Lidl has a couple of questions about your weekly shop that they’d love you to answer over the next 48 hours!

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?
  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Please post your thoughts below and one MNer will win a £50 Love2Shop voucher (note it will be 2x£25 vouchers, one per transaction).

Good luck with the prize draw!

  1. I shop at Aldi mostly as its cheap has most things I need, its nearby and quick to shop in
  1. though a new Lidl opened nearer to me after my first shop there I decided I would never shop there again. Brocolli that was rotten through the core when unwrapped and a pizza that was disgusting.
lolamia91 · 08/08/2017 21:47

I shop at Lidl as it is cheap and round the corner from my house. Has great produce.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

I go to my local Lidl, the choice is good for a week to week shop and I don't feel offended by the cost of the items.

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

Price is a factor, after the initial change from Sainsbury's I was first worried that the cost difference would mean I was compromising on quality but was really pleasantly surprised.

I do use Lidl but do occasionally top up my shop for additional items such as dumpling mix, sanitary products that suit my body, Kellogg's cornflakes (which I prefer) and a couple of other things.

  1. I go to Aldi for the majority of my shop and Tesco for anything they don't have (usually specialist milk etc). Go to Aldi as the prices are excellent particularly the weekly fruit and veg deals which are great value. I go to Tesco as it's closest to Aldi (don't even need to move the car) and they are guaranteed to have what I need in stock. I also prefer more of my money going to Aldi as they are a living wage employer.
  2. There's not a Lidl near me
  3. It's not local to me. They may be opening one near me and I would definitely use it. However I would anticipate having to do a top
Up shop elsewhere. When I have used Lidl I have liked the products but you it's very hit and miss For the products you need e.g. Red lentils for soup, branded dog food.
hmariez · 08/08/2017 21:56

We go to lidl because of the price and quality of products.

We also go to Morrisons as lidl does not stock as many branded products. Lidl also doesn't have a deli counter.

tia3456 · 08/08/2017 21:58

The nearest Lidl to me is in town so don't venture their that much, if I am passing by a Lidl while travelling I will pop in depending what offers are on that week or weekend, I feel like the weekend offers aren't that good anymore so do visit less than I used to

Palegreenstars · 08/08/2017 21:59
  1. Sainsbury's or Aldi because they are. Closest.
2 n/a
  1. Further away and sometimes I've found it a risk as can't get everything on my list. Last time I think I got annoyed that I couldn't get a particular (not rare) spice.

The price is good so we still go back once every 3 months or so.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Our local LIDL has just been refurbished and we're finding that we're now shopping in it for the main shop due to the larger variety it now stocks.

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

The range is fantastic and can easily get everything we need in it at a lower price than almost every supermarket. We don't necessarily save loads due to the variety of food we now buy but we don't need to top up as often so have more family time.

I do and find it perfect.

sweir1 · 08/08/2017 22:10

We go to Lidl weekly primary because it has a great bakery.

delilahbucket · 08/08/2017 22:11

I use Sainsburys for my main shop. I use them as they sell the obscure ingredients we like to cook with, their customer service is excellent, the staff are all friendly, their home delivery service is the best.
I have never been to a Lidl (in this country) as I don't live anywhere near one and they don't deliver. To be honest though, I put Lidl in the same box as Aldi and after trying Aldi for six weeks and getting fed up with having to visit two supermarkets every week because I could never get what I wanted (as well as the time spent not having it delivered), I am unlikely to ever shop there. I cannot imagine them selling everything I want to buy because the stores are too small.

madge47 · 08/08/2017 22:20

I shop online Tesco because I have shopped there for years I have my favourites list so its easy and quick.I dont enjoy food shopping.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
Asda - can get everything in one place and they do home delivery when I don't want to drag the kids with me!

The range of food isn't great. It's somewhere I pop to get things like special bread/cheese twists or nice chorizo but I don't find I can do a whole weekly shop there. I then end up having to go to Asda anyway. It is cheap tho! Also, there are usually two members of staff in the whole store so the queues are massive!

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Tesco online delivery, as I don't live near any main shops at the mo and find it easier to shop online as I stick to a list!

