Over the Christmas holiday many of us like to get out of the house and spend time with the family by going to the cinema. Whether it’s because you’re fed up of being indoors or desperately trying to entertain children, ODEON would like to find out what you do when you venture out of the house at Christmas to see a movie.

Here’s what ODEON has to say: “With so many family films out and many families planning their trip to the cinema to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, ODEON wanted to know what Mumsnetters' best memories were of family visits to the cinema over the holidays.

Maybe you got taken to see a particularly Christmassy movie or a big blockbuster you'd been waiting ages to see. Or maybe you've got a great story to tell about visits with your the kids. Share your comments and stories below and you could win a £300 voucher or one of our extra special porg soft toys for the kids.”

So whether you are a regular Christmas cinema goer or have gone on occasion to escape home after over the festive season, share your Christmas cinema memories below.

Everyone who comments on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list) as well as one of 50 soft porg toys Smile.

Thanks and good luck!

Boxing Day is always cinema day for us. We go to the sales with the intention of finding a bargain, realise it's all a load of tat and go the cinema instead! This year it was Paddington Bear!

I remember being taken to the cinema over the Christmas school holidays to see a Disney film and asking afterwards if we can see it again

meepmoop79 · 27/12/2017 10:18

I don't recall going to the cinema over Xmas when i was a child, but it is something that we try to do with our children.
I remember watching Paddington with the children over Xmas a couple of years ago, and they really enjoyed it.
Thinking of taking them to see the new one in the next couple of days.

I remember my Dad taking me to see Pinocchio in the cinema at Christmas about 36 years ago
I don’t see him now but have never forgotten that

I used to love going and watching a screening of a festive show in London like the nutcracker ballet

Taking my eldest to the cinema for a £1 special to see a children's spy film (can't remember the title) - he loved everything to do with spys so watched the entire film smiling and I watched him, in turn smiling.

My husband and i have a tradition of going to the cinema on Christmas eve to watch a nice gooey film we love it as it gets us in the feel good mood. We haven't been for a few years due to having our first baby but now she's three we went again this year to watch Paddington 2 and it was magical seeing my LG's face watching the big screen.

I remember going to the cinema as a very young child and seeing Bedknobs and Broomsticks and I was transfixed! I have watched it every year since even though I am an adult with 2 children, who have also loved the movie too.

I remember being very small and my granny taking me to our local cinema to see Disney's snow White. It was a real old fashioned independent cinema. A small ticket booth, only 2 screens. Red velvet furnishings and steep steps. We got popcorn and chocolate raisins.

There was even an interval half way through the film with red velvet curtains closing and ladies appearing, as if by magic, from no where with trays of icecream. I got strawberry. She got vanilla.

It's one of my happiest childhood memories :)

Cailin7 · 27/12/2017 12:07

we do not usually go to the pictures at christmas preferring live theatre or panto. However we did go last week to see star wars, it was really good.

iut044 · 27/12/2017 12:16

Going to watch home alone as a young child was great .

shellywkd · 27/12/2017 13:06

My daughters school has a cinema. So we walked up in the cold and watched Cars 3 with her friends and a couple of mums. We had popcorn and chocolate and it was a lot of fun.

My favourite cinema experience is when I go saw The Dark knight it was my first experience of batman the dramatic performance of the joker with slight comic relief had me in awe. On the edge of my seat everyone gasping in unison the sound vibrating through the cinema shocking and spectacular at the same time. Now I have a child my fav experience is getting to relive my childhood going to see all the cartoons and watch joy fill dc face getting pick n mix pop corn and Nachos the perfect treats.

Third year in a row we've been to the cinema on Christmas Eve - the first year was Snoopy, the last two have been Star Wars. It's such a good way to escape from the Christmas chaos and relax for a few hours.

gd2011 · 27/12/2017 13:30

addverbaan · 27/12/2017 13:46

Taking my nephew to see the new Star Wars film was magical. He watched in awe! And it really took me back to when I was little and saw the first star wars film - a memory I'll never forget :)

xcxcsophiexcxc · 27/12/2017 13:47

merlymerly · 27/12/2017 14:42

A family memory is going to see Home Alone at the cinema with the family and almost losing one of the children when we left!

Holliewantstobehot · 27/12/2017 14:49

I used to take the children to our local small cinema on Christmas eve. They used to show a Christmas film specially. They would put a snow machine on the flat roof above the door so when you came out it would be snowing. It was such a lovely community event. I don't know if they still do it but the children are a bit old for it now.

socat · 27/12/2017 15:00

I went to see Paddington 2 the other day,

Such a lovely sweet film with amazing touches..... One of the best films of 2017!

I needed a paper tissue to wipe away tears of joy a few times!
