The Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate, Part II. £300 voucher to be won! NOW CLOSED

To celebrate Fairy Non Bio’s sponsorship of the Mumsnet Talk App, we’ve launched The Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate - as with all great Wink series, it's a three-parter. Part I was all about how often you wash your bed sheets and part II is about how much you wash your bra...

Bra washing can not only be time consuming but can also require a bit of brain power. First there’s the conundrum of how to wash them, then there’s how often to wash them. Do you put them on a gentle hand-wash setting with a delicate detergent? Do you put them in a mesh bag to protect the straps from getting caught up with other items? Perhaps you only put them in a machine with other light clothing so the elastic doesn’t get stretched by towels and jeans? Or maybe you simply bung them in with everything and put them on a 40C wash? The options can make your brain hurt. So how often do you wash your bra? Are you the kind of person who can’t wear a bra more than once? Or maybe you can wear it for a week?

Whatever your bra-washing process, share it with Fairy Non Bio in the thread below, and maybe even give us a live update from the Mumsnet Talk App as you’re waiting for the load to finish. If you avidly check out Mumsnet's talk boards, you should download the app for yourself. It's free, and allows you to be part of the conversation wherever you are!

All those who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

My bras (and DD's) just got in with other undies on a 40 degree wash. No mesh bag, but I do make sure the bra is fastened.

I just chuck them in with everything else on a 40° wash, then tumble dry them in the winter and line dry in the summer. I don't wash them as often as I should (but have several bras so don't wear the same one two days running if it doesn't suit my outfit).

I wash mine with the bedding! I put them inside a pillow case, tie it up and bung in the middle of the load. I dry them on the line or an airer. I'm a bit gross though as I don't have many that fit well and tend to wear the same one for quite a while before washing it. My mother insists on only hand washing hers (worried about the wires catching in the drum of her machine) but I can't be doing with the faff of that!

I must have worn the same bra every day for the last 12 months and just throw it in with similar colours in the washing machine. Isn't that the normal thing to do?

Me too, in the usual wash every 2/3 days :)

Another "chuck them in with everything else" here. I don't even separate colours - laundry is pretty basic in my house.

I do use a mesh bag so it doesn't catch on the rest of my washing (and I can easily retrieve it if transferring the load to the drier!)

White bras go in with the whites, black in the regular wash. Probably get washed every few days.

I just throw mine in with everything else. Dry them outside if it's dry, on the horse inside if not. As for how often...maybe once a fortnight, more often if I've dropped chocolate crumbs into my cleavage.

Chuck mine in with similar colours. Only wash ooooh basically when I remember. On a bad week where time is passing quickly it could be a week. (I do wash pants daily!). In summer more often as her sweaty, prob every 3 days or straight in wash if it's actually been a swealtering day. About 3 times a summer.

Oh my, I didn't realise I should be washing my bras in a special way!?!
I just put mine in with the other washing, usually on 40 degrees.
Never thought about it really! :-/

Everything goes in on the same wash here too, i haven't time for separate washing. I used to use the mesh bags when washing breast pads though as they often got caught in the filter.

Everything here is washed on a 30C or 40C wash and as we have nice soft water in Scotland I don;t bother with separate fabric softener.

Mine just gets chucked in with the rest of the washing at 40, I wash them every other day

I've never thought to do anything different when washing bras so just bung them in with everything else on a 40 cycle. Wash them every few days.

Just throw them in!
I used to use a mesh bag, but they kept getting tangled up!

I've only got 2 sports type, so they go 3/4 days and in the normal wash, dry on our Ikea octopus.

I wash mine in with my little girls washing load. I do hers on a 30 degree wash with fairy non-bio and fairy fabric softener. I hang them to dry on racks afterwards.

Don't even know how often I wash mine. I've got one favourite that looks as if I've washed it 5 times a week for about a century. I do treat them to the mesh bag.

I soak for an evening in wool wash and warm water (to help get any milk, DS's dribble and my sweat out of them) then put in a mesh bag and wash on the woollens cycle in the machine with any other delicate or woollen items. I usually wear two a week.

I did one buy a special bra sized mesh bag for them to go in, so they wouldn't get tangled like they do in the big one but ever since I got pregnant and very busty, my bras don't fit in it! Now I use it for the nappy liners.

Mine just go in with everything else on a 30 or 40 wash.

Report
WingMirrorSpider · 26/11/2016 06:42

Mine just go in with similar colours at 40deg, then just over an airer or radiator to dry. But that's only because both of all my bras are very much of the sturdy, practical variety rather than the pretty lacy sort.

If only I had, say, £300 to spend I'd get myself down to Agent Provocateur and spend the lot on delicate unmentionables which I would hand wash with l'Occitane soap and dry using trained butterflies.

I wash mine weekly using fairy and fabric softener, i used to wash them on own but dont bother now.

I rarely wear one. When I occasionally do they are just shoved in the general wash and tend to be that lovely grey white!

I just put my bras in with the normal wash, unfortunely not so much at the moment. I have two bras that fit as I'm pregnant so I rarely put them in the wash.
