A good night's sleep is something many of us long to have, and would go to great lengths to get. That’s why Dreams would like to know your top tips and successful methods for getting a great night’s sleep, whether that’s perfecting the temperature in your bedroom or a never fail tactic to keep children in their rooms.

Here’s what Dreams has to say: “At Dreams, we understand the importance of a great night’s sleep and we know this can seem like an impossible challenge for new parents or parents to be. That’s why we’re delighted to be working with Mumsnet and its community of parents to help you get the sleep you deserve.”

Do you have a routine that helps you to relax before bed so that you drift off easily - a relaxing bath or a no-phones period? Perhaps you have arranged your bedding so that it’s comfortable for both you and your partner? Maybe ear plugs have revolutionised your sleep or you meditate before bed to stop you overthinking and worrying about things? Do you avoid certain things like coffee or eating late at night or maybe you have a particular hot drink or music to listen to that works a treat?

Whatever you do to help you improve your quality of sleep please share it below. Everyone who leaves a comment will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

A warm bed (blanket on in the winter) - no social media before bed (no harsh computer lights etc), and a good book!

StewPots · 15/02/2018 23:09

Dark room, oscillating fan, Sominex and I might just get 4 hours on a good night.

Rodent01 · 15/02/2018 23:42

I can't have this on demand, but there is nothing nicer than going to sleep listening to the rain falling on the velux roof windows as we are in the loft.

Milky decaf coffee before bed. Watching a good tv show in the dark before bed and being cosy and a memory foam mattress for me. For my son a really heavy duvet works wonders compared to thinner layers.

carriewintermeadow · 16/02/2018 00:30

My bedroom has to be pitch black and cold, I have the window open all day to air it. I like a feather and down pillow that is nice and soft and 100% cotton bed linen. I try not to use my phone just before cooing to bed and to read a book instead.

No screens for an hour before bed

libra101 · 16/02/2018 05:54

We changed our mattress last year, and as its more comfortable, we're getting betting quality of sleep.

Also our dog Barney is now banned from the bedroom as he was always wriggling round and disturbing our sleep.
I always leave my phone and ipad downstairs, so they don't cause distractions. We generally keep the bedroom warm and cosy, making a peaceful haven and sleep comes naturally.

Clean sheets, a dark room and a hot milky drink seems to work for me. If I have time I have a nice hot bath too

Sleepysausage · 16/02/2018 08:26

Fresh bedding always helps me to sleep better. Having a shower, clean teeth and face help me to sleep well. I also Iove the smell of this works Pillow Spray. It's calming and comforting.

Tefiti2 · 16/02/2018 08:55

Definitely a cool room helps me to fall asleep better - even in the winter! No screen time for 30 mins before falling asleep also helps with a better sleep too, I believe.

FrozenMargarita17 · 16/02/2018 09:17

I tend to focus on my breathing and I usually drift off after that! I need a firm mattress as well, with the room pitch black.

Once bought a bed from dreams.... NIGHTMARE more like!

Anyone thinking of using them check reviews online first. ( not just on dreams website) Wish we had. Would have saved a lot of hassle. Worst costumer service I have ever encountered.

wheresmyliveship · 16/02/2018 10:04

A few drops of lavender oil on the pillow and DH and I are out like lights...and for the night straight through! Honestly it’s like magic

dilydaly · 16/02/2018 10:20

Ear plugs and a sleep mask so it's as quiet and dark as possible. Getting into a made bed also helps me, probably psychological but if it works!
A bath really relaxes me before bed too :)

Teabagtits · 16/02/2018 10:40

Stay single and don’t have children or pets.

moneypenny66 · 16/02/2018 11:20

I definitely have to avoid caffeine after lunchtime, and I find a fan invaluable in the summer. As well as keeping me cool it also keeps the noises out!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 16/02/2018 15:45

My dd (autism, terrible at sleeping) likes to listen to Christmas songs at bedtime to help her feel safe and calm. Grin

RhubarbAndCustards · 16/02/2018 16:28

Electric blanket on to warm the bed, and window open. I need fresh air! I like a dark room to go to sleep but like to wake to light, so have a sunrise clock. I struggle to get to sleep if DH has television on, and much prefer it to be quiet.

EsmeeMerlin · 16/02/2018 16:39

I find great quality pillows are a must, also I like a eye mask.

Callico · 16/02/2018 20:25

spend the absolute most you can afford on a good quality mattress. If your mattress is uncomfortable you won’t feel like you’ve had a good sleep.

Debsie123 · 16/02/2018 22:15

I ensure the room is not too hot/cold, that I have clean sheets and that there is no technology an hour before I sleep.

Carriecakes80 · 17/02/2018 00:26

I used to have awful trouble sleeping, then read somewhere that your body has to be the perfect cool temperature to be able to settle for sleep, so now, if I don't have time for a bath (no shower sadly lol) then I will spray myself down with cold rose water (very cheap from your chemist!) I keep it in the fridge, and it really helps!
But my main tip, is to keep your room at a warm temperature, and sleep in the nude! lol

FussyFissick · 17/02/2018 06:01

Big bed, separate single quilts for me and husband. I don't even care it's weird, it's great. Failing that, separate rooms Grin

Chiddles09 · 17/02/2018 06:54

Dark room, as big a bed as will fit in the room, soft mattress so my hips don’t hurt in the morning, I like to read for a while before I sleep, so comfortable pillows to sit up for a while. A husband who doesn’t snore would be ideal, but I can’t have everything!

We also fit a small single bed in our room for any children that are having trouble sleeping - being in the same room as us seems to work like magic for them and means I get more sleep!

Didiusfalco · 17/02/2018 07:54

Not reading from an electrical device before bed I find helps.

It’s got to be dark and I think white noise can help so a fan running.

The right temperature is important too, it can be just as hard to sleep in a room that is too warm as one that is too cold.
