revision notes. All with the TV on in the background!

Mummymummums · 23/08/2018 21:54

I try to get through a mound of post and catch up writing dates on the calendar - however, from needing to look at parentmail on my phone I then tend to get distracted by Facebook or mumsnet Grin

PenguinsCantFly · 23/08/2018 21:56

I could empty the dishwasher, hang up the laundry, put in another load, run round with the hoover and get dinner in the oven...but I'd probably relax on the sofa with cup of tea!

malaguena · 23/08/2018 22:20

I have tons of admin to do, sorting out bills, renewing insurance, trying to find the best deals...It’s just really hard to concentrate with kids around. Oh, and a HOT cup of tea of course, as normal adults can have.

JS06 · 23/08/2018 23:51

In a spare 30 minutes I can mow the front and back lawns, weed a few rogue weeds, water the hanging baskets and dead-head them, get the garden waste bin through the garage for collection and sweep the front path. Phew!

PickAChew · 23/08/2018 23:54

In 30 minutes I can pop a lucky egg on and evolve 60 pokemon 😅

DarkDarkNight · 24/08/2018 01:09

I do the housework and chores when my son is in bed. 30 minutes during the day would be spent relaxing with a cuppa and my iPad.

TracyKNixon · 24/08/2018 06:41

A quick hoover around downstairs!

KAKADU2001 · 24/08/2018 06:52

Steam clean our four bedroom house from top to bottom.

barbsbarbs · 24/08/2018 06:58

four lunch boxes packed, four uniforms ironed, breakfast made, tea drunk, beds made, hair brushed, cats fed, homework organised, yes its amazing what can be done in half an hour

start100 · 24/08/2018 07:14

Oh it is so much a free time:)I would read a book and drink a coffee,my two favourite things:)

Emilygage1982 · 24/08/2018 07:18

Have a shower and a power nap 😀

Pastychef · 24/08/2018 07:24

I can soft boil 6 eggs, one after the other.

Clairecricket1 · 24/08/2018 07:27

Clean my children bedrooms

maryandbuzz1 · 24/08/2018 07:36

I carry a mental list in my head as snatched time is vital.
I can mow the lawn in 30 minutes and hoover upstairs.
Change all the beds....or sit and have a cuppa!

chloe282 · 24/08/2018 07:53

In 30 minutes, I could hoover and dust downstairs!

emmav6 · 24/08/2018 08:14

I really want a spare 30 minutes to clean my windows, never seem to get that spare bit of time!!!
