The school summer holidays are a great time to share lots of wonderful moments with your children, and though the cost of exciting days out can really add up, they’re not the only way to have fun.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would like you to share the joyful summer moments you’ve shared with your children which cost nothing.

This could be a water fight in the garden on a hot summer day, a trip to a local museum that you both really enjoyed or an impromptu picnic in the park. Have you found creative ways to have fun without the price tag? Whatever your joyful summer moments that cost nothing, share them with Cadbury below.

All those who post a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £265 Love2Shop voucher and a second winner will win a Merlin family ticket worth up to £200.

Thanks and good luck!

Additional information for Merlin prize: the winner will need to advise on the attraction they would like to visit and they will be sent a set of open dated tickets to use in 2016. The exception is Madame Tussauds in London where it gets very busy. Therefore, the winner will need to advise on three potential dates for their visit and Merlin will book them in in advance for one of those dates.

One of our best days out was a picnic with another family at the local park. Kids invented a game of spin in circles 10 times then try to run in a straight line, it was hilarious to watch and soon got the adults involved too. Lots of fun and laughter that day!

Favourite summer holiday activities of ours: days at the beach, walks and picnics in the local park, eating all our meals for a day or two in a tent in the garden (lots of reading of books/playing with toys in there as well), indoor picnic lunches on days when it rains, bicycle rides round the local cycle paths, identifying bugs and flowers in local woods.

One of the priceless things this summer has been going to the beach, and making little dams, they boy loves trying to block a stream and is obessed with it for hours!

picnic in the garden after my little one had helped make the food and baked some buns! perfect day

julieef · 06/08/2016 15:33

went to the Swansea Airshow, kids loved the Red Arrows, it was free entry and we took a picnic so didn't have to spend on food, they loved it as they could play on the beach too as they took their footballs

we have a box filled up with wishes, and we pull one out every day

Ds's favourite part of the holidays so far has been Pokemon hunting round our local town and parks! Has proven a great way to fill a few hours on days when we have no plans.

We went to a national trust place the other day (we have membership so didn't cost us to go in), had a picnic then played in a stream, entertain both dcs for the day.

A walk in the park to blow all the stresses & strains of every day life away.

amyhalliday1 · 06/08/2016 16:19

We take a home made picnic and go bird watching and leaf collecting at the park xx

MrsDramaQueen · 06/08/2016 17:25

My kids love nothing more than having a picnic. We go for a little walk in the woods, make a picnic from stuff we have at home, and then at the end of the walk we have a nice picnic. We then usually come home and the kids play in the garden, if it's hot enough in the paddling pool, and we enjoy a family bbq. A perfect family day together, costing next to nothing.

A picnic on the beach with my granddaughter and looking for crabs in the water pools

When it's warm DD loves going into town and playing in the water fountains (she'd go when it's not so warm as well but I object). She also likes going to a local castle/park as we have annual membership and we can wander round and then play in the sandpit for hours.

It was raining, but we still managed to light a fire to roast marshmallows!! such a fun first time experience for my boys, and one they will certainly remember!

LeeR1985 · 06/08/2016 19:20

I always take my daughter to the local park which costs nothing and then take a walk along the canal to see the ducks. Costs nothing and we always have a great time!

ALemonyPea · 06/08/2016 19:29

We spend a lot of time walking through forests, around lakes, going to woody parks. Bug hunts are especially popular, we have some bug jars with magnifying lids so my DC can see them up close.

Photo is of DS3 and a ladybird on his finger. One of my favourite photos of him, as its very him, right in there with his hands.

alsproject · 06/08/2016 19:34

We gave our son our old digital camera that wasn't used anymore. He spends the time taking pictures of anything and everything and it keeps him entertained. He also shows us his best pictures every week

kittykomp · 06/08/2016 19:48

we love geocaching and it's free :)

redbook · 06/08/2016 19:49

Paddling in a little stream on a hot afternoon. We stumbled across it and we're not prepared for getting wet, so rolled up our trousers and took off our shoes and played. Before I knew it, we had been playing for 90 mins

MAT12 · 06/08/2016 20:00

It would be when our son skimmed his stone across the sea for more than just two hits. I think he spoke about it for nearly four days telling as many friends and family as possible. Its the little thing that make us smile

beeelaine · 06/08/2016 20:04

Pebble painting - my son used to love that so much, we would make cars, ladybirds, monsters and then do stripey ones and spotty ones and then place them around our plants in our garden. The "precious" ones got a coat of varnish so they lasted a little longer! He also loved the picnics when he was little - and the simplest of things just popping up a tent in the garden and having a home picnic!

sarah861421 · 06/08/2016 20:16

taking the dog for a walk with my daughter and finding a new place to walk.

lozzi12345 · 06/08/2016 20:18
