To celebrate Fairy Non Bio’s sponsorship of the Mumsnet Talk App, we’ve launched The Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate - as with all great Wink series, it's a three-parter. Part I was all about how often you wash your bed sheets and part II is about how much you wash your bra...

Bra washing can not only be time consuming but can also require a bit of brain power. First there’s the conundrum of how to wash them, then there’s how often to wash them. Do you put them on a gentle hand-wash setting with a delicate detergent? Do you put them in a mesh bag to protect the straps from getting caught up with other items? Perhaps you only put them in a machine with other light clothing so the elastic doesn’t get stretched by towels and jeans? Or maybe you simply bung them in with everything and put them on a 40C wash? The options can make your brain hurt. So how often do you wash your bra? Are you the kind of person who can’t wear a bra more than once? Or maybe you can wear it for a week?

Whatever your bra-washing process, share it with Fairy Non Bio in the thread below, and maybe even give us a live update from the Mumsnet Talk App as you’re waiting for the load to finish. If you avidly check out Mumsnet's talk boards, you should download the app for yourself. It's free, and allows you to be part of the conversation wherever you are!

All those who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

I put mine in about every third wear with the normal load. I use a mesh bag and the usual detergent. Never tumble dry though.

Blumkin · 24/11/2016 19:56

What? Underwear is supposed to be handwashed?! Or put in a mesh bag? Never knew that. Always just bung my bras in the washing machine and they survive fine.

JulesJules · 24/11/2016 19:57

I wash mine in a mesh bag (to protect the washing machine from possible damage if the underwires escaped). I wash on the handwash cycle at 30 degrees and then dry on the clothes horse. I wash them every few days.

Mybeautifullife1 · 24/11/2016 19:57

I hand wash them if they're the "delicate" type. For my not so delicate delicates I wait until I have a few, make sure they're fastened at the back, and then wash them in the washing machine on a quick wash of about 15 minutes. This seems to stop the wires getting damaged.

itshappenedagain · 24/11/2016 20:17

I wash bras on a delicates cycle with my usual detergent, they go inside s pillowcase...more to save my washing machine from the wires.
As I only wear anything once before it's washed I have lots of bras and they cost a fortune so need to look after them.

ILikeBigBumpsAndICannotLie · 24/11/2016 20:32

I have a bra bag which I always forget about, and then just sling them fastened in a 30 wash and hope for the best. My one R&P bra is hand-washed though and it doesn't get worn often enough because of that.

Never dry them on a heater though as that melts the plastic on the underwire and it pops out.

ChocolateForAll · 24/11/2016 20:33

I've heard a salad spinner is good for bras! Mine get thrown in with everything else, probably not as often as they should....

MakeTeaNotWar · 24/11/2016 20:52

I seem to rotate between the same two bras even though I own lots more but these two are the comfy ones. They just get chucked in the wash when I remember - I shower every day and am not a sweater so they get worn lots before they are washed Blush

SaladDressing · 24/11/2016 21:02

No special bra treatment here I'm afraid Blush.

They go in the normal 40' wash with clothes of a similar colour. I tend to buy sets of one bra and two pairs of matching pants so they are washed after 2 wears.

nikkiwg · 24/11/2016 21:26

Life's too short - they get shoved in with everything else!! :)

foxessocks · 24/11/2016 21:35

Mine just go in with normal wash but to be fair my bras at the moment are all maternity sleep bras like crop tops as I couldn't find a maternity bra in my size I'm too small chested Humph.

Anononoo · 24/11/2016 21:39

Barely ever. Well in general wash after 3 or 4 wears or so. Horrid my bras are.

Sleeplessinmybedroom · 24/11/2016 21:49

Before Asda started selling larger size bras I had to spend a fortune on bras to fit my massive boobs. These were hand washed carefully and left to air dry. Now I chuck my bras in with the rest of the washing and also tumble dry them or line dry in nice weather. I'm in the process of losing weight so only have two bras at the moment which get worn for a couple of days at a time.

WowOoo · 24/11/2016 21:56

I put mine in a mesh bag and do them on gentle mode. Never more than 30. I don't wash them after every use like some people unless it's a sports bra or I've been particularly sweaty.

HamletsSister · 24/11/2016 21:58

About every 3-4 days and just chucked in with whatever colour / whites was it needs. Dried hanging on a rack, not tumbled. But, I buy 2-3 bras twice a year fairly cheaply and replace them. I am not the queen of silk and twiddly bits. My bras are for holding stuff, not decoration.

Haffdonga · 24/11/2016 22:19

Like most here it seems - bras go in with everything else every 3 to 4 days.

marriednotdead · 24/11/2016 22:49

Blimey, looks like I'm the only one who hand washes mine!

Only wear them once and then it's rinsed out in the shower or soaked in the bath after I've got out.

To be fair, they're too expensive for me to risk wrecking in the machine, I'm not a supermarket size. I see the evidence regularly at work when people bring them back with the hooks bent/wires out, they're labelled hand wash for a reason but until it happens to them, no one believes it will.

PickAChew · 24/11/2016 22:59

I just fasten mine and out them on the delicates setting with some ecover. Method if I've been a bit sweaty! I don't wash anything else with them and have had no casualties yet, apart from one which was ancient, anyhow and one of the hooks bust.

Usually after about 2 days wear. Less I've I've been sweaty. Any more and they sag a bit too much.

Andbabymakesthree · 25/11/2016 04:44

Current non wired maternity bras go in normal white wash.

Wired ones go in separately on a 15min quick wash. Wash every 2-3 days.

BabyGanoush · 25/11/2016 06:49

Put them in a pillow case, put knot in pillow case

Wash at 40

Done!

Fleck · 25/11/2016 06:52

I wash every 3-4 wears or more often if it's very hot and I get sweaty. I just bung them in with everything else on 40, I don't tumble them though. Once upon a time I had beautiful underwear sets worthy of hand washing but not any more!

vegmum21 · 25/11/2016 08:38

I wash them every few days in a regular wash with similar colours. I don't really spend a lot on bras though so if they were more expensive I would probably hand wash them.

hairypaws · 25/11/2016 08:43

I mainly wear genie bras and just chuck them in the normal wash, every couple of days. I usually tumble dry too. Normal bras get chucked in too on the rare occasion I wear them, usually for a night out.

Mrsmonkeymoo1 · 25/11/2016 10:36

Lazy mare here - I just throw mine in with normal wash - I never wear anything fancy so to be honest not bothered x if I won the voucher would like some matching underwear lol

sharond101 · 25/11/2016 10:41

2-3 days wear them in the wash with all other washing😯
