The school summer holidays are a great time to share lots of wonderful moments with your children, and though the cost of exciting days out can really add up, they’re not the only way to have fun.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would like you to share the joyful summer moments you’ve shared with your children which cost nothing.

This could be a water fight in the garden on a hot summer day, a trip to a local museum that you both really enjoyed or an impromptu picnic in the park. Have you found creative ways to have fun without the price tag? Whatever your joyful summer moments that cost nothing, share them with Cadbury below.

All those who post a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £265 Love2Shop voucher and a second winner will win a Merlin family ticket worth up to £200.

Thanks and good luck!

Additional information for Merlin prize: the winner will need to advise on the attraction they would like to visit and they will be sent a set of open dated tickets to use in 2016. The exception is Madame Tussauds in London where it gets very busy. Therefore, the winner will need to advise on three potential dates for their visit and Merlin will book them in in advance for one of those dates.

No doubt my favourite memories of this summer will be all the water fights in the garden with my two little girls.
We set the paddling pool up in the morning so it can warm up throughout the day.
The hose is turned on everyone and everything while it fills up, we get out the water pistols, friends come round, everyone wears swimming costumes.
It's been so much fun and doesn't cost anything

A paddle in our local stream with a fishing net and a jam jar keeps them occupied for hours, oh and a picnic on the side to keep their energy levels up.

We are very fortunate in that we live near Whitby, North Yorkshire and can have beach days any time the weather is good. Also, we enjoy our garden and always have fun with the outdoor toys and family barbecues.

Finding a live crab in a rock pool - the squeals of delight were quite something!

littlepooch · 14/08/2016 20:29

Filling a plastic laundry basket with water and letting my baby daughter splash and play in the garden. The squeals of delight and the sight of her splashing around and giggling when the cat came along to try and join in was just the best ever.

Picnics in the park, bike rides and pokemon go cost nothing and keep us all happy.

Just playing but together: zombies who chase one another, ice queen who can freeze, magician who turns people into frogs! Priceless memories really.

Building dens and camping in the house on a very rainy day. Picnic included 😄

My friend told me about a great activity for kids which we are planning for this week that costs next to nothing. Basically you need an old roll of wallpaper, some bubblewrap and child friendly paint. Make the kids bubblewrap shoes, let them dip in the paint then print up and down the wallpaper by walking. Apparently they loved it and it was all items most people would have around the house.

We spent a lovely day down at Abingdon, parked for free, visited the museum and then a walk around abbey meadows and the priory ruins followed by a play in the play park and splash area! Wonderful day and nothing spent as we took a picnic and ate by the river watching the canal boats

trips to the park with a picnic are DC's favourite day out, or the beach, but it costs a fortune to park there, so the park is better.

they also love having water fights on a hot sunny day.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 15/08/2016 21:15

Today we had a no spend day.

Did gardening where we pretended to make a witch's mix to feed to goblins

washed the car in our bare feet,

slid down the slide and onto plastic sheeting that had been soaped with basics baby wash.

And my boys are 8. Who says it's all football and nintendo?

We've enjoyed Bee Hunting/Spotting in the garden - and drawing them on the Rainey days!

Today we have been out to the woods on the local common, picking blackberries to make compote. My children love running wild, climbing trees, jumping over streams and then going back home to eat their berries!!

We have had a lot of rain over the summer, but it has been very warm, so we went dancing in the rain. The boys were out in the garden with wellies and t shirts and swimshorts on, jumping in puddles and having the best time posing for mad photos. Then inside for a warm shower, cosy clothes and hot chocolate followed by a favourite DVD.

The whole family messing about in the sea in wellingtons on a remote beach in Wales

lynwestie · 16/08/2016 11:35

taking the children for a trip on a bus or train when you would normally drive.

ipanda · 16/08/2016 12:38

Making your own kites and trying to fly them in the park, great fun.

Lulabellx1 · 16/08/2016 12:48

We went to our local animal sanctuary (which happened to be DS's class charity last year at school). This kids get to see all the animal and they have a lovely picnic area where we could have our own picnic. My DD still says "we went tot the zoo" LOL. It cost me nothing but has been one our most fun days so far!

kayleigh39 · 16/08/2016 14:17

We went exploring the wonderful countryside that we live in - the kids even got to use the camera! The eldest wants to be photographer now and has put a proper camera on his 'santa's list'.

My favourite impromptu family moment of the summer so far was all of us squished in our bed at 11 o'clock at night last week watching the final of the Team Sprint in the velodrome at the Rio Olympics. It was a lovely spontaneous family moment that cost nothing except for a bit of lost sleep!

Catching sticklebacks in a stream and setting up a tank to keep them in.

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 16/08/2016 17:04

Getting the garden hose out on hot days - making arches of water and the kids running through shrieking! Love their excited laughter Smile

Mepearcey · 16/08/2016 18:45

We've been spending a lot of our days exploring the Woods near to where we live, we've been making dens , bike riding and listening out for the birds, playing hide and seek and looking for things the marines have left behind,
All this and a lovely picnic to finish it off
Perfect Smile
