The school summer holidays are a great time to share lots of wonderful moments with your children, and though the cost of exciting days out can really add up, they’re not the only way to have fun.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would like you to share the joyful summer moments you’ve shared with your children which cost nothing.

This could be a water fight in the garden on a hot summer day, a trip to a local museum that you both really enjoyed or an impromptu picnic in the park. Have you found creative ways to have fun without the price tag? Whatever your joyful summer moments that cost nothing, share them with Cadbury below.

All those who post a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £265 Love2Shop voucher and a second winner will win a Merlin family ticket worth up to £200.

Thanks and good luck!

Additional information for Merlin prize: the winner will need to advise on the attraction they would like to visit and they will be sent a set of open dated tickets to use in 2016. The exception is Madame Tussauds in London where it gets very busy. Therefore, the winner will need to advise on three potential dates for their visit and Merlin will book them in in advance for one of those dates.

We've all been out in the garden, weeding and watering etc. I don't know much about gardening myself, so we keep googling to find out what we should be doing. It's exciting learning together as we go along, plus it gives us plenty of exercise in the fresh air!

Going to the beach is very popular here! Just bring a couple of towels, bucket and spade, and the boy is happy :D

Walking down to the local beach and spending hours of fun in the rock pools crabbing!

Picnic in Richmond Park was a great success for my two boys.

Our best family fun day this summer has been a day spent in my Mum's garden with a water slide, a hose, and my daughter and her three cousins! They had lots of fun chasing each other with the hose and racing each other down the slide.

Okay, it is Pokemon Go. We live in a rural area, so my daughter has to be taken to a nearby village to actually do whatever they do, but I don't mind. I like to indulge her enthusiasm for such things and she will be a long time grown up. She has renewed enthusiasm for walking the dog so she can hatch eggs and it has been lovely to share time with her.

We made a huge Elsa Frozen Ice Castle out of cardboard boxes and painted it. The children enjoyed making and painting it and have spent many happy hours playing in it.

Long countryside walks with the whole family and the dog in the sun! Best summer :)

ang29061 · 23/08/2016 19:44

Our favourite thing to do has been to get a couple of friends together and go to the local park and play in the stream whilst us grown ups chat. It's a winner for all.

Walks and a picnic with my husband and 5 month old baby.

Sometimes during the week I take the baby to the seaside, just me and him. Breathe in the fresh air and have a quiet sit.

A day at Hyde Park. A start at the Diana playground then running around the fountain, cooling from the heat

on the beach with my mum and dad and my dad had this kite.
he wouldnt let me play.
my mum convinced him to let me hold it, he told me whatever you do do not let go.
i obviously let go straight awaya, i remember seeing him run off down the beach and didnt see him again for the next 2 hours. Hope my child doesnt do anything like that to me!

We've loved our visit to our local RNLI station - completely free, great fun and, most importantly as we live by the coast, important safety messages.

TiggersAngel7774 · 24/08/2016 00:31

going to local park to use pool

villagefox · 24/08/2016 07:59

We have been on lots of walks in the fields around the village and to the beach. With both we have taken a picnic as not to spend more money than we would have done at home. At home there has been a lot of water play especially on the warmer days. As my son is a little old for the water table - we draw targets/pictures on the walls and fence in chalk and he has to use his water pistol to clean them off.

Kangakate · 24/08/2016 09:18

My joyful summer moments are dog walks. Watching everyone getting excited and chasing each other around. Down to the pond for some duckling spotting and a quick picnic pitstop. They go excited throwing Kanga her ball and watching her run after it and bring it back to their feet or she holds onto it so they chase her around a bit!

Watching my granddaughter enjoy new experiences, pure innocence!

Our best free summer day has been a bug hunt in the garden. I printed off some pictures of common garden bugs and we ran round finding them. My youngest was so excited.

iamsaranna · 24/08/2016 15:18

My kids have really enjoyed making miniature gardens this summer and helping me in the garden.
A real highlight last week, was finally being allowed to pick the raspberries and "helping" me make jam.

Dovebird10 · 24/08/2016 16:15

Websites that list free activities are a must-view part of my preparation for summer holidays.

This summer, so far, the children and I have enjoyed some wonderful free swims at the local council swimming pool; played in the park on the swings and slides and thrown an old frisbee; blown bubbles that had come free with a magazine; picked a jar full of daisies that had self-seeded from some I planted last summer; walked to the new green space to see if we could find any ducks or early conkers and completed a reading challenge at the library.

We have laughed a lot and created many wonderful memories.

kristanybryn · 24/08/2016 16:53

My family and I went on a walk through our local forest to try and find fairies. We took a picnic and made a wonderful day of it with lifelong memories.

matphil · 24/08/2016 17:46

We've made lots of craft items and done some baking on rainy days. When it's been nice we have enjoyed going for walks, having picnics, visiting the park and playing with friends.

casspuss · 24/08/2016 17:48

beach days - they cost nothing but bring joy and smile :) x
