We’ve been asked by Sheilas' Wheels to find out what Mumsnetters want from their Car Insurance policy.

They say "we appreciate that Car insurance isn't something you think about every day, however, should you need it you want to know everything is covered."

So what would be your ideal car insurance policy? Should it include a number of complimentary car washes each year? Any extras to keep your family safe when motoring?

Whatever you’d like from your car insurance policy, Sheilas' Wheels would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Who knows, you could help shape the future of car insurance?

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks,

Value for money ie not extortionate price hikes and excellent customer service (especially if I need to make a claim). It would be nice to be treated as a human being!

danikagrace · 27/12/2015 16:00

assurance, security, and no hidden nasty surprises

samcornfield · 27/12/2015 16:08

A person that you can talk to on the phone that can actually make decisions. Reasonable prices without unnecessary extras.

flamingtoaster · 27/12/2015 16:25

Reasonable rates, freephone uk call centre, better renewal rates for customers as opposed to offering beneficial rates for new customers, clear outline of exactly what is covered.

Clairescottshug · 27/12/2015 16:35

Freephone number

Good communication and updates if making a claim (I had to chase and it took a year!!)

Fight your corner when not your fault

EmNix · 27/12/2015 17:09

Decent renewal prices for loyal customers. Without having to research online and bartering renewals.
Cover including hirecar and legal cover..
Polite efficient call centre

flozza42 · 27/12/2015 17:55

Simple application process, good rates and a UK call centre.

Good value (although I don't select the cheapest), protected no claims bonus, recognised name (I don't buy from a company I haven't heard of), good customer service that I'm not on hold on hours to speak to.

Car washes etc are nice but wouldn't sway me unless everything else between two companies were similar.

SmileAndNod · 27/12/2015 20:49

I would like:
Good deal at renewal so I don't feel I have to shop around
A clear policy
Small excess for window chips / cracks
A like for like courtesy car (to fit 3 car seats and a dog)
Car seat replacement
A genuine discount if I also get home / pet insurance from them
A UK call centre that answers quickly, or will call me back.

Car washes really wouldn't sway me, but things that are important to the day to day running of the family (eg adequate replacement car) would.

seeingdouble2 · 27/12/2015 21:13

lower prices and to be more fair, a car crashed into us they admitted they were to blame and the repair was made, down side they upped our monthly payment! unfair to say the least! so we voted with our feet :(

helly27 · 27/12/2015 21:22

a hire car even when you car is written off, as ours was written off they cancelled the insurance which means you cant hire a car whilst looking for a new one

sarah861421 · 27/12/2015 21:23

to be able to make minor temporary changes throughout the year without pay exhorbitant admin fees

shawbarbara · 27/12/2015 21:27

A fair price - a quick response and well treated when an accident happens - not much to ask

MAT12 · 27/12/2015 21:34

A courtesy car if mine needs to go into get fixed, not having to pay extra to keep my no claims bonus and UK call centres.

hanarees · 27/12/2015 21:48

Easy to use online service with renewals, policy changes etc.
Also fair renewal prices with price matches if you find cheaper quotes
Incentives to stay with the same provider such as discount after being with them so many years.

CalliopeTorres · 27/12/2015 22:21

Easy to renew at a fair price with no jargon, easy to make a claim and low excesses.

manfalou · 27/12/2015 22:37

Good Renewal Price... Especially if I've been with you 3 years and haven't claimed. Don't raise the price just because you can.... I will take my custom elsewhere.

Always a courtesy car in the policy. Quick response to claims.

gamerwidow · 27/12/2015 22:42

Good renewal price, courtesy car, easy to claim, freephone and local uk number

sweetsomethings · 28/12/2015 00:23

no yearly price hikes

Sycamoretrees · 28/12/2015 02:03

Good customer service, fair price, no admin charges for minor changes to policy, no silly gimmicks, transparent pricing structure. A name you can trust / aren't embarrassed to say you are with!

Joan049 · 28/12/2015 07:49

I would like insurance companies to invest in weeding out the fraudsters who seem to be able to make claims that increase the price of everyones premiums.

Bostin · 28/12/2015 08:15

I would like a few nicks and scratches sorted.

lizd31 · 28/12/2015 10:22

Good prices, low excess & breakdown cover that guarantees quick rescue for women who are stranded alone when they break down, especially at night
