With laundry stacked high and always increasing, it can be tempting to break even the most basic of laundry rules in order to keep on top of the task. Fairy Non Bio would like to hear about the rules you implement (or ignore!) when you’re doing the laundry.

Here’s what Fairy has to say: “We want to know what’s important to you. Have you found a way to save time? A way to get the best stain removal? A way to keep clothes huggably soft? Or even just a way to not lose matching socks! We would love to hear your tricks of the trade.”

What’s your perspective on laundry rules? Either way, Fairy Non Bio wants to know. Do you obey temperature regulations or simply stick everything in at 40? Perhaps you’re the kind of person who avoids overfilling and never fails to air-dry fine fabrics. Or, maybe you fill the machine to the brim and adopt a one size fits all approach to drying that would make manufacturers weep. Whatever they may be, divulge your laundry indiscretions.

Share the rules that you follow and those you ignore on the thread below and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I always separate my washing into darks and lights. I don't like washing at below 40°, I feel like it hasn't been washed properly otherwise

lolamia91 · 22/04/2018 17:50

keep whites and darks seperate

KJ1986UK · 22/04/2018 18:53

I always ignore the hand wash only rule (I mean, who has time for that)? Th obvious rule I always follow is to make sure darks and lights/whites are separated.

HelenSw4les · 22/04/2018 19:01

I follow rules in terms of lights/darks but others I'm quite relaxed about; luckily I've never had a laundry disaster when I've turned anything pink. I usually wash most items on a 40 degree wash but always put bedding and towels in at 60.

maddie57 · 22/04/2018 19:31

I don't separate colours and whites
I hardly ever handwash anything unless it is expensive
Everything gets thrown in the tumble dryer.

PinkBuffalo · 22/04/2018 19:35

I have no rules! Everything goes in together whether light or dark. Everything gets done on the same 1hr wash.
Why make it complicated Smile

CGORST · 22/04/2018 19:53

If I buy clothes that say "dry clean only" they never get dry cleaned - if they can't go in the washer, then I can't afford to get them dry cleaned so I'll take a chance in the washer. In fact that goes for most thing - bung it in the washer and hope for the best! Most of the time it works out ok.....

frowner · 22/04/2018 20:29

Separate darks and lights and fill machine to the max!

boobybirdsworth · 22/04/2018 20:37

I don't stick to rules and wash all clothes together, the easier the better where I'm concerned. Towels always separately with no condititioner as it takes away their absobancy :)

ellie17 · 22/04/2018 21:31

i am careful separating colours i do at either 40 or 30 temp and all ok so presume my method is good

avery64 · 22/04/2018 21:32

With a busy teaching career ironing was a chore I really didn't have time for so over the years I only bought clothes in easy care fabrics and encouraged hubby to do the same. As a consequence the only thing I iron are curtains (unless I get them dry on a breezy day) Hubby and kids were taught how to iron if they wanted their shirts done but it has to be a rare occasion for them to be bothered!

sofieellis · 22/04/2018 22:01

I do separate washes for whites, darks and pastels.

I ignore dry clean only labels and hand wash them.

Parentingsortof · 22/04/2018 23:44

I pretty much wash everything in the washing machine Grin

whitbyranger · 23/04/2018 08:17

I must admit to washing dry clean only on the delicates cycle.

allibaby · 23/04/2018 09:41

I tend to ignore all advice about separating loads such as colours and Whites.
Nope for me it all gets bunged in at the same time and hoe for the best.
I also tend to wash delicates with everything else and unfortunately this led to my beautiful cashmere shrinking drastically in the wash. Oooops.

Sellins · 23/04/2018 10:26

Wash at 30

user1485629191 · 23/04/2018 11:08

everything gets put in, different fabrics, colours etc. Life is too short to sort!

Heidipiedy · 23/04/2018 12:47

I ALWAYS wash my whites separately - I have failed on a few previous occasions, never again!!

bibopalubop · 23/04/2018 15:08

I use a 'quick wash' for everything doesn't matter what material it is!
Always wash clothes and towels seperate and never put fabric softener in with towels as I've been told it stops them taking the moisture after a shower.
I'm too scared to try the hand wash cycle so my hand wash only clothes don't get worn very often.
We don't have a dryer but do have a drybuddy which is a live saver.
Other than that I think I'm pretty much your average clothes washer.

laurapotz · 23/04/2018 15:45

I am terribly lazy and don't separate my lights and darks - I just bung it all in together and hope for the best!

eandoauntie · 23/04/2018 18:37

I don't do dry cleaning (apart from 1 very expensive coat I own) if it shrinks then it's not meant for me, however, I have never shrunk anything in the 20 years I have been doing laundry.

PhilTB54 · 23/04/2018 19:34

Never use a tumble dryer. They wear out clothes.

Kangakate · 23/04/2018 20:15

I never separate my whites from the coloured clothes and I don't really pay attention to the hand wash bit either. I do my daughters clothes separately and our work uniforms and they all get done on 40

SIDNEY65 · 23/04/2018 20:37

I only every use two cycles on my washing machine for everything. It seems to work.

Inyosi · 23/04/2018 20:42

I mix dark and coloured clothes... that's about it...
