Are you one of the 56%* of parents who have never heard of water warts? Or are you able to spot the symptoms of water warts? Do you have experience of them in your own children?

In case you didn't know, water warts are a skin condition most common in childhood characterised by raised spots which can look like small pearls under the skin - this can last up to 18 months without treatment.

MolluTinc is a new treatment for water warts now available from pharmacies. It is the only product available in the UK to contain 10% potassium hydroxide and works by breaking down the water warts on the skin and allowing the body’s own immune system to tackle the virus that causes them. Applied twice daily for 2-10 days, it can help clear water warts within 1-5 weeks. It is suitable for those aged one year and upwards. For more information, visit mollutinc.co.uk/

Here’s what MolluTinc has to say: "whilst water warts only affects 5-11% of children aged 16 years and under, over 11% of children affected will experience a severe impact on quality-of-life as a result of the condition - we would love to know what you know about water warts, how you cope with them and your own tips on how to avoid them"

Please share your experiences with this condition. If you haven’t heard of water warts, we’d also love to hear from you about how you imagine them to be. All who share their tips for coping with water warts or their experiences of it on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

I've honestly never heard of them, and having read the description I don't think I've ever seen them either in any of my kids, or anyone else's! I'm surprised they're so common!

AR2012 · 10/08/2017 08:24

molluscum contagiosum is what i know them by and the best thing to do is to leave them be as they'll clear up on their own.

Yaracuy · 10/08/2017 08:35

Luckily none of us has ever had any. We were and still are a family of swimmers and living in England has made us take up on swimming pools natation. None of us has had one. Hope it stays like that as it is a diversion we all enjoy.

ReedBunting · 10/08/2017 08:40

Yes I've heard of water warts but only through googling as my DS1 has them and we are battling to remove them. Nothing has worked so far Sad

spottypjs · 10/08/2017 08:52

I've never heard of them and I work in a school so usually get to know most childhood diseases/illnesses!

daniel1996 · 10/08/2017 08:57

My youngest had Molloscum. Never heard it called water warts. He still gets them when he is run down, mainly on his joints and they last for 6 weeks, give or take, and the doctor told me he has the virus as it was linked to the chicken pox he was infected with as a baby (he has the condition very severely) I will certainly be on the look out for this treatment if the condition ever flares up again. Thanks MN

happysouls · 10/08/2017 09:03

No I've never heard of them! I have had a wide range of skin conditions over the years, thank goodness there is another one that I haven't added to the collection!

Alexandra87 · 10/08/2017 09:08

Never heard of this but now I've had a google ds2 had these recently. They went away on their own after a while

voyager50 · 10/08/2017 09:10

I have never heard of water warts before - I have only worried about verrucas in swimming pools!

vixo · 10/08/2017 09:18

I've also never heard of molluscum being called water warts - and certainly wouldn't be searching for a 'cure' for water warts if I knew my children had molluscum! I wouldn't buy this product as molluscum are harmless and go by themselves, and as far as I'm aware even dermatologists don't recommend any treatment for them.

Ganne1 · 10/08/2017 09:33

I have never heard of them, but it's something to look out for now

frances93 · 10/08/2017 09:45

I can honestly say I've never heard of water warts, but I can't imagine it's very nice for children especially those in school with visible warts as children can be so cruel! My tip would be to get them diagnosed correctly and treat them asap, thankfully treatment seems fairly simple with MolluTinc

shellywkd · 10/08/2017 10:08

Never heard of them until now. My daughter definitely didn't have them. Can imagine it would be quite frustrating though as they are harder to diagnose if there isn't a lot of people who are familiar with the condition. Always worth reading up on new things though.

sammylea80 · 10/08/2017 10:12

I've never heard of these before! I have a huge scar on my leg where a doctor used a freezing treatment for a skin wart, in hind sight I think I'd leave all warts well alone to do their own thing. They usually disappear eventually anyway.

bubbleybooboo · 10/08/2017 10:18

I have never heard them called water warts but my daughter does have them. The doctors wont remove them as they say its better to wait it out. Plus as the doctor told my daughter how they would be removed if they did do it and it scared her!

Definately going to look into this treatment now though

theresamustgo · 10/08/2017 10:31

Never heard of them...I assumed it was some new name for verrucas. They sound weird. I don't think my children have ever had them......will look out for them though. Mind you DD seems to have everything going, so perhaps my memory banks will dig up a trace of them after the next watery escapade. Pearls under the skin sound rather lovely though.....

theresamustgo · 10/08/2017 10:35

Stupid me...got nothing to do with water, it was the verruca thing got me going. Would be simo,er if they were know as mollusc us contagios or whatever.

BellaWella86 · 10/08/2017 10:44

I have personally never experienced water warts with my two children. I can imagine they might be quite itchy and cause irritation. This looks like a very effective remedy!

Falconhoof1 · 10/08/2017 10:44

I've never heard of water warts. My son however, has bumps on his skin that I think are molluscum. I thought they were harmless and will go on their own time? I don't think he gives them a thought!

Falconhoof1 · 10/08/2017 10:48

Just realised though, my DS has had them way longer than 18 months. Maybe I need to get some cream for them....

I don't think I have ever heard of these....nor do I think my DC has ever had any....

OnMyShoulders · 10/08/2017 10:55

One of my DS's has these, but like others, I've never heard of this term before. I haven't actually treated them. I didn't realise I had to Blush. I figured they'd just go on their own.

laurac1987 · 10/08/2017 11:10

I've never heard of water warts and no idea what sort of problems they would cause. I am guessing that they are wart that are formed because of being in water? Or are they caught from other children/people?

dementedpixie · 10/08/2017 11:23

They are not warts and not spread by being in water so shouldn't be called water warts at all. Call them their proper name and you might get more effective responses
