For many of us, there’s nothing more important than family. Nationwide have launched a new campaign where ordinary people tell us what’s important to them. Here, poet and mum Hollie McNish describes how her family makes her feel in her poem ‘Little Things’.

Nationwide would love you to watch Hollie below and tell them what feelings and memories the poem stirs up about your own family. They’d love to hear about the moments in your own DC’s lives that you will treasure forever.

Here’s what Nationwide has to say: “At Nationwide our members have a voice. For many of us, there's nothing more valuable than family. In this poem, 'Little Things', poet and mum Hollie McNish says it all better than we ever could.”

So, what “little things” about your family will you always treasure? If you were talking to your DC, what would you tell them about the things that they do and how it makes you feel?

Everyone who posts a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

The smiling face my 4yo daughter makes when she sees me standing outside her classroom after a long day of school. And the tight squeeze that follows Grin

My favourite moment is when DD2 was 5 months old. She was in her bouncer and dd1, then 22 months, was leaning over her chattering away. DD2 grabbed her hair and started giggling. She wouldn't let go and they both started full on chuckling. The laughter was the best noise I've ever heard. She didn't let go for a couple of minutes, the whole time they both laughed and laughed. I managed to record some of it. Happy, happy days.

I love it when we laugh together. Our eyes meet, we know we're being silly and we know we're thinking the same thing. Pure love ❤️

I love the way my son sees the world. He is always discovering something new and has so much enthusiasm for life. He teaches me to see things differently.

There is so much I love. Today I loved it when DS (3), looked at something and I could see him thinking. After about 10 long seconds he formulated a question. It was beautiful to see him trying to process the world and try to formulate a question.

the little fat legs kicking on the changing mat, then those sturdy legs toddling away from me - running or falling hard to tell and now as we walk to school watching one pair of still sturdy legs run to catch up with one pair of longer legs encased in grown up tights and boots walking off to school.

The memories I remember the first few hours after birth looking and inspecting every inch of you thinking what kind of personality you will have watching you sleep. Love the newborn feeling every mum gets after birth.

The first moment I looked at my son I remember thinking he was perfect, little did I know that he was to be diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. 2 years down the line he is still perfect and every small milestone he achieves, no matter how small, is huge to us. At the moment he is learning Makaton and every sign he learns seems magical, he may not speak but for the time being he has a voice.

I will never forgot the moment i laid eyes on DD. She took my breath away - so utterly gorgeous with the biggest eyes.

I love to just watch her when she doesn't realise. She is hilarious, intelligent, kind and imaginative. And another who pops in when she's asleep to see her peaceful face.

The moment she slips her hand in mine or rests her cheek against mine, when she says "I love you mama", the ways she runs ahead pigtails flying, I treasure it all.

So, what “little things” about your family will you always treasure?

I love the honesty of my 2 kids, from selling things like 'mummy, why is your skin too big for your bones?' to 'mummy, you don't need lipstick on, you are beautiful as you are'

I would tell my kids that it's the little things that matter so much, the little things I will treasure. From their first little giggles, to their first words, to saying 'maffis' instead of 'massive', to telling me that my skin is too big for my bones. Moments to treasure.

I loved the poem by the way :-)

lifeIsGhoulish tears!!!!

Every night I look in on them before I go to bed. Tuck them in, rearrange teddies, remove books. I gaze at them and make peace with myself if I've not responded very well to the challenges of the day. Tell them I love them and wonder how they've grown so much.

The moment I brought my dd home from hospital to meet my son, he had been insistent he was having a sister but we couldn't find out. When I came through the door he asked what is she called. And sat holding her singing to her for over an hour. They're still really close now at 10 and 6. It makes me proud everyday that they look out for each other so much.

I'm another one who likes watching them when they're asleep. It's so peaceful and makes me feel happy before I go to bed myself. They also look really alike, which isn't always so obvious when they're running around doing their own thing during the day.

His unconditional love, he always seems to know the exact moment when I need one of his squishy, tight, warm, hugs....then I know everything is alright and everything is going to be okay because my whole world is him!

I know it sounds cliche but I treasure everything. From the first sights to touch to smell. Everything they say. I already miss and pine for their baby words and saying things all wrong. Their cheeky and naughty moments.

I loved that no matter how difficult my son was with me, he was always polite and lovely with other people! Holding doors for people, anticipating when they needed help. He was even beautifully polite with the ratty woman in the local shop!
