SEAT have asked us to find out about the terrible things that Mumsnetters' DC have done to the family car.

Here's what SEAT say: "The new seven-seat SEAT Alhambra comes with everything you’d expect from a stylishly modern MPV. It comes with an abundance of space, technology, plus a powerful and sporty edge. The SEAT Alhambra features a wealth of new equipment and contemporary styling with over a dozen “Best MPV” awards since it was launched.
“Versatility remains a designed-in quality for the New Alhambra, packed with features to keep you comfortable, entertained and in control, it’s perfect for family adventures, no matter how long the journey.”
There's a £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won, so now's an excellent time to share: what are the most infuriating/alarming/astonishing things that your DC have done in or to your family vehicle?

Have sticky fingers smeared melted chocolate buttons across your pristine seats - or spilt a million tiny beads which are still turning up years later . Have you discovered unmentionables down the back of the seats - or been embarrassed by child-based detritus when giving a lift to a colleague?

Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks
MNHQ

DD2 somehow, managed to shower us with 'snow' as she was getting in to the car, to the delight of DD1, sitting at the front. For some strange reason, i turned a blind eye to it until we reached home and realised she'd snapped the polystyrene backing in her car seat as she was climbing in and thought this is fun, to then split the little balls up and snap up more pieces. A broken car seat and a messy car...

BikeRunSki · 16/10/2015 00:17

lol lol

BikeRunSki · 16/10/2015 03:43

Shock I didn't post that! .

ThreeSpike · 16/10/2015 08:02

Luckily not had anything too bad but we used to frequently get muddy footprints up the back of the front seats. They loved putting their feet against the back of the front seats and we used to get the front seat back pockets stuffed with sweet wrappers, half eaten sweets, banana skins etc ( I guess that's the best place for them so I can't criticise kids too much for that - only us for sometimes forgetting to check and empty regularly). They are all older teenagers now so we are mostly past that stage - well I hope so anyway.

My darling ds managed to post the swipe card from my Grannys caravan site down one of the cracks in the dashboard....
Might not sound that bad, but that simple act cost me £30 as I had to pay to cancel it and buy a new one for her!!!
Then there was the beanbag that he ripped a hole in on the way to my mums!
Those flipping polystyrene balls :O

My kids were winding a peacock up in the car park of a country park on a day out - it charged for them, they ran like the wind and the peacock ran straight up to the car and hammered out it's frustrations with it's beak on it's reflection on my nice shiny car... Guess the kids didn't do the actual damage on this occasion but they were definitely responsible for the end result!

I'm scared he's going to smash our window as he loves rapping on the glass with his toys!

Just lots of mud and crisps smooshed everywhere for now.

DC's have regularly left the car sticky and messy but as it's an old banger I don't care. Smile

Marg2k8 · 16/10/2015 21:59

Being travel sick in the car on a long journey.

moopymoodle · 16/10/2015 22:10

Drawn on the windows with crayon. Spilt milk and I didn't realise, it went sour and stank putrid!

KittyKat88 · 16/10/2015 23:53

On our last trip up to Scotland to visit 'nana' I made the mistake of letting DD (age 5) get a large choc chip cookie at the services on the long journey up to Scotland. Needless to say, a few of the choc chips got embedded in her car seat as they melted into the fabric beneath her bum Shock

Newly passed my test and driving through Glasgow in the m8 on a Friday rush hour, 2 year old dd2 decided it was a good time to open the door in the middle of the five lane motorway.

Dd1 had to crawl along the floor to pull the door closed while I wept and crawled along.

I learnt quickly about child locks.

Now my car is just a mess if discarded wrappers and forgotten school work.

Babbafish · 17/10/2015 06:52

Driving 3.5 hours in a car from a family visit when our puker erupted, made the other two erupt .... Vom volcanoes going off on the M6 !!!!! The smellSad

Sharjeeka · 17/10/2015 08:02

My 3yr old son reached down into the shopping in the footwell and got hold of a packet of Cheerios, manages to get the bag out and open it in dramatic fashion, showering the car with little o's! They're not too bad if you find them all straight away but they turned sticky over time and every so often you would find one sticking to your trousers when you got out the car ??

NoisyOyster · 17/10/2015 09:36

Does being 17 still count as a DC? Grin

Felt sick, too much lambrini hmmm after I picked them up from a friends house, rushes to open the car window as I'm hurtling along a motorway and can't stop, doesn't make it in time.....

All. Over. The. Inside. Window.

And then it dropped down the door Shock

She was on "cleaning the car duties" for a month!

Catsgowoof · 17/10/2015 15:08

bag of raisins all over back of car was finding mouldy ones for years

badgermum · 17/10/2015 15:32

My son was aged about four and he picked up a large stone off our driveaway and proceeded to polish the car with it !! Resulting in large circular scratches all over the door panel

Redcrayons · 17/10/2015 16:05

Put sun cream all over the bonnet so it didn't get burnt.

FYI: suncream does not come off a car bonnet as easily as you might think.

We were driving round France in a broken old camper van, which kept breaking down. We once broke down on an autoroute, and managed to get to a services where we piled out, and dh had a look at the engine. While I was off finding sustenance, dd got back in, so was sitting in the driver's seat right next to the engine. For some reason dh just left her there. Hoping to help, dd put the cap to the radiator, which dh had refilled, back on.

When I returned, I got dd out again and we had a bit of a run about until dh reappeared. He put the passenger seat back down, we climbed in a drove off. Not long after, the engine started behaving badly, and we pulled off the road again. DD had not screwed the radiator cap back on, just placed it there. Bless her, she was only about 6!

It was all a bit of a nightmare. We were towed off to a garage which spent a week not fixing the van. In the end, we had to phone the friend we had been planning to 'drop in' on, who came with a long trailer bed and rescued us, including the van - a journey taking over 3 hours each way.

Eventually, a reconditioned engine was fitted. We had few problems with it thereafter.

I have no idea whether dd's help was the cause of the death of that engine, which had been on its deathbed for a while anyway. DH certainly thought that dd was the final straw Sad

When we were washing our brand new car for the first time, I popped into the garden to get the hose to wash the bubbles off, came back to find DS (3) had climbed on top of the roof to get it clean!
Luckily the roof wasn't damaged!

BikeRunSki · 17/10/2015 18:38

RedCrayons you need a Staedtler rubber, the white ones which come in a blue card sleeve.

Redcrayons · 17/10/2015 18:43

BikeRunSki - thanks for the suggestion. the car is long gone now, but it left a mark that never came off.

selloveday · 17/10/2015 22:40

Chocolate on the seats of my beautiful Mini Convertible, which wouldn't have been so bad but they were red so any stain really shows up. Not to mention the drink stains as well!
