Over the Christmas holiday many of us like to get out of the house and spend time with the family by going to the cinema. Whether it’s because you’re fed up of being indoors or desperately trying to entertain children, ODEON would like to find out what you do when you venture out of the house at Christmas to see a movie.

Here’s what ODEON has to say: “With so many family films out and many families planning their trip to the cinema to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi, ODEON wanted to know what Mumsnetters' best memories were of family visits to the cinema over the holidays.

Maybe you got taken to see a particularly Christmassy movie or a big blockbuster you'd been waiting ages to see. Or maybe you've got a great story to tell about visits with your the kids. Share your comments and stories below and you could win a £300 voucher or one of our extra special porg soft toys for the kids.”

So whether you are a regular Christmas cinema goer or have gone on occasion to escape home after over the festive season, share your Christmas cinema memories below.

Everyone who comments on the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list) as well as one of 50 soft porg toys Smile.

Thanks and good luck!

When I was a child we went to the cinema at Christmas, and my little brother liberally coated himself in ash from the ash trays! (showing my age).

Mine is very recent! We went to see Ferdinand at our local cinema near the start of the month and got to try out the lovely new chairs. They had advertised that everyone would get a Ferdinand toy but had run out, we spoke to one of the staff and they were fantastic - she found 1 toy by the end of the film and a few days later she found another which she offered I could come by and collect. She really went above and beyond and definitely helped start the December Christmas spirit for us all!

(It was a odeon cinema btw Grin)

We went to see Paddington a few years ago and loved it, really got us into the holiday spirit. We're looking forward to seeing Paddington 2 this Christmas

FoofFighter · 21/12/2017 19:15

Going to see Frozen on Christmas Eve a few years ago when we were in the midst of power cut which lasted several days. It was so lovely to be in a warm cinema but possibly not the best subject matter!

ScaryMary81 · 21/12/2017 21:17

Loved watching the minions and wreck it Ralph at our local odeon.

And the kids club was is amazing value during the holiday period!

CheeseAtFourpence · 21/12/2017 22:29

We have loved Paddington 2 this year. We always try to meet up with friends at the cinema this time of year and get all the kids together.

We never had the cinema as a Christmas treat, but since Star Wars has become a December release for the last however long, it's become a treat for my husband from me! I tend to take him to a showing soon after release, then take his parents with us to see it again just after Christmas.

Love the Porgs!

Watching Arthur Christmas when pregnant with my first and trying to hide the fact I was crying at a kids film in front of friends.

I remember my Auntie taken me to the cinema as a child to see Jungle Book. I also remember going with a different auntie and my mum to see the Sound of Music It was the first time I'd seen it but I think my mum had seen it 4 times and my auntie 6!!

Going to watch ET as a child. Still love it now!

Gill81uk · 22/12/2017 09:07

Last year my children and I went to watch Moanna at our local Odeon and had such a lovely relaxing experience that we've decided to make it a tradition. This year we will be going to see Paddington.

I remember the first ever trip I did to the cinema was for a friend's 8th birthday and we saw The Rescuers. It was one of the most exciting and memorable birthday treats I had ever been on. I will never ever forget being completely lost in the film and wishing it would never end. I will never forget it and it has given me a lifelong love of going to the cinema.

My boyfriend, now DH, met in our mid thirties and found out that our parents lived about 40 minutes from each other. We both went to our respective family homes for Christmas Day and slept in our teenage bedrooms. Both of us are fairly shy about things like relationships, so when we met at the Cinema on Boxing Day, it felt like we were sneaking around like teenagers. Was ace.

mogloveseggs · 22/12/2017 18:07

Lovely afternoon a few years ago watching Paddington on Christmas Eve with my best friend and all our children. Then walking home looking at all the Christmas trees.

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/12/2017 19:02

I remember seeing ET at the cinema as a child and loved it, still do.
We go every few months but it's hard to find something to please everyone. We're treating DH to Star Wars on Christmas Eve.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/12/2017 20:59

Watching The lion the Witch and the Wardrobe at the cinema with dd when she was little. Her gasp as Lucy walked through into Narnia for the first time was so sweet.

goose1964 · 22/12/2017 22:45

When DS2 was around 2 years old we went to see babe , luckily we were more or less alone as DS spent most of the time crawling around the cinema pretending to be a pig

Treaclespongeandcustard · 22/12/2017 23:00

Seeing Care Bears the movie with my cousin and aunt when I was around 4. We had a care bear mask free with our ticket and a cardboard hat and I treasured them for weeks. Happy days

voyager50 · 23/12/2017 13:52

I'm afraid we have never been to the cinema at Christmas - ever since I was a child we have always been to a panto instead!

onedayatatime73 · 23/12/2017 14:18

Going to see Paddington this Christmas. Our first outing as a whole family with the youngest old enough to come with us for the first time. A memory I'll treasure

TellMeItsNotTrue · 23/12/2017 17:03

One time really sticks in my mind, I was in my tweens and my 2 older sisters were out with friends Christmas shopping and stuff but I was too young for that sort of thing so my parents took me to the cinema. Going to the cinema and getting my choice of film and both parents to myself was fantastic, but when we walked out of the film my dad pointed out that another one was just starting, parents looked at each other, checked time and asked if I fancied going to see it! So we bought tickets and more treats (again, a big deal because normally rationed due to buying for 3 DC and triple the child's tickets too) and went back in to a different screen to watch a different film!

I have never done that again but I still think of it every time I go to the cinema, happy times

Givemecoffeeplease · 23/12/2017 22:06

I never went to the cinema as a kid as we were very remote. Now I live in central London and I’ve made it per of our Christmas routine. This year we are seeing Ferdinand - we walk to the cinema for fresh air (ahem, pic n mix calories), and it gets us out of the house and doing something together. Merry Christmas!
