A good night's sleep is something many of us long to have, and would go to great lengths to get. That’s why Dreams would like to know your top tips and successful methods for getting a great night’s sleep, whether that’s perfecting the temperature in your bedroom or a never fail tactic to keep children in their rooms.

Do you have a routine that helps you to relax before bed so that you drift off easily - a relaxing bath or a no-phones period? Perhaps you have arranged your bedding so that it’s comfortable for both you and your partner? Maybe ear plugs have revolutionised your sleep or you meditate before bed to stop you overthinking and worrying about things? Do you avoid certain things like coffee or eating late at night or maybe you have a particular hot drink or music to listen to that works a treat?

We all try to stick to the same routine and bedtimes.
The children and I all like to read before bed, it helps us unwind.
Fresh sheets are always a winner.

Room is dark & warm & quiet

Cosy pj's & pillow & duvet

No caffeine after about 6pm

I prefer black out curtains to make it dark, and I always sleep better if i have done a yoga class in the evening - that's not a very practical idea though!

Clean, good quality bed linen always makes me sleep better! And no devices (iPad or phones) just before bed. And no caffeine after lunch time!

No screens an hour before bed and I switch my phone to 'Do Not Disturb' mode at 10pm so I don't hear alerts going off. Ear plugs and an eye-mask every night. If DH is snoring, I go straight to the spare room, rather than lying there feeling cross :-)

DH and I always go to bed together, and chat for a bit before settling down. We often listen to a podcast (on a 10 minute timer) if one of us has had a stressful day. I am almost always asleep by the time it turns off.

I also find that exercising at night really helps take my mind off everyday stresses, and I therefore find ‘switching off’ before bed much easier.

DS has a fairly rigid, consistent routine, and he sleeps beautifully.

Total darkness, cold room with a thin duvet and a heavy blanket so I can cool down easily. DH on child fielding duty!

My room must be completely dark. I have herbal tea before bed and leave my phone downstairs - sorry MN. I like to read to switch my brain off. Fresh bedding and pyjamas always helps me to feel cosy and ready for a good nights sleep ... often my babies have other ideas though!

I have Blackout curtains. When I first get into bed I generally need my fabulous electric heat pad but only until I feel snuggly. The most important sleep aids are a decent pillow and a spare room for my DH to go to if either of us is disturbing the other.

No heating in the room, but a cosy duvet and blanket. Definitely no electric blanket or socks! I love clean sheets and jammies but I'm too lazy to change the sheets as often as I would like

Clean, comfortable bedding. A dark room. Fan on for white noise.

I have three babies under 6 and i found that they all started sleeping better when they stopped breast feeding and went into their own rooms (they were all over 1 before this happened as it's hard to let go of the tiny baby stage!)
Now they are bathed and have stories read to them and i try not to give them anything too sweet close to bed time,

Get snuggled up nice and warm under the covers with plumped up lavender sprayed pillows - then... stick one leg out on top of the covers and voila - perfect sleep!!

I have really awful insomnia but things I've found that help intermittently are: A really cool room, lavender pillow spray, listening to audiobooks or r4 set on a sleep timer, having a epsom salt bath before bed. Mostly trying not to stress about not sleeping and just trying to snuggle up under nice clean sheets...zzz ;)

A dark warm room.
The room has to be clean & tidy & my bed has to have been made up I can't sleep comfortably in a bed that is messy.

I don't drink more than 2 cups of tea in a day, and none after 6 o'clock (well, I might allow myself one when I get home from work, if I haven't had any all that day) otherwise there's not a hope in hell of me getting to sleep at a decent time, or having a decent night's sleep. I am ridiculously sensitive to caffeine.

I've made my bed my sanctuary. Mattress topper and nice pillows. I also have to have darkness (we have recently installed electric radiators that have a blue light on them that keep me awake) and so I have to shield the light away to stop it from waking me up. I also can't have it too warm. I plan to invest in some nice cotton sheets very soon and thinking of a natural light alarm clock. Most of all I've found that a child who doesn't come into your bed is a must 😂

For me the difference came with actually removing all electronic devices from the bedroom. I teach children about this with my programme so I thought I knew it all(!) but I didn't ....until I did this one thing!

I swear by lavender oil and use it for both myself and the children to help settle them. Just a few drops on a tissue under the pillow usually works. The White Company White Lavender spray is also amazing.

I avoid all caffeine after lunchtime, drink water of juice in the afternoon. I am usually exhausted when I go to bed, but my mind is always thinking of things I have to do or have not yet done, so took up Yoga and breathing exercises whilst in bed and find that really helps with falling into a deep sleep. A drop of lavender oil on my pillow helps too.

I always use lavender scented fabric conditioner when washing my bedding and spray my pillows with mist for a restful night,the room must be cold and the sheets cotton.
I have always made sure I sleep furthest away from the bedroom door so and little visitors during the night go to hubby first.
Invest in the best quality bed you can afford as you spend up to 1/3rd of your life in it.(hopefully)

Wear yourself out. The DC are away for 2 days, because I'm not running around after them, I hardly slept last night. I'm going for a jog round the park later.
