With laundry stacked high and always increasing, it can be tempting to break even the most basic of laundry rules in order to keep on top of the task. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the rules you implement (or ignore!) when you’re doing the laundry.

Here’s what Fairy has to say: “We want to know what’s important to you. Have you found a way to save time? A way to get the best stain removal? A way to keep clothes huggably soft? Or even just a way to not lose matching socks! We would love to hear your tricks of the trade.”

What’s your perspective on laundry rules? Either way, Fairy Non Bio wants to know. Do you obey temperature regulations or simply stick everything in at 40? Perhaps you’re the kind of person who avoids overfilling and never fails to air-dry fine fabrics. Or, maybe you fill the machine to the brim and adopt a one size fits all approach to drying that would make manufacturers weep. Whatever they may be, divulge your laundry indiscretions.

Share the rules that you follow and those you ignore on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Separate whites from coloured

GeorgeW78 · 24/04/2018 13:19

I tend to put most things in a 40 degree wash with Fairy non-bio. I do a separate wash for white towels and sheets. I have a bag for dedicates but they usually go in the standard wash. I have a large bag all the dog stuff goes in that's supposed to prevent the hair getting out, I use bio powder for those loads. The main rules I follow are whether items can be tumble dried or not.

lorrainej162 · 24/04/2018 13:42

my main rule is separating lights and darks

jacqroberts68 · 24/04/2018 14:01

Eventually the dry clean only rule gets broken due to the blooming cost, its extortionate. Everything else its a mixed wash and they take their chances.

noynoyavery · 24/04/2018 14:09

Never seperate anything wash everything at 40 , Never had a problem with clothes running, I do handwash some delicates but that's it..oh and I only Iron when really needed.

tishist · 24/04/2018 14:35

I do light and darks separately, but sometimes put dry clean items in a handwash setting if the item isn't precious.

Misst83 · 24/04/2018 14:47

I am definitely guilty of trying to fit as much into the washing machine as humanly possible, it seems to wash ok though.

FlickeringEmber · 24/04/2018 15:27

I don't handwash items which say handwash - I put them in a mesh bag and put them on a cool handwash in the machine instead.

cathryn1 · 24/04/2018 15:41

everything goes on a 30 wash, easier the better for me

Blondie1982 · 24/04/2018 19:52

Lights and darks ALWAYS get washed separately

Jocelynne123 · 24/04/2018 20:32

I wash my work clothes on a 60 to keep them clean. Most other things on a 40 and always try to do full loads. I'm really bad at ignoring the delicates and hand wash rule. The exception is jumpers, I always wash them separately and carefully. Xx

Emmamaryd · 24/04/2018 20:57

I separate whites and colours but, otherwise, don't follow many laundry rules

molly57 · 24/04/2018 21:17

I separate the colours, blacks and the whites.

mkt13 · 24/04/2018 22:29

I ignore the dry clean only ones .. most items can be hand washed safely and dried on the line

clarabella12 · 24/04/2018 22:40

we split whites, darks, lights and brights, wools that's all I tend to do.

Brandypie · 24/04/2018 22:59

I'm pretty terrible at following laundry rules. Separate whites & darks/similar colour wash is the only thing I tend to stick to. Oh and the 'quick wash' function is likely the most pressed button on the machine! Blush

phillw · 24/04/2018 23:24

Buy a wash bag for the dogs blankets, stops hairs sticking to everything else or clogging up the machine.

diddiebiddie · 24/04/2018 23:46

I wash the 'dry clean only' curtains etc on a cool delicate wash, using fairy non bio and eveything has always been ok so far

sugarplum11 · 24/04/2018 23:55

I always separate whites, dark and light colours. I normally wash colours at 40 degrees and whites at 60. I handwash delicate woollens and silks.

aggga8 · 25/04/2018 11:16

I always wash at 40 temp., white and colours i wash separetly.

bibolda · 25/04/2018 11:58

I try to buy a lot of white clothes, because it can be bleached. I can pre treat them and than I can wash them. Some of the food is just not coming out of the textiles with washing. I also use fabric conditioner to get out most of the chemicals from the clothes and leave a light fragrance.

Disaster? Nowadays my daughter puts wipes to the washing basket and during washing they do not stay in one piece and need to wash again.

kristinage · 26/04/2018 21:43

I do dark and whites separately, at 30 degree. If there is dirty white school's, football's socks, I am soaking it in about 40 degree water before the wash. Seemed to work. I am putting some cloths in separate washing bags not to get bubbled up.

Cosmia · 27/04/2018 16:06

Pillowcases for delicates/underwear etc have been a recent revelation. It means that things don't get snagged by other items, saves them from snagging etc and has generally saved me a fortune in tights etc!

Dan35 · 01/05/2018 21:05

I keep whites separate from everything else, but I wash 30C clothes at 40C to make sure they're clean Blush

TheGirlWhoLived · 03/05/2018 09:23

I throw everything in together - I know i'm a complete heathen but sometimes it really is just easier!

I've only ever had a couple of accidents, where DH has had some lovely shirts turn a light green or pinkish Grin

I do separate any whites that have started turning a bit grey and throw them in with some vanish - I always use Fairy non-bio as myself and my family has very sensitive skin, and it very rarely turns whites grey in the first place - it is the first thing i recommend to new mums!