* I used to live next door to one and still pop back for the bakery (great selection) and the meat when I'm in that area.*

* Too far away :(*

  1. I go to Aldi because it has great quality products at value for money prices. Love their super six on fruit & veg.
  2. I often visit Lidl & purchase goods (not main shop) but they seem to have gone into brands more which I am not. The staff do not seem as friendly as Aldi either. Often have stock on the sales floor blocking aisles, & decarding boxes.
Twitchingdog · 08/08/2017 22:29

I have Lidl round the corner but I can't carry much home from it as I use a white stick. So I get stuff deliver from Iceland and asda

AlakazamAlakazoom · 08/08/2017 22:31
  1. I go to Aldi/Sainsburys 50/50 - Aldi because its closest and such good value, but I need to go to Sainsburys periodically to pick up the extras that Aldi don't stock.
  1. Lidl is too far away for me to consider shopping there.
CheeseEMouse · 08/08/2017 22:32

I use ocado. I switched over when the children were babies and I couldn't face going to the supermarket. They were consistently the most reliable online.

I don't use lidl primarily because I now shop online for the supermarket. I am afraid convenience wins at the moment

Cailin7 · 08/08/2017 22:33

We alternate our weekly shop sometimes we go to Aldi and other times Lidl. The main reason is price and quality of produce compared to our local Tesco. We generally shop at Aldi more often though because they stock everything we are looking to buy, and their fresh produce and wine is better quality. We love some of the Lidl products hence why we shop there. We would shop more often at Lidl if we could buy most things on our shopping list.

pinkspideruk · 08/08/2017 22:33
  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Lidl - good offers, cheap catfood, good selection and local

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

Price - esp on cat food and snacks and fruit and veg

  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

I tend to buy my fresh meat (beef and lamb) from a local butchers just because I think it's better value and quality but everything else is pretty good at Lidls - I would like to see some loose carrots though as I dont want a whole bag!

Antoniacaenis · 08/08/2017 22:36

I split my weekly shop between Lidl and Ocado. Mostly fresh produce from Lidl. Started going to Lidl for the lactose free natural yoghurt and German brands which I miss now they've stopped stocking them ( sauerkraut etc).
I go to Lidl for the quality of the veg and the prices. Also very happy with the nappies and wipes.
Don't like the processed food too much though and wish Lidl did lactose free milk etc.
Have to use Ocado for luxuries and lactosefree stuff, oth

RaininSummer · 08/08/2017 22:56

I shop at Lidl most weeks but alao have a monthly delivery from one of the two big supermarkets for all the stuff Lidl dont sell. Lidl is convenient as I pass one every week, the prices are good, it is easy to park and they have a fair range on the whole.

fivekidsonemum · 08/08/2017 22:58
  1. I go to Asda for my main shopping because it is at the back of my house, because they have great offers on branded foods and their own range is cheap and tastes nice eg Asdas own bread is always thick and fresh.

  2. I don't do my main shop at Lidl I only do top up shopping there

  3. I don't think Lidl has very much choice of branded foods eg cereals, yogurts, tin food and the offers/price aren't as cheap as Asda and it's too far compared with having a Asda at the back of my house. But I DO do a top up shop to get my fruit, veg, baby toiletries and meats from Lidl because I find them a lot fresher than Asda and I also think they are cheaper in Lidl than Asd and the baby range is cheap and sensitive yet quality. Lidl need to have more branded items eg Cadbury yogurts, Cereals, frozen foods like aunt Bessie's, Birdseye, etc

sbruin1122 · 08/08/2017 23:04

We go to lidl because of the quality and price :)

Tonkatol · 08/08/2017 23:07

I usually do my weekly shop at Tesco, although I have also been using Ocado. I use Tesco because it is the closest supermarket to home. I have been using Ocado for the past few weeks as it has been useful during the school holidays to have the shopping delivered and I have vouchers that have given me a discount on my shopping.

I very rarely, if ever, shop in Lidl. The nearest store to me is quite an old store (I remember it as being a Safeway when I went to school) and there is a long walk from the car park to the store, via a steep slope. I am disabled and I could not manage to get from the car park to the store. If I parked outside the store, it is on a very busy road and by a bus-stop so would be very inconvenient for other road users. The other Lidl near to us is about 10 miles from us. It is a much newer store and I have visited it once or twice. However, I have always found with Lidl that, although they have some products that are a very good price, you cannot do a planned shop in Lidl because, what is in store one week, will not be in store the next.

jandoc · 08/08/2017 23:08

I shop mainly in Aldi but I do go to Lidl sometimes for a few items
