A good night's sleep is something many of us long to have, and would go to great lengths to get. That’s why Dreams would like to know your top tips and successful methods for getting a great night’s sleep, whether that’s perfecting the temperature in your bedroom or a never fail tactic to keep children in their rooms.

Here’s what Dreams has to say: “At Dreams, we understand the importance of a great night’s sleep and we know this can seem like an impossible challenge for new parents or parents to be. That’s why we’re delighted to be working with Mumsnet and its community of parents to help you get the sleep you deserve.”

Do you have a routine that helps you to relax before bed so that you drift off easily - a relaxing bath or a no-phones period? Perhaps you have arranged your bedding so that it’s comfortable for both you and your partner? Maybe ear plugs have revolutionised your sleep or you meditate before bed to stop you overthinking and worrying about things? Do you avoid certain things like coffee or eating late at night or maybe you have a particular hot drink or music to listen to that works a treat?

Whatever you do to help you improve your quality of sleep please share it below. Everyone who leaves a comment will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I just don't have a routine. I've practically given up on trying to get anything resembling a good night's sleep. I do, however, use essential oils in various combinations to try to distress and calm and find these very useful.

make sure there are no lights around you ie from an alarm clock etc. also, do not go on any phone gadgets (as the LED lights affect sleep) for at least an hour before your sleep

Being a sleep extremist used to be difficult. I'd either have insomnia and not sleep for weeks at a time, or I'd be a sleep walker getting up to all sorts.

I discovered no caffeine or tea in the evenings works wonders. Couple that with a few deep breathing techniques in a pitch black room and I now sleep like a baby.

I love my memory foam topped mattress but it has now seen better days!

I bought myself a super comfy bamboo pillow which lets me have a really good sleep.

I listen to ASMR videos on Youtube. They help me to drop off

Make sure the room is cool enough, and I'm comfortable in what I'm wearing. Nothing stops me sleeping like PJ bottoms that don't fit exactly right.

Ashhead24 · 15/02/2018 16:11

I don't have any problems going to sleep. My partner struggles and needs to avoid caffeine and high octane gaming before bed, and finds my old maternity pillow really helps him.

A nice long hot bubble bath normally helps then 20 minutes of meditation and it's guaranteed to help you sleep like a baby

Gazelda · 15/02/2018 18:24

A dark room and a cool bed. I hate fussy nightclothes, so make sure I'm in something comfortable. And my hair up in a top not so it doesn't suffocate me during the night.

AVT5 · 15/02/2018 18:41

Dark room but hall light on. No phone!

maryandbuzz1 · 15/02/2018 19:08

I follow the same bedtime routine each evening which seems to work for me.
I always have a hot drink around 9 o’clock and stay up until about 10 o’clock. I always have a bath and get into bed making sure the window is open so the surrounding air is cool. I read until I am really tired and then fall asleep. If I wake up I usually have a sip of water and then try to think of my day in detail which usually helps me get back off again. I try not to look at the clock at any point.

runningwithbob · 15/02/2018 19:09

The best recipe for a good night’s sleep for me is having a bath then putting on a pair of clean pj’s and getting into a clean (preferably line dried) bed! I tend to get into bed an hour before I want to go to sleep and watch TV or mooch about on the internet whilst drinking some chamomile tea, then it’s lights out and off to the land of nod!

Pob13 · 15/02/2018 19:15

Hypnosis cd to get me in a deep sleep.

WellThatsATurnipForTheBooks · 15/02/2018 19:46

Reading in bed before going to sleep. It just helps quieten your mind down from day to day mundane thoughts and worries and helps me relax.

Also a coolish room

Thecandyshop · 15/02/2018 19:47

Put mobile phone in another room so the buzz of messages does not disturb your sleep (it works)

Thecandyshop · 15/02/2018 19:50

Buy a small soft foam support pillow a brand like 'Leggett & Pratt.'
Quality light foam with rows of small holes for air flow. It's really comfortable you can wash it easily comes with a removable zip cover.

Patch19 · 15/02/2018 20:03

I like a dark room luckily we live in quiet area , cue an cotton sheets are a must I like to read a book for a while then snuggle down I only like a light duvet all year .

PoopyGirl · 15/02/2018 20:21

I usually drop off to sleep really quickly. If I am having a bad night I will put Radio 4 on 15 Mins sleep - I listen intently to the discussions but always fall asleep before the radio automatically goes off. If that doesn’t work, I bring my cat into the bed between me and my husband. Her soft purring and lovely scent always sends me to sleep.

Butterfly1975 · 15/02/2018 21:03

No caffeine after 6pm helps with my sleep - Pukka night time tea is my brew of choice and very calming. I always read for at least half an hour before bed. I'm trying to go screen free in the evening but not breaking the habit so far!

I'd sleep far better in my own room as DH snores - loudly! As this isn't an option a good pair of earplugs does help.

Good pillows are also really important - it's taken me ages to find the right one!

angell74 · 15/02/2018 21:17

I write my to do list for the following day before I go to bed so that I can clear my mind and sleep more easily.

Babycarmen · 15/02/2018 21:20

A dark room, as quiet as possible, and the room has to be cool. I’ve had a lot of sleeping problems in the past and those 3 things definitely help. Also opening the window for an hour before I go to bed so the air is fresh.

Hopezibah · 15/02/2018 21:24

camomile tea works wonders for me! Along with lavender pillow spray. A comfy clean bed is a must of course too.

WilmaJean · 15/02/2018 21:29

Cool room, firm mattress, lots of pillows and a warm duvet with cotton sheets. Completely dark room but I do love an audiobook to send me off to sleep!

Anj123 · 15/02/2018 21:40

Warm bath and a good book!

WheresTheCoffee · 15/02/2018 22:25

Sleep headphones have changed my life! Flat earphones sewn into a headband..I can finally sleep despite DH's snoring!
