Lidl has a couple of questions about your weekly shop that they’d love you to answer over the next 48 hours!

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?
  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Please post your thoughts below and one MNer will win a £50 Love2Shop voucher (note it will be 2x£25 vouchers, one per transaction).

Good luck with the prize draw!

  1. I go to tesco due to convience and choice of products .

3.The nearest Lidl is to far away .

sharond101 · 09/08/2017 12:40

I go to lidl as the quality and value is exceptional. I had to go to one of the major supermarkets for a few things lidl don't sell like dairy free yogurts, apple squash and hovis bread.

hann24 · 09/08/2017 12:41

I go to Sainsbury's as without a car it's the only supermarket I can easily get to. It has a great range of products, but I'm aware it isn't always the cheapest.

I do as much of my weekly shop in Lidl. It is a large store with plenty of parking. I particularly like the quality of fresh meat available.

1)My main shop alternates between Tesco and lidl(though sometimes Morrisons or asda or Aldi)

  1. I like lidl as it is local, and the food is well priced

  2. the reason I don't use lidl every week is that you don't deliver and there are some things you don't do (i.e. Fish pie mix, a large selection of quorn)

Lidl is where we do our main weekly shop as it's good value.
  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

Price and quality of food. We have to travel a bit to get there but it's worth it as it saves us a lot compared to other supermarkets.

Some weeks we do a shop at Tesco or Sainsbury's instead, as they are nearer and more convenient to travel to. It would be great if there was a Lidl more close by.

Humphreyhippo · 09/08/2017 13:32

I divide our weekly shop between Lidl and Sainsburys. This is convenient because both in our nearest town and the town where I work, the two are on the same site.

We use Lidl for most vegetables and some meat ( free range chicken, outdoor bred pork sausages etc). Would buy more meat there if there was more free-range. Cheese and cold meats are fab, as is chocolate. We've recently discovered the Batts brand of ketchup, mayo etc - DH did a blindfold taste test with the whole family and Batts came out on top.

The main reason we still use Sainsbury's is that we need to buy gluten and dairy free food for DS2 that we can't get in Lidl. And I prefer Sainsbury's fruit and potatoes.

  1. I do my main weekly shop in Waitrose or Sainsbury's. It depends how much time I have as I self scan and which items I need on that particular visit.
  1. I have used it when on holiday and have been impressed with the quality.

3.I very rarely use Lidl as there isn't one near me. I would have to travel half an hour each way by car.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

It used to be Sainsburys, but we've been trying to stick to a tighter budget lately, so we've started shopping at Lidl and Aldi. If we need to do an online order, though, it would have to be Sainsburys.

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

The price is amazing - we can do our weekly shop for half the price of Sainsburys which is just next door. The quality is good too, and there's a fair amount of choice.

We would do all of our shopping with Lidl if they had an online service!!

I use Ocado, purely because of the convenience and offers

It's Lidl's reputation, which is not very good.
Flowers321 · 09/08/2017 14:24
  1. Lidl and Aldi - to try to save money.
  1. A good selection of fruit and veg
  1. Occasionally elsewhere for more branded products
Topsyturvy01 · 09/08/2017 14:32

I mainly shop at Asda as it's the closest supermarket. There's not a lot of choice in my area. But that looks to change soon as a Lidl is currently being built even closer to me so I will definitely be trying there for a welcome change.

porjuk · 09/08/2017 14:33
  1. I got to my local Lidl and sometimes a Nisa which is only 1 min walk from my home.
  1. I got to Lidl because the products are good value and of equal or better quality than other supermarkets.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

I shop online with Morrisons for my main shop. I have a delivery pass and the app and website is very easy to use. Also rarely give me any substitutions.

I don't do my main shop at Lidl purely because I prefer online grocery shopping and don't have time to do a full shop. I do have a local Lidl and do like to top up there when I need to.

piggypoo · 09/08/2017 14:44

Q1. We go to Aldi for the weekly shop, Iceland and Lidl for the top up shopping.

Q2. I love Lidl for the great range of wines and spirits, and always go there for party shopping and for family party/celebration shopping.

Q3. We don't go there for the main shop as it doesn't stock all the products we want, and also it's a bit of a trip out of the way for us.

raspberryblush23 · 09/08/2017 14:45

I usually do my weekly shop at Asda because I stay very near a 24 hour store.

I actually like Lidl products especially their fresh bakery items and sometimes do my weekly shop there. However I don t have a car so walking there is very weather dependent- the cost of a taxi may negate the actual money I'd save st Lidl. Plus I always find the layout of the store a bit stressful compared to my local Asda.

Pam100127 · 09/08/2017 14:50
  1. I use, Lidl, Tesco, Asda, occasionally Iceland & Sainsbury.
  2. I particularly like fruit & veg, in-store bakery, rice cakes and tinned veg, but also buy many other groceries and household and electrical items.
  3. Lidl have just opened a new bigger store near me and it is very good. I'm there at least twice a week.
Dangermouse80 · 09/08/2017 14:56

Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Aldi - mainly because of price and location.
Also have home shopping delivered from Tesco 1 or 2 times a month.

It is further away for us and I couldn't always get what I wanted, the product range seemed to change a lot in our old local one. The layout was not as good as Aldi.
Lidl did not seem to have as good meat ranges.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
  • I go to four shops for my weekly shop: Tesco, Iceland, Aldi and Home & Bargain. I go where I know things are cheapest (eg bakery stuff like waffles and pancakes are best from Aldi; household goods from H&B etc)
  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?
  • I've never shopped at Lidl, although I'd love to.

  • There isn't a Lidl within easy reach of my home. The closest one is about 3-4 miles away which doesn't sound like much, but when I have almost every other supermarket within 1.5 miles I'm not going to travel further. I am keen to try Lidl though particularly since I had an email this morning advertising CHURROS, my favourite dessert!
lesley37 · 09/08/2017 15:46

My nearest Lidl is some miles away therefore I only visit if there is a special offer that I really want, but when I do visit i always find lots off good things that I can only get there. I would so like Lidl to open a store in my town.

slbhill42 · 09/08/2017 15:53

I get my weekly shop delivered (by Tesco) because it's so much easier than traipsing round a store with a small child. But I do sometimes use Lidl if I'm doing it the old fashioned way!

Elizasmum02 · 09/08/2017 16:15

i go to lidl for my weekly shop as the prices are good, i also liek the variety or products and the fact it changes each time i go in !

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 09/08/2017 16:24
  1. I do a fortnightly shop rather than weekly and get it delivered by Tesco. I don't have a car so it's important that it's delivered.
  1. n/a
  1. It's mainly because they don't deliver, though I am not convinced that I'd be able to get everything I wanted in my local Lidl
grannybiker · 09/08/2017 16:25
  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

We live in a rural area, but the nearest town has Lidl - hooray! OK, there's not a huge range, but neither does the alternative - a very expensive Co-op.

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

It's the cheapest option with decent parking and I pop in while visiting family nearby.

There are one or two things I can think of, but nothing too desperate! E.G I like the lemon smoked mackerel in Aldi, but I wait until I'm going near an Aldi.
muminthecity · 09/08/2017 16:46
  1. I usually have my main weekly shop delivered by Tesco, because I don't drive and Tesco are the only ones who are happy to walk up the 2 flights of stairs to my flat to deliver (Sainsbury's and Asda have both refused in the past.)
  1. When money is tight, often towards the end of the month before payday I shop at Lidl instead as it works out much cheaper and I can still get everything I need. The only downside is I have to walk there and back and lug the shopping up all the stairs so I can't get a full weekly shop in one go.
