We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Car Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Car insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So what would be your ideal car insurance policy? Should it include a number of complimentary car washes each year? Any extras to keep your family safe when motoring?

Whatever you’d like from your car insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Who knows, you could help shape the future of car insurance?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,

That the price given for renewal is the best and final price with no hidden extras and that there is a discount for loyalty. Quite straightforward really, surprisingly none of the insurers do this!

buckley1983 · 31/12/2015 08:15

Ability to manage policy online. Attractive renewal price. Incentive offers for renewing. UK based call centres.
It's also really important to me that I have the option to manage my policy online & if I make any changes, I'm not charged an extortionate admin fee.

LizB62A · 31/12/2015 11:29

A good renewal premium (offering me the same low price that they offer to new customers), courtesy car if needed, and helpful considerate people at the end of the phone when I need them. Oh - and tell me what else I could do to reduce my insurance premiums e.g. do an advanced driving course, have a dashcam etc.

angiehoggett · 31/12/2015 12:39

Good, fair, reliable customer service, understanding and a good price which is competitive. I think it's nice if you treat long term customers fairly as well instead of hiking up the price every year in the hope that you can't be bothered to shop around!!

Jade5093 · 31/12/2015 13:56

Protected against uninsured drivers and also the premium not to rise each year

nerysw · 31/12/2015 15:05

To be treated well by their operatives, same renewal discounts as they offer new customers.

serendipity1980 · 31/12/2015 15:28

a clear policy with a good excess and no silly exemption clauses. Also, a good deal for current customers rather than having to swap for a better deal.

mwatmough · 31/12/2015 15:57

Value for money

JocelynWildensteinOnABroom · 31/12/2015 16:18

Protected no claims, courtesy car, a simple renewal process at the same price you offer new customers & excellent customer service...

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 31/12/2015 16:37

What would I like?

Somebody with the competence to not scrap my car after a minor repair has been authorised.

Causing irreparable damage in the process.

Somebody who won't get my car delivered to a scrap yard when they don't have ownership documents.

Somebody who can tell me if I am still insured or not, and not change their minds repeatedly over 9 months.

Somebody who takes less than 2 weeks to reply to an email.

These are just some of the failings from sheilas wheels.

If they were the only insurance company left in the world, I would give up driving!

informer365 · 31/12/2015 17:22

A more fair rate, with legal aid as standard accross all policies.

YeOldeTrout · 31/12/2015 17:41

I have only been insured with Directline (only ones that would give me a no claims bonus since I had none in my own name). Since I've never had to claim I can only comment on customer service which has seemed very straightforward; that's very reassuring.

Commuting to work needs to be covered in main package.

Since i wouldn't need a hire car, I'd like a discount for not having that as part of my package.

Being able to register my winter/summer tyre changes online rather than having to ring them up would be an improvement.

katiefish · 31/12/2015 19:11

a fair renewel price honourly loyaltly. Easy claims when an accident has been had and courtesy car if you car is written off/ being fixed.

samosh22 · 31/12/2015 19:16

Good price. No hidden costs. Good cover

rbrown · 31/12/2015 23:40

A great question - am happy to help.
i want:

  • great renewal price - without me having to call up and haggle..
  • low excess options
  • choice to add on breakdown cover
  • free windscreen chip repair
  • clear options
  • uk based call centres

thanks folks!

I would like to be able to contact them online as I hate the waiting times on the phone. I also would like competitive prices as there's a reason why I'm sticking with them and they should do everything possible to persuade me to stick with them.

Daariina · 01/01/2016 00:36

Some sort of loyalty scheme whereby you're actually given good prices in proportion to how long you've been with them.

Indantherene · 01/01/2016 12:54

DH has just had his renewal notice through. No claims this year and nothing changed. Premium was £19.28 pm, now £30.88 pm! How do they justify this?

Stoodles · 01/01/2016 13:30

Above all I want honesty and efficiency in dealing with a claim. I had a bad experience where a major company refused fora month to acknowledge that my car, caught in a fire, was written off, even though it was burnt out

Cupcakemumma11 · 01/01/2016 13:44

I wouldn't care about freebies either. I'd just want to know it's easy to make a claim, UK call centres are a bonus, good prices etc for renewals and not just new customers, no spamming me with emails or phone calls etc because i've had that before with other companies!

gingercat12 · 01/01/2016 19:34

It is really annoying when the quote offered on a price comparison website is not what you are offered on the actual website. I want reasonable cover and a low price.

HelenSw4les · 01/01/2016 20:45

Cover at the right price and uncomplicated policy documents would be super.

ILikeBigBumpsAndICannotLie · 01/01/2016 21:19

Straightforward conditions. Reward loyalty in preference to new customers. A good price the following year without having to phone to argue it down, a short timescale to pay out claims.

mistywillow17 · 01/01/2016 21:58

Not to have to play the renewal game every year - it drives me round the bend and makes me more likely to switch provider. Just give me a decent price in the first place, and I'd let it auto-renew.

JennaRoss · 02/01/2016 07:41

UK call centres with no 50p per min charges.

A good price at renewal as well as when taking out the policy.

No ridiculous £50 admin charges for making tiny changes.
