Featuring a strong and spirited hero, Disney’s new film, Moana, is now available to watch as often and as many times as your DC likes, without having to worry about your proximity to a DVD player. So, inspired by Moana herself, and to celebrate the digital release of new film, Disney want to hear about the strong heroines who inspire your DCs.

Disney has said: “Did you know you can already download and keep Disney’s Moana from a variety of digital stores including Sky Store and iTunes. With great music, lots of laughs and a kick-ass heroine, Moana is a great movie for the whole family and will get you in the mood for summer. You can enjoy it on TV with the family or take it with you on your phone, tablet, laptop to keep the kids entertained while you are all out and about. The Blu-ray ™ and DVD are available on Monday 3rd April.”

Now Disney want to hear about the kick-ass heroines in your lives. Maybe it’s a teacher, a friend, a celebrity or - obvious choice - their Mum! From the everyday, to the extraordinary, anyone can be a heroine, so ask your DCs about the strong women in their lives and see who they come up with.

Everyone who posts their DCs answers on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw for one of five surprise Disney toy sets or a £250 iTunes voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

My DC said that the strongest woman she knew was her "mummy", she explained that her mummy feeds her and gives her baths and makes her favourite soup when she has the "sniffles". She is very young still so was very sweet when she came out with this!!! Makes me so glad that she acknowledges me and appreciates what I do!! :-) x

Apparently, "Mummy is REALLY strong because she can hold on to Thor and Xena's leads when they're excited to get to the woods."

My yoga teacher is my female hero. Just turned 70, she's a feisty beast and can do a better handstand than a room of 30 year olds. She's given me so much and I love her.

emmav6 · 01/04/2017 18:58

my son chose his 18 month old little sister.....she is strong & VERY stubborn even at hr age she is the boss of our house!

farhanac · 01/04/2017 18:59

Her mum and her teacher

twinklenicci · 01/04/2017 21:01

my children have a few strong female role models. I have my own mother (their grandma) and two sisters who they see all the time. My Mum is really strong, she has over come a lot . Looking after my eldest sister who has epilepsy and slight brain damage from lack of oxygen when she had her first fit at 2. My Mum has been a full time mum since then. She is amazing and the best role model ever

towser44 · 01/04/2017 21:38

Our DC is all for Nanna, she has her wrapped around her little finger!

Another Moana fan here! My 4 year old son absolutely loves this film, & the titular character! We had the soundtrack in the car for several months so I was humming the tunes at work :)
I love that his favourite film has a women at the fore - he had started to be very boy-centric at the moment, only wanting to play with boys at nursery, etc - so it was really refreshing to see him start to recognise that girls are just as cool & kick-ass as boys!

If it is to be someone I know then I would say my mum, she has endured much trauma in her life yet still carries on with a smile and a kindness like nothing I have ever known, she would do anything for anyone and nobody would say a bad word about her. If I were to look elsewhere I think Katie Piper is pretty amazing, she has endured a horrific acid attack and has come back fighting, and using her experiences to highlight how others can fight back against problems in their lives, I think she is an inspiration to everyone.

moosexxx · 01/04/2017 22:50

I asked my boys.
The youngest chose Princess Leia, and the eldest choose Cleopatra!

beckyinman · 02/04/2017 00:09

My nanna was pretty sassy - she used to be the landlady of a pub, so didn't take any nonsense, taught us how to cook and how to shout obscenities at drivers. My mum was only pleased about some of those skills!

DD loves Anna and Elsa! They're a symbol of female power - they don't need no man! :D They've got each other, and they're strong, smart and independent.

My daughter's role model is the gymnast Simone Biles. She adores gymnastics and Simone is her inspiration. The way she doesn't give up or gets back up when she falls over. Nothing stands in her way.

I asked my 5 year old son, Daniel, and this was his answer: "Amber is the strongest because she runs every day and runs marathons lots of times".

Amber (the one waving in the first pic) is my best friend - she is so strong, determined and fearless - she really is an inspiration!!! She is a beautiful person inside and out and I am lucky to have her as a friend.

