Over the Christmas holiday many of us like to get out of the house and spend time with the family by going to the cinema. Whether it’s because you’re fed up of being indoors or desperately trying to entertain children, ODEON would like to find out what you do when you venture out of the house at Christmas to see a movie.

Here’s what ODEON has to say: “With so many family films out and many families planning their trip to the cinema to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, ODEON wanted to know what Mumsnetters' best memories were of family visits to the cinema over the holidays.

Maybe you got taken to see a particularly Christmassy movie or a big blockbuster you'd been waiting ages to see. Or maybe you've got a great story to tell about visits with your the kids. Share your comments and stories below and you could win a £300 voucher or one of our extra special porg soft toys for the kids.”

So whether you are a regular Christmas cinema goer or have gone on occasion to escape home after over the festive season, share your Christmas cinema memories below.

Everyone who comments on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list) as well as one of 50 soft porg toys Smile.

Thanks and good luck!

I remember queuing round the block to see Snow White which I always think is odd as it can't have been new out as the film is older than me. I also remember going to see Santa Claus the movie with my mum when she won tickets. I took my nan to see Little Women as it was one of my childhood favourite books and before I left for university I went to see Four Weddings and a Funeral.

I'm afraid we've never been to the cinema during the Christmas Holidays.

wjanice121 · 27/12/2017 16:10

When I was 5 my local cinema showed 'Never Ending Story' over Christmas and I loved it so much my grandad had to take me 4 times to see it.

BlueTablecloth · 27/12/2017 17:03

I remember my little brother complaining that he couldn't see anything, we moved seats, he still couldn't see anything, moved again, nope, all he could see was 'a big pair of curtains' :-D

Taking our so to the cinema for the first time to see Paddington bear

juju3 · 27/12/2017 18:35

Watching Bambi as a kid and crying (of course)

Lisapaige24 · 27/12/2017 18:47

We always go to the cinema either Christmas Eve or Boxing Day since I was a child and I have kept that tradition with my own kids I think my favourite memory was seeing Rocky when I was six I still love those movies to this day , it’s nice to keep traditions in the family

I took my son to see first Paddington movie around Christmas time. It was his first visit to cinema and didn't go too well, he found whole thing frightening the film, the dark and loud sound and we left after 20 mins as it was too much for him. Since then he has got use to the cinema and enjoys it, hope to see a movie this year maybe Ferdinand.

Going to see Home alone with my sisters and not my parents! magical and faintly naughty.

sbruin1122 · 27/12/2017 19:45

Star wars was an amazing day out! everyone loved it!

WildRosesGrow · 27/12/2017 19:49

I remember my Auntie taking us to see Snow White at the cinema when we were little, happy memories.

RACHELSMITH45 · 27/12/2017 20:01

We enjoyed watching the star at the cinema this Christmas. It was a lovely Christmas themed film and really got us all into the festive mood!

Winningbeauty · 27/12/2017 20:05

My parents would always take us for a cinema treat around Christmas, full of popcorn and ice cream. Being a mum now I realised that taking 4 kids of the cinema was no easy feat, my parents were amazing. My parents would sit in the middle of two of us and we would all cuddle in. I remember watching Jurassic park, so scary!

littleme96 · 27/12/2017 20:16

I remember being taken to watch Home Alone at the cinema when I was little. It was the first film I had seen at the cinema and it was so exciting! Big squishy seats and popcorn - in different flavours!

I still get excited when I listen to the opening bars of the film score. Magical!

emmmaaa26 · 27/12/2017 20:26

I love going to the cinema around Christmas, especially if theres a really festive movie playing, it gets you in the mood.

LeeR1985 · 27/12/2017 20:31

Me and my daughter go to see Home Alone every year as my local cinema plays it with all proceeds going to refurb works or local charities. We have a great time :)

JoGibbons · 27/12/2017 20:34

My husband has taken my son to the cinema just before Christmas every year that Star Wars has released a new film. This year we thought we would go as a family, so we went on Christmas Eve, thought that maybe we could start a new tradition. It was a lovely change from last minute shopping and the worries of Christmas, and the new Star Wars film was pretty good too!

purplepandas · 27/12/2017 20:39

Elf is the Christmas favourite here. I really want to see Paddington 2 with the children this Christmas. I have very clear memories of seeing Scrooged on Christmas Eve with my parents as a child.

lotte321 · 27/12/2017 20:40

My nan gives us enough money for 4 tickets to the cinema every Christmas. Well, she doesn't give us 'quite' enough, she's not got the hang of inflation!

Anyway, off we trot to whatever takes our fancy, Christmassy or otherwise. This year it was Star Wars. A tradition we now really look forward to. Thanks nan!

mave · 27/12/2017 20:42

My parents taking my brother and I to see E.T. it was amazing but sad at the same time!

PhuntSox · 27/12/2017 20:43

My fondest memories are of driving home after the film feeling really happy!

Minnibix · 27/12/2017 20:45

I had not been to the cinema for quite a few years, then we went to see Jurassic Park, we were both stunned with how real everything looked and the sound effects, We had a brilliant time, and we tend to go regularly now

maisiesnan · 27/12/2017 20:57

Christmas 1968 we were living in Berlin as my dad was in HM Forces, all the children with dad's in the forces were invited to the cinema to see Peter Pan, It was magical and a lovely memory that I treasure

mitalmanda · 27/12/2017 21:06

Since splitting from my daughter's Dad I find it hard to find budget days out over the festive period as it's cold and more indoors activities. But I do save supermarket rewards for cheaper cinema tickets, which is really handy over Christmas, or I ask for vouchers as a gift. I also work in retail so time is precious around the peak trading days. We've been to the cinema this Christmas and plan to see Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle next week - taking our own popcorn and keeping cosy :-)

hanarees · 27/12/2017 21:07

I remember going to see Elf on Christmas eve. I was a teenager so not particularly in the festive spirit! But seeing how much my little cousins enjoyed in got me in the mood!
