MY dad really does know everything though. Except who the kardashians are..!

VilootShesCute · 09/06/2017 17:39

My father does actually know more than me, he's great. But the only time he was wrong was when he bet me 20 quid he could spell forty correctly and I couldn't. I won. Bless him.

amusedbush · 09/06/2017 17:40

My dad is like a human map, he can reel off which roads you should take to get to any destination in the UK - we nicknamed him 'Dad Nav'.

There was once (many moons ago) we were going on holiday somewhere in the UK and - lo and behold - good old Dad Nav gets a bit lost. My mum was pestering him to go a different way but he insisted he knew where we were. After growing more agitated, someone cut him off and he flashed his lights at them. Well, he would have but it was a new car with different controls so he sprayed the windscreen with water instead, then he tried to give them the finger but stuck his index finger up at them 😂

Poor Dad. At least there's proper sat nav now, even if his coordination is still a bit lacking!

My dh generally thinks he knows anything and everything about cooking especially after watching a cookery series. He rather annoys me with his over use of the techy terms used in kitchens like "plating up" but rarely has the technical skills to match. The results are...interesting!

Amarjit2008 · 09/06/2017 17:44

My dad is from India and he is one of those guys that really thinks he knows it all, my mum is always putting him in his place. Mums are always right. But I love him no matter how much he thinks he is a know it all.

BigGreenOlives · 09/06/2017 17:50

DH told me very helpfully how to take off the beater of our KitchenAid. The KitchenAid I bought in 2001. So many other things that he has explained to me. If he is wrong about something he can't actually accept he was wrong, he just says I must mean some slight variation so he is right in any event.

He also gives away kitchen tools if he doesn't think they are important which really annoys me. I like using a lemon zester when I make lemon cake. He is incredibly fussy about soft furnishings but incredibly unobservant.

icklekid · 09/06/2017 17:51

My dh and dd and ds dad thinks he knows all the ideas. Doesn't claim to be able to make anything happen but always has an idea...until he doesn't of course 😂

Rachmolly80 · 09/06/2017 18:24

Well I don't have a dad, he walked out years ago - however my daughter does and it's pure entertainment. He bought a new bbq (posh one mind) off of eBay still in its box. 3 hours of torture watching him fiddle about with different tools/different angles and quite a bit of grunting with tongue poking out as if to give the promise of expertise.. anyhow DD watches on, passes relevant tools from tool box and puts non relevant tools back into foam cut outs (wrong way but in). So I wait, BBQ multipack ready and waiting. He stands up he grunts once again and pronounced it 'finished'. Dd who doesn't mind miss a trick arm outstretched presents him with 4 screws. He adjusts 3/4 BBQ type trousers and advises dd that extra screws are always included. They aren't. My tray of BBQ food buckled one end of the shelf area the moment I placed it down. And let's not forget the semi agresive battle he had trying to fit butane to a propane nozzle.... it was late but we had dinner by the time he'd been to the garage to swap the bottle 🙄

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 09/06/2017 18:26

My own DP- DD's dad likes to think of himself as handy around the house.

We have hoppers above head height in the kitchen that are just a bit too high up for me. So we dutifully went to Ikea and bought a set of wooden steps that would be vair vair handy for all of the things I'm too short for.

After 3 weeks of me suggesting that I find somebody online to come and put it together he finally capitulated and built my wooden steps.
However- he didn't read the instructions properly and forgot to put any of the steps in.

So now I am the proud owner of a wooden stool that is too high for me to climb onto to get into my kitchen hoppers....I need a second pair of steps to get onto it Grin

Next time I am googling a local handyman.

My Dad is an absolute car fanatic and can pretty much quote the statistics of hundreds of cars (comes of reading every motoring mag on the shelves!!). Every time my folks visit he'll manage to turn the conversation to cars and seem totally oblivious to the fact that everyone else in the room has completely glazed over 😂 In fairness his passion was quite handy when I was a teenager and he put his knowledge to good work by fixing my dodgy Vauxhall Chevette again and again!

Lisasm21 · 09/06/2017 19:09

My husband (and children's dad) knows everything about computers. However my family assume that this means he knows everything about anything technical and always ask him questions about random things.

Dormouse1940 · 09/06/2017 19:22

Oh dear.... well, when we were kids my dad would tell us 'dads know everything' which I guess was quite comforting at the time.
Fast forward to now, my dad genuinely seems to think he knows everything and no matter what comes up in life, he knows best- even if most of the 'advice' expressed is a good 30 years out of date!

