Featuring a strong and spirited hero, Disney’s new film, Moana, is now available to watch as often and as many times as your DC likes, without having to worry about your proximity to a DVD player. So, inspired by Moana herself, and to celebrate the digital release of new film, Disney want to hear about the strong heroines who inspire your DCs.

Disney has said: “Did you know you can already download and keep Disney’s Moana from a variety of digital stores including Sky Store and iTunes. With great music, lots of laughs and a kick-ass heroine, Moana is a great movie for the whole family and will get you in the mood for summer. You can enjoy it on TV with the family or take it with you on your phone, tablet, laptop to keep the kids entertained while you are all out and about. The Blu-ray ™ and DVD are available on Monday 3rd April.”

Now Disney want to hear about the kick-ass heroines in your lives. Maybe it’s a teacher, a friend, a celebrity or - obvious choice - their Mum! From the everyday, to the extraordinary, anyone can be a heroine, so ask your DCs about the strong women in their lives and see who they come up with.

Everyone who posts their DCs answers on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw for one of five surprise Disney toy sets or a £250 iTunes voucher.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

My seven year old daughter said she loves her Nana Beryl because she is her Nana and will always be here because she is like a fairy princess with sparkly white hair and blue eyes and always has her sparkling slippers on.

Gwencooper81 · 29/03/2017 07:51

Dd1 said Nanny up in heaven as she was strong when she was poorly.

Dd2 said her teacher as she's always helpful and kind even when the naughty boys are shouting!
She added me as an afterthought!

starlight36 · 29/03/2017 07:56

My DD loves her teacher because not only does she know everything but she is able to teach it to all the clothes - even those who try not to learn it by being naughty. DD is 6.

Igneococcus · 29/03/2017 09:34

dd's (12) female heroes are here favourite authors, Tonke Dragt (Letter for the King) and a recent discovery Frances Hardinge (The Lie Tree).

Mine would be my great grandmother Klara, who raised my mum and her three siblings after their parents died of TB when my mum (the oldest of the 4) was 6.

mrsmortis · 29/03/2017 13:21

We've been reading 'Goodnight stories for rebel girls' as bedtime stories. My DD's (8) current heroine is Kathrine Johnson, the african american mathematician who is the lead character in Hidden Figures and is also in Goodnight stories. She was instrumental in calculating the trajectories of the Gemini and Apollo missions while living in a State in the US where segregation was still a fact of life. My daughter is space mad and wants to be an astronomer when she grows up and really sees her story as inspirational.

OhHolyFuck · 29/03/2017 16:14

Love love love moana! And so do my DSs! I love them seeing a kick ass Disney woman

In real life, I'm lucky that my kids have/had great teachers - ds2 has a really great nursery teacher who supports his learning difficulties and last year DS1 had an nqt who was so enthusiastic and really brought him on in leaps and bounds, I'm chuffed ds2 gets her in September

claza93 · 29/03/2017 19:21

My younger two say Ariel, she is feisty, determined and a red head just like their mum!!
My eldesy admires Hermonie in Harry Potter as she is studious but also incredibly passionate about her friends.

Gill81uk · 29/03/2017 21:14

My almost 7 year old says his Great Gran. She was almost 95 when she died, virtually blind through glaucoma but loved to see him and his sister and always had little treats in for them when they visited.

mummymummums · 29/03/2017 21:45

My DC both said me! They said it's because I do everything for everyone. This is because I work 25 hours a week, look after and help both my parents with progressive illnesses, always offer and give help to people or the school when volunteers needed, have their friends round regularly, and take both DC out somewhere nice every weekend. The thing is if my life ever does slow down I feel a bit lost! Grin

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 29/03/2017 22:26

My daughter is a big Moana fan. We play Moana most nights. Weirdly her strong female character isnt Moana but the goddess Te Fiti. "She created the world, she's as big as an island and when she's cross she's a lava monster." Put like that i can see her point. I only wish i didn't always end up having to play being Maoi.
And Disney, any chance of you starting to sell a te fiti costume? She is having a Moana themed 5th birthday but DD wants to be the goddess and i'm not exactly a creative genius with costume making. I cant find anything but moana dressing up online.

purplepandas · 29/03/2017 22:44

Both said my Mum which is lovely!

theresamustgo · 29/03/2017 22:54

Sylvuappia Pankhurst, DD is insistent it is the communist one. And Rosa Luxemburg.

