Hello, hello, hello… It is I, Count Olaf – guardian of the Baudelaire orphans Violet, Klaus and Sunny, and magnificent and respected theatre performer.

Violet is the eldest; she is followed by Klaus, and then Sunny, who is an infant. I have provided these lucky orphans with a rat-infested room - including a complementary pile of rocks at no cost to them, and shampoo that encourages tears - and I believe, therefore, that I am quite justified in asking them to do a range of minor chores for me in return.

My list includes:

  • Keep the kitchen gleamingly clean
  • Keep the library well dusted
  • Polish the floors in the ballroom
  • Hang my undergarments in the laundry room after they've washed them
  • Weed, mow, and preen the gardens
  • Chop wood in the back yard

Alas, these wealthy brats have been utterly spoilt! They've never done a chore in their lives, and therefore believe that I am BU to ask them to carry out such tasks - which is why, my adoring MNer fans, I wish to ask you: which chores you wish you could ask your DCs to do?

I feel your anguish having to spend more time with your DCs since it’s half term, so what chores do you wish you could ask your DCs to do during half term? Would you like your moody teenager to be able to whip up a Michelin star meal? Or your toddler to not only put away their toys, but also hoover the lounge? Whether it’s something small like wanting your DCs to do the washing up or make their own beds, or something more elaborate like wishing they would Marie Kondo your wardrobe or build you a garden retreat, tell me, Count Olaf - and I will reward one of you with a £300 voucher.

Yours most handsomely,

Count Olaf

1.Do all the cooking without leaving a mess and clean dishes afterwards
2.polish, Mop Hoover all the house

  1. Walk the dogs
  2. Bath the dogs
5.clean the bathroom 6.Do all washing and ironing

But seems I have got no chance just to keep the house clean and clean there bedrooms and take the bins out I would just settle for that

MakeTeaNotWar · 11/02/2017 16:50

I long for when the are old enough to make me cups of tea, to do dinner and to change beds. Oh and to mow the lawn too.

Lisapaige24 · 11/02/2017 16:53

Do all the household chores
Cooking
Hoovering
Dusting
Brush and mop floors
washing and ironing
Dishes

But seems I have no chance just keeping the house clean and cleaning there rooms and putting the bins out would Make me happy

Dizzyc73 · 11/02/2017 17:04

I would love for my little'uns to just be able to tidy up after themselves, I'm not asking for much am I? But in an ideal world I'd also like them to work out how to use a hoover, know how to clean a bath and be able to cook a tasty meal for tea! Maybe one day when they are older....although Ive been told they get lazier in their teens lol

littlemonkeyz · 11/02/2017 17:16

Wave to the minions, polish my tiara and take my Corgis for a walk

beckyinman · 11/02/2017 17:29

When I was about 10 my dad told me doing the ironing was really fun so I was super keen to do it. It was too late by the time I realised he was lying! I might do the same trick

AngelwingsPetlamb · 11/02/2017 17:44

It has to be my worst job of all time - clean the oven ! ( cruel mummy )

MorningHeavyWeight · 11/02/2017 17:49

I'd settle for him potty training himself and taking responsibility for his own bedtimes.

workingmumsarebad · 11/02/2017 17:53

I am a single mum:

Now if my DCs ( who are pretty good aorund the house ) could:

get up and get their own breakfast
make me a cup of tea
clean their teeth

then I need them to plan the year;
go on line book me a dream holiday
find me a date
sort out child care for the year
book and pay for all activities

cook me steak done medium, with crispy onions a baked potato and salad ur me a glass of red wine

Oh and not make a sound all day that starts with "Mum......"

farhanac · 11/02/2017 17:56

Would breakfast in bed be too much to ask for?

grumpymummy3 · 11/02/2017 18:06

Clean the oven - I really hate that job
Hoover the stairs
And clean the bathroom especially the wee they leave everywhere.

monkeysox · 11/02/2017 18:15

Massage me feet and give me pedicures 😂 Blush

bugzie92 · 11/02/2017 18:33

Oh how I wish I could get some assistance with chores!
I wish I could have my DC help with putting the clothes away, I HATE that job with a passion. Especially when my dear son decides he shall trample through my piles I had just made a few minutes prior! Another one - ironing! oh how I detest ironing! I suspect DC would do a better job at ironing then I ever could! Oh, and I wish DC could do the mammoth chore of shifting this broken washing machine out of the house! Could definitely earn some adult-worthy muscles with that! Smile

debbiew21 · 11/02/2017 18:38

I wish mine would grasp the basic idea that the house doesn't clean itself. I include their father in this. Need I say more?!

feefeegabor · 11/02/2017 18:54

Count Olaf, could you give me some tips to "encourage" my daughter to tidy her room?

HelenPlant · 11/02/2017 18:56

Do the ironing. I hate it - it is my most loathed chore.

Flapdoodles · 11/02/2017 19:19

To put away everything they have used - not just their toys and books, but put spoons in the dishwasher and packaging in the bin. I would also like them to tidy their rooms without me constantly having to tell them to do it!

goingmadinthecountry · 11/02/2017 19:22

The boring stuff - I teach so it gets left until holidays. Clean behind radiators, hoover under beds (they are shorter than me so should be their job), clear 212 empty shampoo bottles from their bathroom.

emmmaaa26 · 11/02/2017 19:35

Clean the oven, scrub the toilet lol the tasks that everyone hates.

tinselknickers · 11/02/2017 19:43

Well Count Olaf, my name is King Olaf and I'm afraid I outrank you.

I am a Norwegian Forest kitten and I'm not too proud to do my own chores including peeling potatoes and fruit, typing the odd email, and laying (on) fires.

I will spend my voucher on catnip and feathery toys.

Must go, I feel a cat nap coming on.

Ha det!

😽

I wish I could get her to throw some old stuff away she is already a hoarder

arat · 11/02/2017 20:49

It could be a very long list! But to keep it brief, I'd start with getting DCs to empty the bins and sort out the recycling.

They would obviously have to alternate the chores between the two of them to make sure "it's fair"!

purplepandas · 11/02/2017 20:50

Tidy up after themselves. Sounds so easy!

lhlee62 · 11/02/2017 21:57

Cook, clean, tidy and wait on mummy hand and foot would be nice only all the things I have done for them since they came into existence!

duploinmyteaagain · 11/02/2017 21:58

ooh, where do I start?
Tackle Mount Washmore, the neverending pile of stinky washing in my room, clean under the fridge (never happens anymore now I have a toddler !), remove his sticky paw prints from the windows and mirrors around the house.