Summergarden · 09/06/2017 19:42

My husband thinks it's easier than it is looking after three young children and keeping the house fairly tidy.

So every now and again I like to remind him by treating him to some special time with all 3 DCs at home for the day. Usually when I get back he is flopped in a chair, looking exhausted, with chaos surrounding him!

donnatella110 · 09/06/2017 19:51

My hubby is a fantastic dad to our children and is fantastic with our disabled child BUT he does think he knows and can do it all. Some examples of this is when he knew how to fix our sons wardrobe door which didn't shut properly. Came home to find the wardrobe in all individual pieces never to be put together again. Another time he said he'd cook the kids a delicious dinner... stuffed peppers ..which he put raw mince beef into peppers and put them all in a saucepan of boiling water.....just as well we love him GrinGrinGrin

Housequeen101 · 09/06/2017 19:53

My dad thinks he knows everything and he does! He's a classic dad, you could go to him about your friends aunties sister's dogfish who had a toothache and my dad would know exactly what to do. He just knows everything. I'm so lucky - he's the best Dad and we can go to him for anything and he's nothing but supportive.

My Husbad thinks he knows everything about DIY and he lies, he knows zero, zilch, bloody nada. Well he can put a picture up and change light bulbs ( now I think about it, purhaps I'm abit harsh on him, nah sod it - he still hasn't built me that top of the rand BBQ he's been promising for 973739 summers ) he's still my hero 😷

I'd be lost without both of them though that's for sure. Happy Father's Day to all the amazing Dads out there.

cookiemonster66 · 09/06/2017 21:01

My dad could convince me of anything when I was young and gullible. For example he said garibaldi biscuits had dead flies in them, so he could nosh the pack to himself! He also worked as a mechanic in a dairy and would come home with crates of milk, yogurt etc and said they fell off the back of a milk float, he said he was so fast at running he caught it as it drove down the road, without the bottles of milk even breaking!?! I was in awe at his skills!

BraayTigger · 09/06/2017 21:21

My DD's dad tells everyone he is specialised in "Rocket Science"

We is a missile engineer so kind of correct but he does think he knows everything...!!

mave · 09/06/2017 21:24

He knows more than me (or at least I pretend he does!!) He's awful at DIY though but still thinks he can drill lots of holes in walls and says I know what I'm doing........😵

andbabymakesthree · 09/06/2017 21:27

My dad always thinks he is right but sadly it causes family feuds. Exhausting!

sophiecowling · 09/06/2017 22:07

My dad knows everything about everything. So lucky to have him in the end of the phone when I'm in a pickle.

marymanc · 09/06/2017 22:59

My husband is very honest and when the children ask him something he is not worried to say 'I don't know'. My dad, on the other hand, seems to know everything and gets really uptight if you contradict him.

KarenCBC · 09/06/2017 23:03

My husband thinks he knows everything and to be fair he usually does. We did have one incident where we ordered a new washing machine. I asked several times if he was certain that it would fit in the assigned space in the kitchen. He claimed he had and basically made out that I was being a nagging fishwife. However, when it arrived it DID NOT FIT! That's not the worst bit though. A few days later when I was out he sawed up the kitchen cabinets so that it would (instead of just returning it!!!). So now the doors are too big, one draw is missing and we need a new kitchen! Aggghhhhh!!! :-)

fivekidsonemum · 10/06/2017 01:06

My children's dad thinks he is a D.I.Y expert and he is good at some things but no matter if I tell him "a square is a square" he'd argue it was a circle just to try and be right. The amount of times I've said "Don't try and fix that, it still works, you'll make it worse" and surprise surprise the item ends up totally unusable Hmm Why I bought him a tool kit for Father's Day last year I don't know haha

Coneheadmum · 10/06/2017 04:13

DH is an anorak. He can point out the window in the sky at a plane and say "I do believe that's UA101 Manchester-Dulles. Would love a Google Home to confirm or call bs right away.

Realitea · 10/06/2017 08:50

My dad claims to know it all! If we go anywhere (including places abroad we've never even been to) he turns in to a tour guide, giving long descriptions of the history of wherever we are. Of course when googling after the 'tour' I find that he is always way out with his facts.
I used to think he was a genius but now I'm older I know the truth!
