Co-op wants to know how you would make your mother’s day? - £300 voucher to be won NOW CLOSED

To celebrate Mother’s Day, Co-op wants to find out what would make your mother’s day this coming Sunday. Maybe she’s a Mum with simple tastes, and a card or bunch of flowers will suffice to make her really happy? Or perhaps you’re going all out this year, inviting her around for a meal and a day spent with the family. If you’re taking a more creative approach, perhaps you’ll be making her gifts by yourself, or just planning a day together for some one-on-one time with you - maybe brunch and the cinema? As a mum, tell us what would make your day extra special?

Here’s what Co-op has to say: “This Mother’s Day we want everyone to think about their mum and how to make it really personal and special to her. To not only buy the usual expected mother’s day gifts, but to really think about what makes your mum happy. Because only when you really know your mum can you really make it her day.”

Whatever it is that you’re going to do to make your mother’s day really special, Co-op wants to know. Please share your thoughts below - everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw and one MNer will win a £300 Co-op vouchers.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

We made Mum's day by all getting together for a family lunch, and having a drive over the moors, followed by ice cream and a trip to a local beach followed by a cream tea.

She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all the family and getting out of the house for the day.

My mum loves gardening and being with her family. We cooked her lunch and then took her to Haskins, to treat her to afternoon tea and an Orchid.

I do not live close to my mum so didn't see her on Mother's Day but we are all going away together in June so will have plenty of quality time together then.

My Mum was a person that didn't like too much fuss. A nice card and some chocolates, a new book or supermarket flowers were her favourite. She loved flowers but hated having then sent through a florist because of the huge markup. She would never have wanted a lot spent on her.

My son phoned me!!! Not particularly unusual for most, but he is at Uni, and I really really didnt expect it. It meant the world to me

I always get taken to a cathedral with my daughter. We go to a different one every year

vcoxee · 02/04/2017 19:34

A lovely cooked meal and time to read a nice book quietly without any disruption!

My Mum has had to move into a care home in the last year. I took her some hyacinths which smell glorious, but one of the things that she misses most about losing her independence is decent coffee.

She likes cappuccino and used to love meeting friends in a coffee shop to catch up on local news gossip . It's been hard for her now that she can no longer go, but fortunately the co-op around the corner has a coffee machine. It's not the full barista brew, but a big improvement on the home's usual drink. Mum finds it a real treat!

For me it's a chance to get dressed up and go out for a lovely meal after a day spent with my family in the countryside playing and walking.

A lie in and a lovely home made card :)

sootyo · 02/04/2017 20:32

Flowers and chocolates.

bugzie92 · 02/04/2017 20:54

I live 150 miles away from my mum. This mothers day I got a bouquet of flowers delivered to her in the morning, then me and my son had an almighty face time session with her. Although we couldn't be there, I know it made her happy.

As I am the master planner in our house, it was lovely to have a day where I didn't plan a thing! I was whisked off to the local beach for the day, drank Prosecco on the sand in the sunshine, and finished the day off with homemade steak pies. Delicious!

rhinosuze · 02/04/2017 21:05

I really just wanted a card, cuddle and nice day and its exactly what I got

mave · 02/04/2017 21:26

A lie in, breakfast in bed and homemade cards! Bliss!

pfcpompeysarah · 02/04/2017 21:53

We make my mum a card rather than buying her one (she keeps every one in a drawer in her room because she absolutely treasures them) and we make her some cakes or biscuits and take them round, its much better and more thoughtful than picking out some flowers for her (although the flowers last longer than the cakes!). We also tend to go to a country pub for a meal or a nice leisurely drink in the pub garden if the weather is good enough.

phillie1 · 03/04/2017 08:57

Kids didnt argue for whole day would make a nice treat

finleypop · 03/04/2017 09:05

I think a plant for the garden as it lasts so much longer than chocolates or cut flowers

sofieellis · 03/04/2017 10:51

My Mother's Day was fabulous as my DS2 turned up unexpectedly from uni to surprise me. It was wonderful.

My Mum just loves being surrounded by family, so we both had a great day.

southernsun · 03/04/2017 11:06

We always make homemade gifts as its more personal and takes more effort (plus its more fun to do)

littlemonkeyz · 03/04/2017 11:42

I helped my mum in her garden. She lives for her garden but she is struggling to keep on top of things now that she is a full time carer so she appreciates a little help sometimes (although she's still the boss and I always get assigned to the weeding)

Dessallara · 03/04/2017 12:09

My mother's day was perfect. We had a big family picnic in the park with games, kite, lovely food :)

NerrSnerr · 03/04/2017 12:26

My Mother's Day was lovely, I am heavily pregnant and have a 2 year old. We had a picnic in the morning and then spent the afternoon cuddled up watching Stick Man on telly.

Laurenboyle22 · 03/04/2017 12:52

I would simply spend the day with her, quality time together it wouldn't matter what we were doing. I would also buy her a card and flowers :)

jhill11 · 03/04/2017 12:57

This year we haven't got a great deal of money as we've just had a new baby! So no meals out/ expensive gifts! She's not long had a hip operation so can't get around a great deal anyway.... my son came up with a great idea of taking round a bag of her favourite foods! So we will pack cheese and onion cobs, big bags of ready salted crisps, a bag of Murray mints & a bottle of lime juice..... and we will watch her favourite film..... Mary popping! Along with homemade cards :)
