These days, parenting tips are available from a wealth of sources and sometimes it can be tricky to know who to listen to. The team at Nurofen for Children would love to hear who you turn to for the best parenting advice and why you trust or listen to them most of all.

Here's what Nurofen for Children says,"Being a parent is a wonderful life changing experience, full of challenges and triumphs at every stage. We understand seeking advice from a variety of sources is an important part of feeling confident in the decisions you make for your children, so we’d love to hear who you turn to for advice (and the reasons you love the tips they give)".

So please share on this thread your best sources of advice: whether it's a trusted friend who has been there and done that, your own mum, your health visitor, a magazine or blog, the content pages or talk boards on MN Wink etc. They'd also like to know why you love that source of advice so much - perhaps you could share the best advice you've been given and why it worked for you.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

MNHQ

my mum, because she had three kids (inc. me) so has experience!

windowmouse · 14/02/2016 17:19

My mum or a trusted friend

littlemouse15 · 14/02/2016 17:28

I would ask the lovely group of women i met through mumsnet, the women at the local childrens center or my mum :)

IonaAilidh11 · 14/02/2016 17:47

my grandma, she has been there for the births of all my 3 kids

Annbunce · 14/02/2016 20:00

My mum or my best friend. Mum has plenty of experience and my friend and I have the same age children, so we discuss things on a regular basis. The Internet also has lots of great advice and support x

phillie1 · 14/02/2016 20:08

Just trust my instinct

jayfi303 · 14/02/2016 20:13

I speak to my friends a lot especially those whose children are a little bit older than mine - they've often seen all the same problems.

cluckyhen · 14/02/2016 22:21

I turn to my old babysitter as my parents were shockingly bad. My babysitter has always been there for me and I class her as my mother as she basically brought me up. I trust her implicitly and my children call her gran. She is a font of wisdom.

lhlee62 · 14/02/2016 22:35

I turn to mums I have met who have children of a similar age, I do not ask my MIL, FIL as they have very odd views. I do ask my parents, but they are old fashioned so I don't tend to take their advice.

heyday · 14/02/2016 22:52

Other parents quite often. But every situation requires a different advisor depending on the advice needed. It takes 2 to create a child but an army to raise one..... this quote is so very true.

mamof3boys · 14/02/2016 23:44

My mother as she raised three children and is also a nurse so I trust her judgement. She always stays calm even in emergencies.

PrincessAisha2015 · 15/02/2016 00:00

I always ask my mum first as she has more experience with myself and siblings when we were children- also I do look on Mumsnet forums

GillianY1 · 15/02/2016 00:07

I always go to my mum for advice on parenting as she brought me up so well! For medical advice I would always visit my local pharmacy or doctor.

MrsJorahMormont · 15/02/2016 00:10

MN for general stuff because people always have great suggestions for books and blogs (e.g. the Kellymom website when breastfeeding - heard about it on MN). For medical stuff, Dr Google Blush followed by GP if it seems like it will need treatment. Friends too but mostly only ones with reasonably young kids - others seem to forget very quickly what it's like a the coalface!

Snog · 15/02/2016 07:13

Got to be mumsnet.
Multiple viewpoints and masses of experience on tap 24 hours a day!

Mrswinkler · 15/02/2016 07:20

Mumsnet ;-)

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 15/02/2016 07:52

Mumsnet. I've got excellent advice. There are so many posters and usually a few will have the experience to give the most practical and sensible advice.
I even got better advice than I got from my gp regarding ds2's allergies!
(Obviously I'm not advocating getting advice from mumsnet rather than your gp but if you think your gp is ineffective then people can tell you what steps to take next to get the help you need)

marylegs23 · 15/02/2016 08:48

i turn to my sister who has three kids and my best friend who has two. I sometimes ask my mum but my sister and my friend give more unbiased advice.

DillieDoily · 15/02/2016 09:31

My first port of call is always my DM as she has 4 DC and was a nursery nurse so definitely knows a lot about children. I also ask my DS. Online I ask a Facebook group which started as a MN antenatal board so everyone has DC of the same age. MN is my most trusted place for general behaviour info etc and for minor medical info I would check the NHS patient website or the Boots one. For any serious medical advice I would go to my GP

Sellins · 15/02/2016 09:31

Mum of course

WinterBabyof89 · 15/02/2016 09:39

I always ask my mum - but quite often she can't remember what she did with me back when I was a baby!

The internet is often a blessing though as I do remember googling 'how to put a baby-grow on a baby' before my second child was born - youtube helped me out haha

HollybearFluffpuss · 15/02/2016 10:18

Usually my friends. They are all mothers with a wealth of experience between them and it's good to catch up #& have a natter!

skyeskyeskye · 15/02/2016 10:56

Being a single parent, I turn to my mum a lot for advice and help. She is very sensible and doesn't judge.

sweetsomethings · 15/02/2016 11:02

Mumsnet is the best place to get advice

ouryve · 15/02/2016 11:13

I don't really, though I sometimes sound out specific issues on the Mumsnet Special Needs boards.