Dixiestamp · 30/03/2017 01:47

My Mum is our heroine. She's in her late 60s and still works part time and does a wide range of volunteer work in the community. I have a range of chronic illnesses and she steps in to look after my DC at the drop of a hat. She's fit, active and outgoing and a positive role model for the kind of person I want them to be.

Lariflete · 30/03/2017 08:30

DD (5) said Wonder Woman and Grace Darling. Wonder Woman because she's 'magic' and Grace Darling because she went out in a rowing boat in the middle of the night with her father and saved lots of lives.

DS (3) says me, Nan and Mrs Bell (his nursery teacher)!

Belmo · 30/03/2017 10:54

My 5yo dd's heros are her two grannies Smile She adores them and asks to text them every day!

asuwere · 30/03/2017 13:26

I asked my DC this yesterday and the unanimous answer was "no-one" Blush Hmm
DS1 and DS2 watched Moana last night at a club and they both loved it, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

FairytalesAreBullshit · 30/03/2017 18:11

A hero in all our lives is DC's Great Nan, who is quite old but still going strong. I'm unwell so she helps out quite a lot, she does things the old fashioned way, something about her means they'll put down gadgets to bake, to look through old photo albums, to do a variety of different things.

She's all our hero because she doesn't let anything hold her back, she instilled in me, resilience to get through everything and anything no matter what. She's a true matriarch, the head of the family.

Pillowaddict · 30/03/2017 18:56

We love the soundtrack! My dc said mummy - because I can carry everyone (!?) and because I'm a mother!

theresamustgo · 30/03/2017 23:50

That should have been Sylvia Pankhurst!

daisyduke66 · 31/03/2017 00:19

It has to be my mum for mine - their Nanna- she was a primary teacher all her life and was a huge influence in their lives from tiny and onwards. A true matriarch!

Megansmumsie · 31/03/2017 00:38

I don't want to toot my own horn but my daughter always says i am- i kinda totally love that in a completely narcissistic way and i don't even care!

I started home educating my daughter just over a year ago, she loves that we learn at home, in museums, galleries etc. I went to uni and got my degree- i did half of it after i had my daughter, she really admires perseverance so she loves that! I juggle a artistic and academic personality, she shares this with me. We share a complete and utter love of books!!

She also completely admires some of her favourite authors like Abi Elphinstone, Emma Carroll, Cressida Cowell, J K Rowling, Enid Blyton, Francesca Simon, Holly Smale, Cathy Cassidy and the fabulous Sarah McIntyre. She's a big book buff and all of these women give her tremendous confidence in joining the list herself one day!!

defineme · 31/03/2017 08:10

Dd, age 12, immediately said Helen Skelton, the ex Blue Peter presenter who canoed down the entire Amazon and lots of other amazing adventurous stuff that dd would like to do too!

MiddleClassProblem · 31/03/2017 09:12

DD is only 2 and not at nursery. I hope/think she sees me as a hero with how she needs me or responds when hurt or scared. But I hope when she is older and can understand my life and the things that have happened to me then she might respect me in a different way. I hope I show her what a strong woman is like from practical skills like diy, cooking etc to social and emotional skills.

CMOTDibbler · 31/03/2017 09:53

DS says its me Blush. I do challenge myself - did a marathon last year, have done some triathlons, and am doing more open water swimming this year (very excited to have entered a mass event in the Serpentine). I'm also a physicist, so lots of stereotypes get challenged here

Alexandra87 · 31/03/2017 10:26

My eldest son (6) said j k Rowling is a hero because 'she was just a mammy making up a bedtime story and now we have harry potter' he's quite a big Harry Potter fan
