SEAT have asked us to find out about the terrible things that Mumsnetters' DC have done to the family car.

Here's what SEAT say: "The new seven-seat SEAT Alhambra comes with everything you’d expect from a stylishly modern MPV. It comes with an abundance of space, technology, plus a powerful and sporty edge. The SEAT Alhambra features a wealth of new equipment and contemporary styling with over a dozen “Best MPV” awards since it was launched.
“Versatility remains a designed-in quality for the New Alhambra, packed with features to keep you comfortable, entertained and in control, it’s perfect for family adventures, no matter how long the journey.”
There's a £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won, so now's an excellent time to share: what are the most infuriating/alarming/astonishing things that your DC have done in or to your family vehicle?

Have sticky fingers smeared melted chocolate buttons across your pristine seats - or spilt a million tiny beads which are still turning up years later . Have you discovered unmentionables down the back of the seats - or been embarrassed by child-based detritus when giving a lift to a colleague?

Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks
MNHQ

Dd somehow snuck the cat in, discovered him 45 minutes into our journey only after turning the radio off so try to listen more carefully to odd noise the car was making. It was our fat old ginger puss snoring under my seat.

Ds2 (aged2 and a half) decided to draw a picture on the front passenger door of my brand new car - with a stone! - I was putting ds3 in the car seat and round the other side of the car which was parked on the drive - ds2 proudly showed me his "picture" - I was not a happy mummy - I had to drive round with said picture gouged into the paintwork until someone drove into the side of the car about a year later.

FeelingSmurfy · 09/10/2015 19:29

This one was actually me -

Left a crayon on the (velour type material) back seat on a really hot day, it was impossible to remove! It made me aware of how hot cars get when they are shut though

WarmHugs · 09/10/2015 19:43

I was about 3 minutes away from the hospital having DC1 when my waters went in spectacular fashion. We'd had the car just over a week, and all I could do was fret that the seat was soaking and covered in gunk!

My ds loves to clean the windows - with nappy wipes he gets hold of - leaving smears all over them

LadyMacmuffintop · 09/10/2015 20:12

"Cleaned" it by rubbing it thoroughly all over using gravel from a driveway. You can imagine how that turned out.

BettyOctopus · 09/10/2015 20:16

Eldest helpful decanted washing up liquid instead of screen wash in the washer tank which took forever before there were no suds

CMOTDibbler · 09/10/2015 20:28

Ds decided to store some fruit in the seatback pocket. And forgot about it. When I was searching for the smell, I plunged my hand into the pocket ...

janiegd · 09/10/2015 20:29

Eaten most of a Cornish pasty in the back seat and unbeknown to me, stuffed the crust down between the seats... I didn't discover it until a nasty-niff lead me to it's decaying mess. Yuk

DSis as a child helpfully released the handbrake when DM had got out of the car to open the garage door so the car rolled straight into said garage door. Amazingly there was no damage. DM told her off, reversed the car back and got out again. DSis released handbrake again. Car rolled into garage door again crushing the front of the bonnet. DSis thought it was hilarious, DM less so!

DS ( 7) tried to vomit out of the window to be helpful as we were on the motorway. He managed to do it right into the gap where the window goes up. So difficult to get it out. You can imagine the smears and smell as the window went up and down.

OolonColluphid · 09/10/2015 20:45

My son discovered thath he could slot CD's through a tiny gap in the back of the glove box, never did work out where they actually went and any time I can't find a particular one, I wonder if it is one that disappeared into the void.

Loula117 · 09/10/2015 20:51

DS1 was told to hold onto the several kilograms of wild cherry plums we'd just foraged as we drove home. Of course he put them on the floor and they fell over and rolled everywhere - into the handbrake, under the backseats and into the boot, beneath the accelerater as DH was driving...

TheFairyCaravan · 09/10/2015 20:51

For some reason I took my wedding, engagement and eternity rings off to put hand cream on whilst DS2, who was about 6 at the time, and I waited outside the school to pick up DS1. DS2 was fiddling with my engagement ring and decided to see if it would fit in the air vent near the windscreen. As I was about to tell him to put it down, it slipped out of his hand straight down the vent! Shock I was speechless and dreaded telling DH. DH practically took the car apart the next day, but he got my ring back!

