Guaranteed clean plates include Fajitas, roast dinners, burgers, fish finger sandwiches and pizzas. I make my pizzas from scratch using bread maker dough, this makes it easy for me to do half and half toppings to suit. I also make my burgers and fish fingers from scratch - burgers because it's cheaper, fish fingers because they taste good fresh! For fajita night I discovered that making my own spice mix is a good cost cutter, I just use a mix of spices and some tomato puree it works well and can be adapted for heat!

Hope that helps!!

One of our favourites is a veggy indian fusion of shepherds pie. Adding curry paste to the quorn when its fried with onions makes a delicious twist.

quizqueen · 12/01/2018 19:42

spaghetti bolognese with loads of vegetables in, cottage pie, lasagne, fish and chips and peas (or sweet potato chips), sausage and mash and beans, stir fry with loads of vegetables again, pasta bake ditto, salads, jacket potato and cheese, everything you can do with eggs, home made soup- mostly veggie, toasted sandwiches ( banana and sultana is a favourite), pizza with my own veggie toppings added, chicken and leek pie.

Meatballs and sausages (Not together) work best in our house

Enigma222 · 12/01/2018 22:23

My kids love macaroni cheese and would eat that every day if they had a choice!

We made Lobby tonight, thanks to a PP. I used minced beef, half a swede, a couple of sweet potatoes, ordinary potatoes, a leek and a little celery. Browned it off in the pressure cooker, added a splash of water, paprika, garlic, chilli, ketchup, mustard and horseradish. Brought it up to steam for about 20 mins.

Lovely.

Sausage caserole is the favourite here. Chop up the sausages and fry off the onions. Add in whatever veg is around (usually carrots, sweet potato, parsnip etc). Add in a tin of baked beans, tin of tomatoes and a dash of Worcestershire sauce and cook for a while. Serve with rice/jackets or a loaf of tiger bread if I go to Lidl on my way home from work!

Pork, leek and pea risotto is one of our family favourites. Risotto rice, pork medallions (chopped up small), finely chopped onions, a chicken stock melt/cube, chopped leeks and frozen peas. I use rice milk as the liquid which makes it sweet and rich, and add a big spoonful of full fat cream cheese right at the end.

Panhaggerty.

Layer of sliced potatoes, layer of whatever root veggies are lying about, layer of sliced corned beef, optional layer of a tin if baked beans (you can squirt some ketchup or brown sauce or splash some lea and Perrin's at this point as well), top with another layer of sliced potatoes, then pour gravy over and oven bake till crispy on top.

I part cook the potatoes and veg first.

It sounds AWFUL but it has always been a family staple through my whole life, and it's a cheap and easy way to feed the kids.

Sausage pesto pasta. Tin of red pesto, mattesons type smoked sausage (the chilli one is best) wholemeal pasta. Sometimes a dollop of creme fraiche on top. Been making this since i was a student!

LuckyLuckyWoman · 13/01/2018 19:15

prawn or chicken Singapore noodles. Quick, easy and loved by all

chandlersfraud · 13/01/2018 23:24

For my fuss pot girls - we have only a small number of things that go down well with everyone. 2 favourites are:
Chicken stir fry with rice or noodles
(Chicken breast fried off with onion, red pepper sometimes carrot/mushroom/broccoli/fresh ginger then soy sauce, honey and bit of chicken stock) I think it's the bit of sweetness that goes down well

And,

Chicken and mushroom in a chicken stock/cream or creme fraiche reduced sauce with potatoes or peas.

