We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Car Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Car insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So what would be your ideal car insurance policy? Should it include a number of complimentary car washes each year? Any extras to keep your family safe when motoring?

Whatever you’d like from your car insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Who knows, you could help shape the future of car insurance?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,

Competitively priced - no unnecessary gimmicks pushing up the price.

Things like breakdown recovery, legal cover, courtesy car etc. should be optional extras, with the additional cost made really clear.

jandoc · 29/12/2015 19:02

the main thing for me is the price

kristianjsnooks · 29/12/2015 19:42

My list -

Fair Prices
Sensible policy
UK based staff
Quick, easy and hassle free claims procedure

All of which my previous insurer failed on when I had to make a recent no-fault claim!

sammylea80 · 29/12/2015 19:45

a transparent policy with no small print! And why do they insist on putting up the prices so that you have to haggle?

Caelaj07 · 29/12/2015 20:05

Cheap as possible

ButtonMoonLoon · 29/12/2015 20:14

Low cost is always top of my list, but I always want my policy to include legal protection cover, courtesy car and windscreen repair.
I always always buy through Topcashback

BellaWella86 · 29/12/2015 21:03

Best possible price from a reputable company.

marymanc · 29/12/2015 22:55

I haven't got a car at the moment but when I used to have one I used to go for the cheapest option. I would choose a low excess and preferred the one who gave you discounts for the following years.

princesssmitheee · 30/12/2015 01:13

more offers for reneweal and good customer service x

clopper · 30/12/2015 02:13

I want customer loyalty discounts automatically as its exceptionally annoying to see much better rates offered to new customers only. Clear terms and conditions are important and so is a good customer service base, preferably based in the UK. I hate hate hate endless options of button pushing e.g pres 3 for.... When you just want to speK to someone. Three simple options- new policy, claim or talk about the policy you have.

Cocacolaandchocolate · 30/12/2015 05:31

In the event of accident or theft. A curtesy car same day. Which can seat 4 children.

fm201069 · 30/12/2015 08:02

good price and a uk call centre

cagsd · 30/12/2015 08:45

No gimmicks, I just want a decent price and good service - if I need to claim it should be straightforward. I'd happily stay with the same provider year upon year if they either kept the price the same or dropped it, and I knew that if there was a problem they would sort it quickly and easily.

nikloustew · 30/12/2015 09:11

I agree with others regarding a fair price, especially at renewal time. Nothing frustrates me more than companies who rip off their current customers!

adamcorner · 30/12/2015 09:13

Level of service and coverage are more important than price to me as that's what I'm paying for. Those make up my top three

driscoll123D · 30/12/2015 11:04

Free breakdown cover would be useful.

Sarah1785 · 30/12/2015 11:12

All I want is a fair service, someone who takes the time to understand your needs and to give to a service and product that is based on your life style.
A fair renewal system and easy to understand pricing, with no catch you out fees or hidden extra costs!
Being a mum of 3 little ones under the age of 3 it would also be nice to know if I'm out and about and any thing happened to my car I would have a cover car sent to me as soon as possible or a safe place to go to whilst waiting for repairs.
Cover for things like the buggy or car seats if my car was ever stolen.

OnMyShoulders · 30/12/2015 11:28

I want my car insurance policy to be clear and simple. Transparent, without clauses hidden in the terms and conditions. I'm not interested in gimmicks and want to feel like I'm getting value for money. Customer service is very important to me. In January, about an hour after we picked up our brand new car, someone drove into the side of us and caused many thousands of pounds worth of damage. Nationwide managed our claim very badly and I felt very let down as a result. An appointed claims manager would have made a difference I think.

nicjbrit76 · 30/12/2015 11:37

A good recovery service

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 30/12/2015 14:44

A straightforward policy that includes everything and that would mean an easy process to claim if necessary. it would be great if the policy renewal premium actually went down each year - the renewal price is never the cheapest when you use a comparison site. I suppose free car washes might be nice, but it certainly wouldn't be a deal maker if there was a cheaper policy elsewhere.

daisybeebee · 30/12/2015 15:28

I want an insurance policy that rewards good drivers and long term customers.
One that has a fast and efficient claims process and is able to provide courtesy cars, if needed, delivered to the home the same day.
I want a UK based call centre and a named adviser who is responsible for my claim.
I do not want to haggle on price, if you do not appreciate me I will go somewhere else.

lorka · 30/12/2015 16:17

An easy comparison tool where you can link your current insurance details to other companies so you see if you really are paying the cheapest. This would mean not having to type in all your details but just sending a link to your details.

funkyfish586 · 30/12/2015 17:05

If the past we have been happily with an insurer & when it renews its been a massive jump up! I would like a price fix or at least a reason as to why this happens.

clarem100 · 30/12/2015 19:22

a reasonable price that is honest with no hidden nasty surprises

itsmeexxx · 30/12/2015 22:59

A decent multi car discount
