To celebrate the re-launch of the Bassetts Vitamins range for all the family, they'd like you to share on this thread what you do with your DC (young or old) on a rainy day.

Do check out the video one of our bloggers made for them

Bassetts Vitamins say "we think family life is all about big puddles, big mud, big adventures, big tree-houses, big imaginations, big games, big days out, big messes, big noises and big fun - now we'd love to hear what fun times you and your family get up to when it's raining outside".

As the range includes vitamin products for all ages from 6 months, they'd love to hear from you, whatever age your DC are - whether they are teens or toddlers - what do you do or encourage your DC to do when it's all grey and rainy outside?

Add your comment to the thread and you'll be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for John Lewis.

Thanks and good luck.

We got caught in the rain recently and we ended up getting a bag of chips and huddling inside an Apple tree sharing them, my son thought it was great fun and wants to do it again on purpose, strange family 😂

MakeTeaNotWar · 23/11/2015 21:37

Depending on how filthy the weather is, we either get our wellies and raincoats on & carry on as normal or we just have a movie day, baking, colouring in & generally slob out

flamingtoaster · 23/11/2015 21:51

Puddle jumping (wearing all over waterproof suits and wellies) is a great rainy day activity. Follow with toasted crumpets (try rubbing a square of chocolate on them) - even better if you make them from scratch.

Board games, a favourite DVD, reading, origami (lots of instructions on the internet), home science experiments (the messier the better and best done in the kitchen), painting/drawing, dancing to a favourite CD.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 23/11/2015 22:06

If it's just light rain then we'd still go out / carry on as normal. We just get kitted out with winter coats, wellies, umbrellas etc. The DC love splashingin puddles!

If it is really awful weather then we have lots of indoor activities we can do at home including jigsaws, play doh, baking, and crafts (sticking / gluing / colouring etc).

We have some good libraries / museums / soft play centres nearby too so that's always an option.

Firewall · 23/11/2015 22:27

Lots of Lego or baking and crafts!

justjodie92 · 23/11/2015 22:30

We close the curtains, turn off the lights and have a 'cinema' by watching a favourite film.

Or sometimes we will just put on our wet weather gear and go out regardless!

Jw35 · 24/11/2015 00:08

An aquarium, swimming, bowling, soft play, cinema, pottery shop, museum, friends house.

Titsalinabumsquash · 24/11/2015 04:07

We like to splash in puddles, wellingtons and waterproofs are all that's needed, followed by a hot drink and a warm house to come into.

However, if we're not fancying going out we do indoor things, picnics on a rug on the carpet,
Mum's random story generator (Blushok this is just me writing themes on paper and getting the kids to pick a few each to write a story about)
crafts,
Turning the front room into a cinema (morning is spent writing tickets and programmes and then after lunch we get admitted to the cinema with popcorn and pillows)
Baking a new recipe,
Doing a mini project on something (we can go to the library then too)
Making the whole front room into a base with blankets and pop up tunnels,
Making the house into a fancy restaurant with menus and wearing our best clothes.
Mega danceathons to burn some energy (we like to play Britain's got talent)

It's all a bit silly but it keeps us entertained. Smile

Visit the local farm. Great when its quiet in the rain! Or bake cookies

gingerdad · 24/11/2015 07:41

Get wet. As they say there is no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothes.

BeeMyBaby · 24/11/2015 07:48

We either go to the cinema, swimming or we stay inside and play with Lego.

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 24/11/2015 07:57

We still go out and about. If it's not raining too heavily then we ll go for a walk in the woods, park or to the shops, library or museums.
If we stay in then we have lots of paper and pens for drawing, play-doh, board games, jigsaw puzzles, lego and a laptop/tablet.
The kids also enjoy baking.
We ve got an Xbox too so that's lots of fun with some dancing or active games.
I remember being bored on rainy days when I was young. I just seemed to read a lot and help with chores.
I don't think I've ever heard my kids say they're bored. Kids have so much more they can do these days.

worldgonecrazy · 24/11/2015 08:29

For normal rain, we carry on as usual.

