We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Car Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Car insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So what would be your ideal car insurance policy? Should it include a number of complimentary car washes each year? Any extras to keep your family safe when motoring?

Whatever you’d like from your car insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Who knows, you could help shape the future of car insurance?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,

Ease of applying (no pages & pages of small print)
UK Call centres
To be treated like a human being if I have to claim
Honesty (most insurance companies are great until you have to claim)

StickChildNumberTwo · 28/12/2015 16:57

Not having to search for the best price each year and change insurers to get it, instead knowing the renewal price I've been offered is the best one I'll get.

Comprehensive cover and easy claims systems.

lionheart · 28/12/2015 17:39

Fair price--not just for the first year.
Decent advice line.
Hire car if needed.
Open and transparent communications.

mo3733 · 28/12/2015 17:52

for them to appreciate careful drivers more

Soosieboo · 28/12/2015 17:56

I want insurance companies to value our loyalty. When you get the renewal price it should be the same as for a new customer.
I don't want to have to haggle the price on the phone. If you want my custom treat me like the best customer you have!

Dapootz · 28/12/2015 18:05

Fair prices. This is the most important thing I want from an insurer. The cost of car insurance is quite ridiculous generally and the cost of excess is also excessive (maybe that's why it's called an excess) 😀

phillie1 · 28/12/2015 18:11

peace of mind, that if I have a crash, I can be back on the road asap, with hire car until mine is fixed

starrybee · 28/12/2015 18:14

Cheaper insurance with a hassle free claims procedure (although fingers crossed I never have to ring them - touching lots of wood!)

Blondiebloo · 28/12/2015 19:05

Peace of mind

roggy45 · 28/12/2015 21:24

No gimmicks just good pricing. Affordable prices for new drivers. Courtesy car. Quick and easy claims.

cocochips · 28/12/2015 21:41

Low excesses

I would love a discount for loyal customer, every year what ever company I am with puts the price up,one year i was with a certain company and paid £300 the renewal came through and it was £400 ,I did a price comparison and the same company came up as £300 so I renewed online. The branch I was with then phoned me asking if I was going to renew and I explained that I already done it online, they then said I hope you realise you won't be with this branch.Like that makes an £100 difference.
Also I would love 70% NCB to mean you save 70% of the premium.
I would stay loyal to a company if they were fair to me but so far I haven't found any that are.

TiggersAngel7774 · 29/12/2015 02:03

to be able to tailor exactly to my needs at a price thats resonable

RiSo · 29/12/2015 07:02

A good renewal price when no claims for over 15 years would be good. Also my insurance includes roadside breakdown which is good as it is so cheap to buy separately anyway that to have it included is just one less hassle to think about each year.

KissMyFatArse · 29/12/2015 07:17

Havin enough staff to answer calls quickly instead of waiting 20mins just to get through.

Having knowledgeable staff who don't try and up sell throughout the call, just efficiently handle your enquiry.

Rip off admin fees.

Better quotes online

If they cold call throughout the year that's them being cancelled.

CordeliaScott · 29/12/2015 14:04

Sensible insurance premiums that they don't put up every year in the hope that you are too busy to look elsewhere.

Not putting premiums up just because you call them to ask a question.

Legal expenses insurance that actually insures legal expenses, not requires you to instruct a panel firm that don't answer the phone and appears to be staffed by people with less legal knowledge than me.

Answer calls quickly and have trained staff able to understand the problem and help.

SayAGreatBigThankyou · 29/12/2015 14:39

reasonable pricing, quick and no-quibble response if needed, no soft toy gimmicks.

CK12232 · 29/12/2015 14:46

I want mine to be bloody cheaper. That's all I want.
I'm in my first year of driving so I do sort of understand it, but I'm no spring chicken so it's not like I'm a teenager who has just passed their test.
I'm driving a tiny engine car, parked on a drive overnight etc, and still it costs me £85 a month with £900 excess.
Don't think I'd mind it so much if the car wasn't a very expensive heap of second-hand junk (on finance) which breaks down every other week.

BabyGanoush · 29/12/2015 14:54

I want it to be like shopping at Lidl: simple cheap and too the point

No complicated arrangements.

A replacement car when break down/accident occurs.

Car washes? No, why would I pay for that in my insurance? Keep it simple and just lower the price
