Are you one of the 56%* of parents who have never heard of water warts? Or are you able to spot the symptoms of water warts? Do you have experience of them in your own children?

In case you didn't know, water warts are a skin condition most common in childhood characterised by raised spots which can look like small pearls under the skin - this can last up to 18 months without treatment.

MolluTinc is a new treatment for water warts now available from pharmacies. It is the only product available in the UK to contain 10% potassium hydroxide and works by breaking down the water warts on the skin and allowing the body’s own immune system to tackle the virus that causes them. Applied twice daily for 2-10 days, it can help clear water warts within 1-5 weeks. It is suitable for those aged one year and upwards. For more information, visit mollutinc.co.uk/

Here’s what MolluTinc has to say: "whilst water warts only affects 5-11% of children aged 16 years and under, over 11% of children affected will experience a severe impact on quality-of-life as a result of the condition - we would love to know what you know about water warts, how you cope with them and your own tips on how to avoid them"

Please share your experiences with this condition. If you haven’t heard of water warts, we’d also love to hear from you about how you imagine them to be. All who share their tips for coping with water warts or their experiences of it on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

Typical sales pitch, make up a condition and then sell a remedy to treat it!

I work in a pharmacy so I have heard and seen Molluscum Contagiosum (Water Warts) they form 1week to 6 months after a child has been infected Water warts spread between children by touch, sharing a towel and clothes that has been in contact with a water wart. Luckily my children have never had them. But they generally look like water blisters but I have seen a case of water warts that are red and sore from children scratching at them and causing them to inflame but they don't usually hurt or bother children and they will clear up eventually by themselves

DS had these when he was about 6 - he hated them as some were really big and were in the crease of his groin so got rubbed by pants etc. I treated them with tea tree oil on wee plasters as recommended by the health visitor and it got rid of them after a couple of weeks

Both of my kids swim a lot and they both had molluscum. It lasted for ages and looked awful. I tried various 'natural' treatments and in the end lemon myrtle oil was the thing that worked.

Marv1nGay3 · 09/08/2017 23:49

Sorry I should have said lemon myrtle oil diluted course- not neat!

glennamy · 09/08/2017 23:57

I have heard of them before but not experienced them...

Leopardprints · 09/08/2017 23:58

I have never heard of water warts but will read more about them to get more information.

Sid98 · 10/08/2017 00:01

never heard of

GreenTulips · 10/08/2017 00:08

All three had them - we used an antibacterial wash on wash off soap brought on Amazon - they disappeared after a few weeks

I always check American websites as they seem more forward in these types of issues

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 10/08/2017 00:11

I've never heard of this. It sounds pretty gross though.

Pigeonpost · 10/08/2017 00:38

Grinat "water warts"! DS3 had them, his brothers never did. Eventually one got infected and that quickly killed the others off. He has lots of tiny pitted scars on his chest/underarm from them though Sad

haveacupoftea · 10/08/2017 00:39

Never heard of them. Why can't people with gross contagious diseases stay out of swimming pools though?

Pigeonpost · 10/08/2017 00:39

Oh, and I've always known them as molluscum contagiousum Never bothered seeing a dr.

kateandme · 10/08/2017 06:41

are we inventing thing for money because we spot a gap/weakness?in the market? or is this actually something people are concerned over.do we need it?dont they go on there own.are we peering onto people perhaps vulnerabilities and taking money for a product we don't actually need.

toopeoply · 10/08/2017 06:45

Never had it or heard of it but if they dud, I'd obviously try this!

cazzzie987 · 10/08/2017 06:59

Never heard of them but I love the sound of it though. Sounds so different.

janeyf1 · 10/08/2017 07:05

I have never heard of water warts and glad they are not common. No one I know has ever had one but I will certainly know what to do now if my girl ever gets one

glenka · 10/08/2017 07:22

I've never heard of them before or don't think we're ever had them.

angiehoggett · 10/08/2017 07:32

I've not heard of them but it would be handy to know how to treat them if it ever happened

CopperKettle11 · 10/08/2017 07:35

Both my children have these at the moment - although they do not bother them on the whole, they both have experienced a couple of the spots getting infected which they needed antibiotics for. I will definitely be giving this product a go!

vonniebab2 · 10/08/2017 07:35

My children have never had water warts I have never heard of them, good to know they are treatable

janney3 · 10/08/2017 08:05

My children have both had molluscum. They are harmless but annoying and can catch on clothing. Indeed this is how we finally managed to kick start their immune system into fighting the virus by accidentally making knocking one which bled and they finally disappeared almost overnight.

lizd31 · 10/08/2017 08:12

I'd never heard of them so did a bit of googling & found this.
Water warts are caused by the molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV). Many people who come in contact with the virus have immunity against it, and do not develop any growths. For those who are not immune, small, pink, dome-like growths usually appear 2 to 8 weeks after infection. Although they are not painful, water warts are unsightly and can cause embarrassment.

maryandbuzz1 · 10/08/2017 08:16

This,is a new one to me...I have never heard of them but seeing this made me do a bit of research. I don't think my son ever suffered from them but they do look like an embarrassing condition and anything that would be effective in getting rid if them would be great.