If it's a howling gale, there's nothing like snuggling up in front of the woodburner and watching a family film on TV. As we don't have TV on during the week a film is a real treat for us at the weekend.

mjmo0oseface · 24/11/2015 08:42

My son loves splashing in puddles so on rainy days, we usually welly and wet trouser it up and head on out. I can usually be found jumping in the puddles right along with him! ;D

At the end of the summer, my husband had a few days off work and we'd decided to go to the National Forest Adventure Farm. When the day arrived, it was pouring with rain! But we didn't let that put us off! We went anyway and my son LOVED getting muddy exploring the maize maze! On the plus side, it was quiet at the farm due to the rain so that was nice!

Other than that, we might go swimming, stay in and play and watch DVDs and attempt a bit of painting or playdo'ing or go to an indoor place like the museum or soft play. Sometimes, you just want to stay in on a rainy days, other times, you want to get out there and feel the rain on your face and be happy!

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 24/11/2015 08:43

We still go out, just wear more / different layers. We all have raincoats, waterproof boots & gloves. She loves jumping in puddles so we always take a change of clothes for her. We don't have a car (or especially great public transport) so we're used to going out in all weathers.

If the weather is really horrid, with wind so strong it's raining sideways, we would usually stay in. DD is 3.6 so we read stories, do jigsaws, play with her many toys. Sometimes I knit or sew & she likes to play at sewing (I give her a ball-ended bodkin, some wool & a piece of cloth, which she loves). Sometimes we bake goodies & then scoff them while watching a film.

InMySpareTime · 24/11/2015 08:55

I make a blanket den and sit inside reading. Sometimes the DCs deign to join me...

Shirkingfromhome · 24/11/2015 10:12

I live in Manchester, we'd never leave the house if we stayed in every time it rained.

lucyanntrevelyan · 24/11/2015 10:44

We have a dog who needs walking whatever the weather, and football matches are rarely cancelled for rain it seems, so rainy days are just normal days here. We all have thermals, waterproof coats and wellies so just wrap up and get on with it. The DCs are well trained to shed all the wet clothes in a heap just where the dog will stand to be wiped down because they miraculously end up on the airer if left there. Once home we tend to snuggle in PJs on the sofa under blankets to warm up and watch some TV.

elvisthehamster · 24/11/2015 12:50

It rains here a lot , so we tend to just go about our routine as usual and splash around in our wellies and rainsuits ! However for particularly bad days we have home cinema days, baking or board games.
My youngest is very arty so will do fun things that everyone can join in with like draw around someone and then make or draw clothes on them or have an art competition /mini gallery and judging afterwards which obviously includes coffee and cake for me!

serendipity1980 · 24/11/2015 13:12

We bake, play games, maybe watch a DVD. But we do still go out when it's raining and the children still love going on the trampoline!

Wilhamenawonka · 24/11/2015 16:17

See friends, watch TV, go into London, and my kids favourite... Cleaning the house

hermancakedestroyer · 24/11/2015 16:23

On a rainy day we like to curl up in front of the tv and watch a good film with some snacks. Also the cinema is good fun especially the cheaper saturday morning viewings at the odeon. Baking also gets done when the weather is wet.

BrandNewAndImproved · 24/11/2015 19:22

I love rainy days when we don't have to go anywhere.

We bake cakes and eat them hot out of the oven with hot chocolates that have cream on. We build lego castles whilst watching films, make our own board games, have time to get out the paints and build dens in their bedroom for them to sleep in

I also make play dough and salt dough now and again for something different to occupy them.

I love it when it rains and they're not asking to go out, we have time to play with their toys and stuff.

Aethelfleda · 24/11/2015 19:31

Depends on the day and how much rain! If at home, we do baking, painting, playdoh, building toys, "home cinema" (make popcorn/drinks, make tickets, set up cinema seats and sit down for the movie) . Or go out somewhere it doesn't matter that it's raining!

TattieHowkerz · 24/11/2015 19:35

Most days seem like rainy days at the moment!

If it isn't too heavy we carry on as usual, with wellies to allow for jumping in big puddles. On really nasty, cold, wet, windy days well put on a film (right now Tangled, Little Mermaid and Toy Story are favourites), do some lego and so drawing. If I am not too frazzled baking might get a look in.
