Lidl has a couple of questions about your weekly shop that they’d love you to answer over the next 48 hours!

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?
  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Please post your thoughts below and one MNer will win a £50 Love2Shop voucher (note it will be 2x£25 vouchers, one per transaction).

Good luck with the prize draw!

Our main weekly shopping is done online with Tesco, I use Lidl as a top up shop.

lorrainej162 · 09/08/2017 08:30
  1. I go to Tesco or Tesco home delivery, as I can get everything I need in one go.
  1. I don't do my main shop at Lidl, but I like to pop in and see what their weekly offers are.
  1. My main reasons for not doing my main shop at Lidl is that they don't do the brands that I like and I can't get everything I want.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

I go do Lidl - It is my nearest supermarket (just pips Asda) however on price quality and new brands it beats all other supermarkets for me.

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

I love the brands available at Lidl (I am a reformed brand snob), the car park is easy to park, things are easy to find at Lidl, the price is the main reason I shop there, being on a tight budget I have saved over £200 per month buying fresh, non brands and changing to the Toujours nappies which are brilliant.

  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

I am lucky enough to have 2 Lidl supermarkets in my home town, and shop weekly, but in the winter months I admit I may switch to Iceland because of the home delivery and the fact that it is harder to get everyone ready and go out in the cold and snow, when I can have my shopping delivered.

Lidl or Tesco or Asda (Lidl is closest, Tesco is a top up for anything I can't get at Lidl round the corner. Asda for big shops which need household stuff...or their cheap pizza deal!)

2. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?
Price, location. I will go there specifically to buy the ham trimmings and wine gums though!

3. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?
Only if we have passed an Aldi while already out; or as per #1, we are getting household stuff so we go to Asda instead to save making trips to multiple shops.

We do our weekly shop online at Waitrose. By shopping online we manage to to keep to a budget and by taking advantage of offers and their 'pick your own' offer it is costing us no more than other supermarkets (we used to use Tesco) but the quality of food is much better and the fruit and veg lasts a whole week rather than a couple of days. We stopped using Tesco as their fruit was rotten withing a couple of days. We also do a top up shop at Aldi or Lidl every now and then to get some bits for the cupboard.

Leanfun · 09/08/2017 08:52

Our nearest supermarket is Lidls and we do shop there for quite a lot to top up our weekly shop. Years ago the fruit and veg used to be really fresh now not so. However our store was redesigned and is very clean and easy to find what you want. The bread is great.

EmilyK83 · 09/08/2017 08:54

It tends to be Asda for our main shop - it's our nearest big supermarket... I do tend to go to the local Aldi and Lidl for top up shops, though, during the week! I love Lidl's prices and the range of different foods and drinks they offer - especially drinks, the quality of their alcoholic offering is amazing!

vicks276 · 09/08/2017 08:58
  1. I usually go to Tesco, as it offers the best range in my local area.
  2. I don't currently shop at Lidl as there isn't one close by.
3.I don't currently shop at Lidl as there isn't one close by. I do call in when I am passing one on my travels. Although one is currently being built within 5 mins of my home so once it is open I will be switching! I love the inshore bakery products and the diverse range they offer, and I find the produce last much longer than Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys.
nonnyno · 09/08/2017 09:05

We do the majority of our weekly shop at Lidl. They have a good variety of products and are cheaper than the main supermarkets. Also we go to Aldi every week. particularly like the super 6 and chocolate. Both stores are so good for cold meats, veg and chilled goods. Anything we can't get at Lidl or Aldi we get from Tesco, but it seems to have got so expensive now. Lidl's range and prices are good, but the "shopping experience" is the same in any supermarket

We particularly like the fresh baked goods in Lidl and the beer. Prices in both Lidl and Aldi are starting to creep up.