My primary school teacher was a legend and always will be

AnnieHallScotland · 02/04/2017 12:39

My daughter has her great grandmother to look up to, who is now nearly 90.

The youngest of 12, some of whom died in childhood, her great grandma Ruby was the first in her family to go to university, all the other siblings worked to pay for her to go. After being told in university that she should would not find a job as a women (she was studying foreign languages and english) she ended up becoming the first female university lecturer in out city's university, raising three boys (a challenge on its own) and travelling the world, learning more languages. She is a strong, intelligent and kind great granny with lots of wonderful stories about making a career and happy life for herself at a time when women were not given these sort of opportunities and I can't wait to re-tell these stories throughout my daughter's life (currently she is age 3 and needless to say has my granny and her great granny's name as her middle name :) )

(Me, my daughter and son all loved Moana!)

izbiz1988 · 02/04/2017 12:49

We love Moana!! Such a great film :)

I asked my eldest DC who the strong women in her life were and she said me Blush, because I never stop or give up and I always put her and her sister first no matter what :) How sweet!

cluckyhen · 02/04/2017 14:59

Mine is the lady who kindly stepped in to be my mother figure after my parents walked away. She has taken me on and supported me and the kids just as much as any parent, even dropping everything to be there for us when she was battling a huge fight. She is my idol

feefeegabor · 02/04/2017 16:04

My daughter's hero is her first Teaching Assistant in Year 2. She had to change schools as we moved and being an only child, was always quiet and a little nervous. This lovely lady, Mrs Cauliflower (not her real name!) really took Sophie under her wing and gave her the part of Nancy in the School Play - Oliver Twist. It gave Sophie so much self confidence - I'll always be so grateful.

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 02/04/2017 16:08

DD said that I am her hero. That's fine by me. She finally appreciates that as the child of a single parent, she would have nothing if it wasn't for me.

So she finally realises that I work hard, and I save hard, and I pay for everything that she needs, and I take her on holidays, and she goes to lots of clubs etc.

My 4 year old DS thinks that his 5 year old DS is the best thing in the world. He really looks up to her and copies everything that she does.

Cataline · 02/04/2017 20:03

I LOVED Moana. It made me think of my Grandma who was -and is- my absolute heroine. I cried all the way through!
I have one DS who is 9 and I think he is lucky to have a family full of strong women to guide and inspire him. Me, my mum, my sisters, cousins and even my friends and their daughters. I think it's really important that he gets to interact, play with, be friends with, learn from, listen to and love a whole range of women and girls as he grows up.
I've just asked him who the strong women are in his life and why and he just pointed to me and said "You mum, I love you"
So I (tried not to cry and) asked him why he said that. He replied "Just because you always encourage me and try to help me and you love me and I know that"
So I'm a happy mummy and I'm glad he recognises that!

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/04/2017 20:28

My DDs have had such inspirational role models- my Grandmother, a Bletchley girl; my other Grandmother, extremely well-read and passionate about books and education; and DH's Grandmother, a headstrong woman who had fled Ireland with her baby so that she could keep her. All wonderfully strong, intelligent women, all sadly passed now, but we were so lucky to have them in our lives and my DDs know they are lucky to have known them.

RifRafia · 02/04/2017 20:39

My female role model is Lettuice Curtis. Not many would have heard of her-she was one of the first female aviators, and flew over 90 different aircraft, including many in WWII.

I have had a fulfilling career within the Royal Air Force for the last 16 years, and it is women like Lettuice who paved the way for women like me being able to do so. My children think what I do is really cool, so now I hope that I could also be a role model for the next generation.

Pesto37 · 02/04/2017 20:49

There are so many brilliant women for my daughter to admire; but I am going to particularly mention my friend who is a pilot and in her spare time does mountain rescue. Also my little sister who is a teacher and a loving parent. And her grannies - one a GP and one a midwife. She is a lucky wee junior pesto 😀
