For many of us, there’s nothing more important than family. Nationwide have launched a new campaign where ordinary people tell us what’s important to them. Here, poet and mum Hollie McNish describes how her family makes her feel in her poem ‘Little Things’.

Nationwide would love you to watch Hollie below and tell them what feelings and memories the poem stirs up about your own family. They’d love to hear about the moments in your own DC’s lives that you will treasure forever.

Here’s what Nationwide has to say: “At Nationwide our members have a voice. For many of us, there's nothing more valuable than family. In this poem, 'Little Things', poet and mum Hollie McNish says it all better than we ever could.”

So, what “little things” about your family will you always treasure? If you were talking to your DC, what would you tell them about the things that they do and how it makes you feel?

Everyone who posts a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck,
MNHQ

Aw, that's sweet. I felt the same way when DS was placed in my arms. There are little things he does - beaming smiles, cheeky giggles, calling me 'Ama', that make my heart melt every day. I can't pick one most special moment, but watching him sleep soundly after a busy day is amazing. I always feel a rush of love when I watch him sleep Smile

I think there is nothing, nor has there been anything nicer, than seeing my son asleep in his bed or cot when he was a baby, that look of contentment on their face is just the loveliest thing, I also love the little gestures he does, such as spending some of his money on a school trip on a gift for me like a pen, rather than something for himself, that's when I know I am doing things right.

I treasure absolutely everything all their firsts are just amazing and their unhindered, simple outlook on life is infectious.

I will treasure their 'firsts'!

I try and get lots of pictures of things so I can remember back to them all.

I'm in awe of her curiosity. One of her favourite things to do in a new place is to say to me "mummy lets go and explore". She's so eager to learn new things and very sociable too.

My 8 year old son is profoundly autistic & still non verbal. He hums songs, babbles & attempts the odd word but that's it. One time, I was stood in the kitchen & he wandered in humming to himself. I knelt down next to him & said "hey mr. I love you" & he said, as clear as day, "I love you". I was utterly shocked & said it again "I love you" & he said the same thing!! I just burst into tears & still get super emotional talking about it. It was an amazing moment & one that I will always treasure. He's never said it since & I was told by the experts that it was "echolalia" where they just echo what you've said. I don't care. To me, he said "I love you". I'll never take his little voice for granted. Occasionally he will say things & they're just treasured moments

I love the fact that my daughter is so caring. She sees the world in a totally different way to most people. She always see the good in everything.

I like it when I tiptoe in to check on them before I go to bed. I always pause for a moment and just watch them and listen to the sound of them breathing.

When we are walking somewhere and my DC decide to hold hands for no apparent reason and without being asked to do so. It just makes me smile and feel warm. I want my DC to be great friends and to depend on each other.

I treasure every moment as we waited so long for our first and only born to come along, but when you are told by his reception teacher he is a credit to you and a delight to have in the class, I treasure above all his manners, love and respect

For both of mine, daughter's 8 and Son is 5....it's that they still have habots from when they were babies that make my heart melt a little x
Gracie still likes to snuggle after a bath and twiddle a little bit on the side of my hair, & Henry likes to cuddle up and gently scratch the back of my neck

I love seeing the pride on my little one's face when we praise him for doing something well - sharing, having good manners, drawing, etc. You can literally see his little chest puff out & he does a shy little smile as he pulls his chin down & looks up at you - gorgeous!! At the end of every day, I am exhausted & my patience is tried in every way possible, but the love I feel for him is boundless & I thank the stars above every single day that he is my healthy, curious, funny, willful, happy little boy & we were lucky enough to be blessed with him in our lives x

Just looking at their beautiful happy little faces when they look at me with such wonder and imagination in their eyes. Knowing they depend on me and i love them so much that life means nothing without them.

When my second son was born at home just before 1 in the morning, his older brother (4) cried when he couldn't decide which of his toys he wanted to give his new baby. He then stayed in our room all night long, too excited to sleep, watching over his tiny new baby. They are inseparable still 8 weeks later.

DD's unshakeable confidence that everything will be alright. That everyone you meet is now your friend because why wouldn't they be? Moving her back into bed properly after she has wriggled into the most extraordinary positions and still somehow stayed asleep.