AR2012 · 09/08/2017 09:30

Lidl it’s the value for money especially in these trying times

snare · 09/08/2017 09:31

I generally go to Tesco because reasonable price and close to where I live

BoffinMum · 09/08/2017 10:10
  1. i go to Waitrose as it's nearest and I am quite busy at the moment.
  2. I only go to Lidl occasionally.
  3. The nearest Lidl is 45 minutes away. If it was 20 or less I would go there every week.
magolin · 09/08/2017 10:19

I go to Aldi or Tesco or Asda for my main shop, simply because of the location. The nearest Lidl is just a bit further away - it's got a good reputation though.

VickyRsuperstar · 09/08/2017 10:24

I go to Sainsbury's because it's the only large supermarket anywhere near us. There isn't a Lidl anywhere near unfortunately and I really wish there was one as my weekly shop costs a fortune and I would rather go to Lidl instead :-(

MillyVanilli222 · 09/08/2017 10:29
  1. I go to Tesco, as we have a large superstore just across from where we live. It's convenient!
  1. There isn't a Lidl near enough to us to make it worth the taxi cost home, unfortunately. I also find there's limited range compared to a large superstore. When I have been to Lidl, however, it's been a good experience and I've picked up some good deals.
GrooveHeart · 09/08/2017 11:05

I love Lidl. I've shopped there about 10 years now. I don't like loads of the same products to choose from. I just like simple, quality food which Lidl offers. However I used to love the meat from there but I am very disappointed as they have started doing the dirty tricks the bigger supermarkets do such as pumping the chicken breasts full of water so they appear bigger. It's really affecting the taste of the chicken and if the start doing the other things the big names do such as dodgy, confusing offers then I will move somewhere else.

ASDismynormality · 09/08/2017 11:05

I use Ocado for my weekly shop. I like getting it delivered and can easily see what's on offer. I tend also to just buy what I need.

I do visit Lidl, prob every couple of weeks, I mainly buy things I don't need just because the offers are too good to miss! Though things are cheap I end up spending more than I should!

RobotGoat · 09/08/2017 11:06

1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Lidl, because it's close and we can get almost everything that we want there. Also, it's cheaper than other supermarkets. Having less choice and a smaller shop makes it less stressful than going to a bigger supermarket, too.

2. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

As above - price is a big factor, but we also like the fact that there's less choice as it's less stressful and we can get round quickly!

3. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

  1. I alternate between Lidl, Waitrose and Tesco, although I will also go to Iceland to stock up the freezer.
  2. Lidl is great value for lots of my shopping and I love perusing the aisle of randomness.
  3. Some brands I like aren't sold in Lidl.
littlewhitething · 09/08/2017 11:17

As I am disabled and have no car, I use online shopping for most things. However, I do get the bus to the library a couple of times a month and there is a Lidl opposite, which I always go into. I used to adore the large loaves of bread (marked 'bread' as the description on the shelf!) but they no longer sell these. I buy croissants (fresh) if they have any, and biscuits, Their meat is good.

mumpetuk1 · 09/08/2017 11:26

Always pop into to Lidl to pick up a few Piri Piri chickens which we love! I do not to a weekly shop but go every other day to pick up some essentials

tabulahrasa · 09/08/2017 11:29
  1. I go to Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons in about equal amounts.
  1. I don't.
  1. I don't because I can't...it just doesn't have things I need, fairly basic thing like no vegetable stock cubes, chickpeas or lentils...I don't eat meat that's half my shopping I then have to go elsewhere for.

So I don't.

Dessallara · 09/08/2017 12:03

I would love to shop at Lidl but it's a bit too far for us. If we would have one nearby it would be one of our first choices

Hairq · 09/08/2017 12:15
  1. Tesco because it has everything we need, or Aldi because it's cheap.
  1. N/A
  1. I'd love to do my weekly shop at Lidl but there isn't one in the small town I live in or the next town on. There's one about 5 miles away in a different town but it's not a direction we usually go in.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
I go to Lidl when I feel I should be shopping more wisely. I do tend to save a lot there ( although my Son hates the quiche) If its generic things like meat cheese fish and veg I do stock up because its so much cheaper. Only thing is at the moment is there is a new retail park just opened near our local Lidl which has made it a mare to visit so avoiding for a mths till it settles.
