The tree decorations that we've collected over the years. And the ones that DD has made at nursery, school etc.

marshgirl · 04/12/2015 20:01

Putting the Christmas tree up and the decorations around the house . Sitting in the living room with just the Christmas tree lights twinkling and the fire on watching Christmas films makes my house a cosy home .

Kangakate · 04/12/2015 21:47

It's where my family is and having the kids and dog so happy when I get home from work

turboshandy · 05/12/2015 00:21

Comfy furniture, cosy soft furnishings and nice fragrant candles flickering away.....and relax!

Keenoonvino · 05/12/2015 08:42

It's all the homemade stuff that the kids have made. The decorated Christmas baubles, handmade wreaths, little pictures that hang on the tree. The garland that my brother made when he was a kid that now hangs in our house at Christmas. I have a few framed pics of the kids I've snapped at Christmas over the years that I put away and bring out each Christmas. We always have the same meal each Christmas Eve, burn the same advent candle wreath. It's all the little things that are unique to you that make your house warm and cozy and unique to you. :)

For me, its possessions that either hold meaning or beauty - so beside me are some beautiful cushions that I made with vintage fabric that I found in a charity shop on a holiday to Stockholm, my beautiful collection of geraniums is on display in the window, and my grandmother's teapot is on the table beside me.

Alfieisnoisy · 05/12/2015 14:10

It's all the things that DS has ever made me, the photos of loved ones including pets (many now sadly passed on). It's having an animal friend or two in the home.
It's also about having a secure tenancy in that property and having some say over it.
It's about the love within it.
For me that love is my son.

It's warmth, it's companionship, it's love and it's familiarity.

wobblywindows · 05/12/2015 14:49

It's having things just so- not like out of some magazine, but how you want them, with your things. So the Christmas tree is an eclectic mix with 3 of everything, for the 3 of us that call this home.

allipratt · 05/12/2015 16:12

The mess and people and dogs in it! As well as the smell and heat of the woodburner and delicious (usually) smells wafting from the kitchen - mince pies today!

Roseformeplease · 05/12/2015 17:18

Ancient and rather scabby Christmas decorations, kept for years and made by the children on a real Christmas tree. The cake being started and the smell of the booze and fruit after a month of maturing. The children being excited, even though they are teens and pretend not to be. Watching old films and spending time together in one room, beside the fire.

interrobang · 05/12/2015 23:20

I don't like our house (sorry, House!) so I'm just gonna say my family.

mariamunkey · 05/12/2015 23:41

family mainly and everything that goes along with that ie.. their great sense of humour, being relaxed with each other and simple smiles and chats, heating, my soft furnishings, warm water and plenty of food in the cupboards.

jayz268 · 06/12/2015 01:46

My family and our friends when they visit

bobs123 · 06/12/2015 02:26

Quite simply the people in it. I recently got divorced and for 2 years my 2 DDs and I have been living in a tiny rental. We are happier here than living in a big house Smile

naomicm · 06/12/2015 03:09

twinkling fairy lights on the tree, the cats playing with baubles they have swiped off the tree, the dog chasing the cats, the kids chasing the dog chasing the cats, and 'silent night, peaceful night' playing in the background...its christmas chaos! my poor neighbours.

tinkertink2010 · 06/12/2015 03:22

Christmas candles, twinkly lights and cuddles on the sofa :)

LumpySpaceCow · 06/12/2015 05:25

A bit cliché but....my family! It wouldn't be a home at any time of the year without them Smile

balloon66 · 06/12/2015 06:22

warm rooms, happy faces and full tummies- ooh and lots of cuddles :)

cookinmummy · 06/12/2015 10:23

the children, husband and our dog - they make any house a home to me :-)

annii80 · 06/12/2015 12:33

The excitement of my kids makes my house a home at christmas :)

krnries · 06/12/2015 13:01

I've got to admit, our house isn't amazingly well decorated, or homely, but the mix of old and new furniture and our stuff makes it our home - and we're always relieved to get home and sit on our settee and sleep in our own beds :)
