Are you one of the 56%* of parents who have never heard of water warts? Or are you able to spot the symptoms of water warts? Do you have experience of them in your own children?

In case you didn't know, water warts are a skin condition most common in childhood characterised by raised spots which can look like small pearls under the skin - this can last up to 18 months without treatment.

MolluTinc is a new treatment for water warts now available from pharmacies. It is the only product available in the UK to contain 10% potassium hydroxide and works by breaking down the water warts on the skin and allowing the body’s own immune system to tackle the virus that causes them. Applied twice daily for 2-10 days, it can help clear water warts within 1-5 weeks. It is suitable for those aged one year and upwards. For more information, visit mollutinc.co.uk/

Here’s what MolluTinc has to say: "whilst water warts only affects 5-11% of children aged 16 years and under, over 11% of children affected will experience a severe impact on quality-of-life as a result of the condition - we would love to know what you know about water warts, how you cope with them and your own tips on how to avoid them"

Please share your experiences with this condition. If you haven’t heard of water warts, we’d also love to hear from you about how you imagine them to be. All who share their tips for coping with water warts or their experiences of it on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

My tip would be to get them diagnosed correctly and treat them asap, thankfully treatment seems fairly simple with MolluTinc

Do you work for them? Grin

Another person who has never heard the term'water warts' to describe molluscum- did your marketing team dream it up? Anyway they're not warts are they and I think that name sounds far more unpleasant. Although GP advice sends to be to leave well alone my daughter was embarrassed by them so I used a sterile needle to pop a few and remove the pus after which her natural defences seemed to kick in and they cleared.

When I first saw this I thought you were talking of veruccas.
I visualise them as something like a wet type of eczema but I don't think I'm right having had a quick Google.
I have never heard of them but pleased to be aware.

I've never heard of water warts but I guess they are a skin condition caused by exposure to water.

Never heard molluscum called 'water warts'. I think it is a bad move from a marketing point of view, as I doubt anyone refers to the condition that way and it risks stigmatizing a very common problem.

Only one of my 4 DC had molluscum and it never spread to the others. The spots were very discrete silver 'bubbles' and looked nothing like the images on the packaging. It resolved on its own after a few months. We left it alone for fear of scarring.

I think I had this as a child and used to enjoy popping them! Neither children have had them yet.

Nope, nothing to do with exposure to water. They also aren't warts. It's a skin virus spread by direct contact with the lesions. May also be spread by contact with things that have touched the lesions so don't share clothing/towels.

Calling them water warts causes confusion so shouldn't be used

My daughter had these a couple of years ago and I couldn't find anything to get rid of them. They didn't really bother her except for one or two which were knocked with clothing etc. Good to know there's something around to try if she gets them again.

I'm another mum who has never heard these described as water warts before. Both my older children have them and they were the bane of my life for at least a year. When they got really bad we tried lots of creams but to be honest not much helped. In the end, they did go away and they weren't as bad as I've heard some people get but if there was a product that actually gets rid of them I would have bought it immediately at any price. The only thing that did sometimes seem to get rid of them was freezing them like you would a verruca but that is far too painful for a child (of mine anyway!) to deal with! We managed it once when my eldest was about 6.

I have never heard molluscum called "water warts" in English but I recognise it from "Wasserwarzen", the German colloquial term for molluscum.

The manufacturer (Glenmark) appears to be German so I suspect that "water warts" has come about as the result of direct (and in this case, poor) translation into English.
