The Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate, Part I. £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won NOW CLOSED

To celebrate Fairy Non Bio’s sponsorship of the Mumsnet Talk App, we’re launching the Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate – as with all great Wink series, it's a three-parter. Part I is about how often you wash your bed sheets (as we know, always a hot topic on Mumsnet).

We all know that washing bed sheets can be total faff: there’s stripping the bed, then there’s putting the wash on (are you a warm 40C or a hot 90C type?) Then there’s hanging it out and the struggle for drying space (unless you use the dryer Blush?) After that there’s folding - and, for the super-keen, perhaps even ironing. Finally, there’s getting the darn things back on the bed.

So - how often do you wash your bed sheets? And how often do you wash your DC’s bed sheets? Do you have a specific process? Perhaps you change pillow cases weekly, but sheets and duvet covers every two weeks? How often do you change your mattress protector (Blush again)? Do you use softener?

Whatever your bed sheet-washing process, do share it with Fairy Non Bio in the thread below, and maybe even give us a live update from the Mumsnet Talk App as you're waiting for the load to finish Grin.

Everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

I wash them every week :) I love the feel of getting into freshly washed bed linen :)

thekiwibex · 08/08/2016 03:17

Goodness, not nearly as often as most people on this thread apparently do - certainly not every week or two! Although it does feel lovely to get into bed on fresh sheets. Tend to wash bedding on a hot wash, dry it outside on the line, and would never use fabric softener.

samosh22 · 08/08/2016 07:07

Monthly

mo3733 · 08/08/2016 07:20

every friday is bed changing day

Toystory36 · 08/08/2016 07:37

I change the beds weekly in our house. Love the feeling of fresh sheets

Ikea1234 · 08/08/2016 07:59

Every week, without fail. Infact, today is stripping day! 😉

Ememem84 · 08/08/2016 08:26

Bedding gets washed every week. Usually on a Sunday. So we can start the week with nice fresh clean bedding. Always on either 60 or 90.

And use powder not gel.

windowmouse · 08/08/2016 09:44

Every other week, is that OK? I'm not sure..

phillie1 · 08/08/2016 09:58

Every 2 weeks.

liane1987 · 08/08/2016 10:17

For me, I change my sheets every 2 weeks, weekly though in the hotter weather.

Sellins · 08/08/2016 10:27

I aim to do them fortnightly but don't beat myself up if it's longer. Wash at 30 with bleach.

kamaxtra · 08/08/2016 10:59

Fortnightly - I wash on 60 if there's sweat or any other marks, otherwise 30 will do. Fairy non-bio and some softener does the trick! I hang the sheets either in the bathroom if there's space that day (i.e. no other laundry loads) or outside on the balcony.

Pmliu · 08/08/2016 13:02

I was washing them every week, but now that I have 3 under 3's they keep me so busy I now do them every 2 weeks.

soupey1 · 08/08/2016 13:10

Every two weeks for sheets, pillowcases and duvet cover. Monthly for the pillow protectors and mattress protector (so every other time I wash the sheets). Always at 60 degrees.

patchysmum · 08/08/2016 13:15

I wash mine every two weeks more often if it has been very hot

kittylover · 08/08/2016 15:51

simone12345 · 08/08/2016 16:42

geezerbird44 · 08/08/2016 16:57

I can't wait to change my sheets and do it every week

CassetteTape · 08/08/2016 17:44

2 bed sets, in with the towels on 60 degrees, fortnightly. Then when I get my mad wash everything that isn't nailed down feelings I do all the many blankets, and in heatwave weather the duvets and mattress protectors.

I do them extra after illness or before a trip, so they are fresh and welcoming when we get back.

clarehhh · 08/08/2016 18:40

Fort nightly for all in family unless offspring are away then leave longer .Wash top pillowcase top and bottom sheet , leave duvet cover longer on our king size bed as all pure cotton 400 thread count, wash at 40 dry on line or airer occasionally tumble in bad weather.Husband irons them all.

Clairescottshug · 08/08/2016 19:38

Well reading this i am ashamed to say every couple of months..40 degrees on a good wash cycle.

The kids are more often- baby almost every other day, toddler at least twice a week, but 9 year old when we do ours.

Sparklesandglitter · 08/08/2016 19:43

how often do you wash your bed sheets? - I wash bedding once a week or more if it's dirty
And how often do you wash your DC’s bed sheets? I was this every one - two weeks depending on if it's dirty
Do you have a specific - no, it all goes In together on a 60 degree wash
How often do you change your mattress protector? Don't use one
Do you use softener? Yes but I alternative with detol anti bacterial liquid

DaisyDando · 08/08/2016 20:54

I wash the sheets every week at 60 degrees. I line dry in the summer. Sometimes I have to wash them twice because of bird poo.

In the colder weather I pop the fitted sheet over a door somewhere in the flat.

As for tumble drying, it's very occasional because we are not Rockefellers, you know.

Never, ever, ever iron sheets. But my mum does and it's LOVELY.

cheekychicken103 · 08/08/2016 20:59

I wash our bed linen every week and the mattress protector every 2, they get washed on 40oC unless its a particularly warm week, when I wash the at 50oC. DD gets hers done every week, unless it needs changed more often. Her's get washed at 60oC in with the re-useable nappies.
I dry them outside if I can, if not inside on an airer.
I have to Iron our sheets and pillow cases I don't think it would feel the same without that. and PJ's get changed and Ironed too!