Not the kids, but when I was little my dad had a Ford Capri that he had just had resprayed. I wanted my doll's pram out and my sister wouldn't help me so I did it on my own. Unfortunately I scraped it all down the side of the car leaving a lovely scratch. My dad was furious.

asuwere · 09/10/2015 20:53

another vomit one, unfortunately... DS2 sits in the boot seats (7 seater), on our way home from a fun day in the park, he says that he feel a bit sick. I passed back DD's big floppy sun hat and said he could use that if needed but he should be fine (caring mum!) Literally 1 min from house, he starts being sick. Had to get everyone else out to get to him - his carseat, the floor, the actual seat was covered. The big floppy sunhat was perfectly clean though - DS said it was too pretty to ruin! Apparently the car isn't pretty enough! I happily went inside though and left DH to deal with the car!

Another thing which wasn't as gross. I was hearing a strange noise in the car. It was driving me mad, it was a strange rattle, but didn't sound like plastic or metal and I couldn't find it. I knew it was inside the car but could not pinpoint it. DC all knew I was looking for it as I mentioned it on every journey. Finally, 3 weeks later, DS1 suddenly announced that he wanted to go in the car to get his shells he'd collected on holiday - I never knew he'd collected any. He had stored them in the little storage drawer thingy under the passengers seat (it's a really awkward drawer so I never use it for anything and had forgotten it was even there!) So, the rattle noise was shells!

bluebump · 09/10/2015 20:56

My DS put his two hands which were covered in suncream on the nice black bonnet of my car to make hand prints and they never came off! When I sold my car the guy who bought it used a full on industrial polisher to try and get rid and they were still a little bit visible.

marymanc · 09/10/2015 21:05

My daughter suffers of travel sickness and our friends cars have been covered by her sick at least once. She is known for her 'accidents' and now everyone takes extra care when they drive her around.

whitelisbon · 09/10/2015 21:42

Dd (at 11!) went to get her school bag out of the car, and knocked the handbrake. When she got out and slammed the door, the car started to roll down the very very slight hill that it was parked on. Straight into dhs car. Which, being a teeny corsa, being shoved by a grand scenic, went for a wander too. Straight into ndns brand new pride and joy.
That was an interesting call to the insurance. Dhs car was flattened, mine was a write off, ndns took thousands of pounds of repairs, and a severe dent to neighbourly relations.

Theimpossiblegirl · 09/10/2015 21:47

Not my kids, next door. Teenage son washed and waxed his dad's car. There must have been a tiny little stone or something in the cloth, as somehow he managed to scratch it very badly. I felt really sorry for him (also glad it wasn't my car).

Fantasyland · 09/10/2015 21:56

Whilst I was trying to fit my sons bike in the back of the car he 'forgot' to tell me that he had rolled in dog poo and the wheels rolled dog poo all over the back seats.

CopperPan · 09/10/2015 21:59

When ds was a toddler he sneaked a felt tip pen out of the house on a day out and kept himself amused during the journey by decorating the seat with his lovely scribbles.

Hopezibah · 09/10/2015 23:13

who knew that sunlotion doesn't wash off cars and damages the paint permanently! Our car is covered with sunlotion handprints that won't wash off!!! All the kids have managed to get their sunlotioned hands on the car at some point and so there are hand prints of all different sizes. Looks like the car is permanently dirty and in need of a wash and i'm forever having to explain that it doesn't wash off!

NotSoSkinnyNow · 10/10/2015 00:58

A bird had poo'd on my new (to me) car. DD (4) decided to clean it as I was putting the shopping away (I thought she was bringing shopping in, 1 banana at a time sort of thing Grinas I was emptying bags)
She called me out to see it, proud as punch.....she had used a stone Shock as she didn't want to get bird poo on a cloth!

BikeRunSki · 10/10/2015 07:11

quietbatperson for sunscreen stains on paint, use a rubber, on of those white "staedler" ones in the blue card that you get in serious stationary shops.

The worst thing my children have done to my car - completely sticker-bombed the back with the stickers from their sticker books. DD then dropped the drawings she was bringing back from a craft party and loose glitter went everywhere. Not terrible, but it was a work lease car in the last day of its lease. I was up for ages that night -January- peeling off stickers, scrubbing off stickiness, vacuuming up glitter and still got charged for ckeaning bybtgevlease company!