Littlelambpeep · 13/01/2018 23:31

Pesto pasta is probably the favourite here.. We have it once a week.
Or salmon and baby potatoes (sprinkle cajun or BBQ spice on the salmon and serve with brocolli or salad)
Homemade burgers
Roast chicken is another huge favourite

wannabestressfree · 14/01/2018 09:16

Wow loads I have three teenagers with differing palates and likes and they all eat big so do...,
Pesto pasta and sausages (baked)
Pizza
Tray bake with the meat from the roast and assorted veg... add blitzed tomatoes and cheese top.
Chilli without the spice.
Meat balls and rice
Fish, pasta and spinach
Omelettes with different meats.
Left over little potatoes, oil and chorizo (cheese or no cheese)
I could go on :)

sealight123 · 14/01/2018 12:41

Spaghetti Bolognase (with chorizo)
Fajitas
Toad in the hole
Chicken Salad pittas
Homemade pizza :)

My daughter seems to eat everything plain and these are meals we can always get her to eat without fail

Noregrets25 · 14/01/2018 15:20

Chilli con carne, we make it quite chunky with loads of peppers and courgette serve with rice, sour cream and mixed salad- then use the leftovers to make burritos the next day!

Corned beef hash
Chicken quesadillas
Cheats Nachos (layereplain salted tortilla chips, with a packet of marinaded precooked chicken chopped up, grated cheese, and salsa. Keep layering till you run out of everything. Then top with MORE cheese and bake for 10mins. Serve with sour cream and guacamole)

LadySpratt · 14/01/2018 17:26

Two adults (full time (and then some) work), one 8 year old child that doesn’t like fish or eggs.

Favourites:

  1. Salmon stir fry (yes, I know). Marinate salmon with soy sauce, salad onion, fresh garlic and ginger, honey and a drop of sesame seed oil and a little chilli. Bake in oven. Serve with stir fried veg (sesame seed oil, garlic, ginger, five spice, oyster sauce, pre-prepped veg, touch of soy sauce), and orzo pasta or brown rice.
  1. Home made chicken korma from scratch (thanks Madhur Jaffrey). Do this at the weekend and it seems to last for ages!
  1. Nigella’s chicken cosima. I purée the chickpeas for DS as he doesn’t like them, and add them to his sauce which thickens it nicely.
  1. Home made minestrone.
  1. Sausage rice. (Late father’s nearly secret recipe, I’m afraid).
  1. Jamie’s shepherd’s pie from family superfood book. Fabulous.
Juanbablo · 14/01/2018 18:32

One of our absolute favourites is creamy salmon pasta. I cook 3 small salmon fillets or two large. Usually just microwave them! Add them to cooked pasta, peas and broccoli, mix in pesto and creme fraiche. It's always a winner!

billybear · 14/01/2018 19:17

love a roast chicken usually then chicken with jacket spud next day chicken sandwiches, dog usually helps with chicken as well.love piece of gammon with pineapple fried egg and chips. spag bol is another fav.bangers and mash we eat healthy but not a lot of spicy food ,think of things i can do quickly and cheaply, and a turkey joint in a foil tray from local supermarket always goes down well then sandwiches with remainder.i love jacket potatoes so usually have them at least once a week quick healthy and filling.

Silvereyes · 14/01/2018 19:35

Easy carbonara.
Pasta, natural yog Parma ham (or similar that you have in fridge) frozen peas or green beans chopped up. Salt, pepper, parmazan, sooo tasty and super quick and easy 🍴

user1508013898 · 14/01/2018 19:52

Lentil bolognase as we are vegetarian:
Onions, garlic sweet potato, carrot and any other veggies like brocolli, courgette etc chopped up really small. Fry in a large saucepan for 5 mins, ad 200gms of lentils, add tablespoon of tomato paste, splash of balsamic vinegar, tin of chopped tomatoes and 600 ml of veg stock l. Cook for 20-30 mins until everything soft or it can all go in slow cooker. Serve with spaghetti or pasta. Super yummy and super healthy

Tidypidy · 14/01/2018 19:53

Chicken and chorizo ‘risotto’
Brown diced chicken, add chorizo and fry until oil released, add chopped onion, celery and carrot. Fry until soft then add sliced garlic. Meanwhile boil rice with a stock cube. When rice cooked add to meat and veg with some of its water, season and mix well. Serve with Parmesan. Variations: use turkey instead of chicken, throw in shredded cabbage or sprouts as well.

Takes about 30 minutes and is always demolished!
