SEAT have asked us to find out about the terrible things that Mumsnetters' DC have done to the family car.

Here's what SEAT say: "The new seven-seat SEAT Alhambra comes with everything you’d expect from a stylishly modern MPV. It comes with an abundance of space, technology, plus a powerful and sporty edge. The SEAT Alhambra features a wealth of new equipment and contemporary styling with over a dozen “Best MPV” awards since it was launched.
“Versatility remains a designed-in quality for the New Alhambra, packed with features to keep you comfortable, entertained and in control, it’s perfect for family adventures, no matter how long the journey.”
There's a £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won, so now's an excellent time to share: what are the most infuriating/alarming/astonishing things that your DC have done in or to your family vehicle?

Have sticky fingers smeared melted chocolate buttons across your pristine seats - or spilt a million tiny beads which are still turning up years later . Have you discovered unmentionables down the back of the seats - or been embarrassed by child-based detritus when giving a lift to a colleague?

Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks
MNHQ

Glitter glue from her school project all over the seats. It's part of the car now ;)

noonoo270 · 14/10/2015 14:20

My car was pretty much a smelly mess for ages when my little one spilt her cup of milk in the car on a hot sunny day. no matter how hard i cleaned the smell just does not go away. car air fresheners must have made a fortune out of me :)

Cambam2010 · 14/10/2015 15:13

My DS (5) managed to upend a pint glass sized, rainbow coloured slushie into the under mat storage area in the back of my car.

arat · 14/10/2015 15:18

DS when he was "helping" wash the car with a dishwashing sponge/pan-scrubber that he found in the garage - no prizes for guessing which side of the sponge/pan scrubber he decided to use!!

My Son used to suffer with terrible car sickness & one long trip to Southampton from the Midlands + a Banana resulted in projectile vomiting on to the back of my chair. Obviously when you are travelling down a motorway its very difficult to just pull over. The smell was a nightmare to get out! Blughh!! We now have a bowl with us at all times

Marmaladybird · 14/10/2015 17:21

One son locked us out with the keys inside the car - as I was fastening him in his car seat, I'd left the keys on the seat and he pressed the lock button. I still don't know to this day if he suddenly understood our mimes and instructions after 15 minutes or he'd had his fun and gave us access when he was ready.

Youngest son broke the window winder, watched the mechanic fix it a few days later and then broke it again 'testing' it to see if he'd fixed it properly.

The worst thing my dd did was to stick peppa pig stickers from the magazine all over daddy's brand new car ( it was less than 24 hours old) to say he wasn't happy is an understatement. However what sticks in my mind is standing outside the school telling ds not to lick the car with lots of people gasping as they walked past

sunshinemeg · 14/10/2015 18:24

Not my DC but me when I was about 10. I was going through a goth phase and had some (what I thought was lovely) black nail varnish. I very carefully applied it on a car journey and thoughtfully left the bottle on the back seat. When we returned to the car I saw that the lid hadn't been put on right so it had spilled over dads cream colour seats!!!!

chrin · 14/10/2015 19:05

our children were taught very early on to respect other people's property including our car the worst they have done is peed on the seat and made a mess with crisps etc

megletthesecond · 14/10/2015 19:14

You can teach them to respect things until the cows come home. Doesn't mean it's going to work.

beckyinman · 14/10/2015 20:58

Projectile vomiting like the exorcist

del2929 · 14/10/2015 21:02

not my dc but my cousin had learnt how to spell her name and so decided to scratch it onto dads new car. eeek.....

ButtonMoonLoon · 14/10/2015 22:30

I am still finding glitter in my car from last Christmas when my daughter merrily sprinkled glitter that she had squirrelled away in her pockets from nursery. She said that she thought it would make the car look pretty!

CheeseAtFourpence · 15/10/2015 07:17

The latest was jumping in the pile of sand at the front of house and then treading it all through the car - two days after I had cleaned it. And cleaning it is a very rare event!

The longest lasting is the glitter from an art project that I'm finding six months later Smile

My 2 year old little girl pushed her toy pram, which held her favourite teddy Panda, into the car door when walking past. She did it with such force that there was a scratch on the car. She said that Panda wanted to be in a car crash!

JoCar72 · 15/10/2015 11:47

My little fella managed to take off the passenger side wing mirror and made a titanic size scratch all along the passenger door on the very first day I took him out on his balance bike. I remember worrying about being so safety concious for him by suiting him up in crash helmet and pads...never thought about what damage he could do to the outside world...fatal error ;(

k8vincent · 15/10/2015 12:18

For a long time we couldn't work out what the revolting smell in the car was was. We lifted out the footwell boxes and found a mouldy, putrefying banana shoved down there.

Lots of apple cores also find there way into the seat pockets. DCs are not so good at removing rubbish to the rubbish bin.

I once tried to remove bird poo from my parents' care with a scrubbing pad. Needless to say I wasn't allowed to clean the car again!

pipersky · 15/10/2015 14:03

My girls love leaving partly eaten pieces of fruit under seats, especially in the summer. Fruit flies abound gag

bettythebuilder · 15/10/2015 14:18

Dd managed to lose (or more probably, 'post') a few of those tiny plastic animals (puppy in my pocket types) down the gap where the seatbelt plugs in. The little devils have been rattling backward and forward under the back seat ever since.

Dontbugmemalone · 15/10/2015 14:27

DS1 recently decided it was a good idea to scratch his initials on the car with a stone.

I asked him "Why?" and his answer was " I wanted you to remember my name ".

Hmm Smile

EasterRobin · 15/10/2015 15:19

I'd foolishly given DD one of those squeezy purée pouches for a mobile snack on a long car journey. She's normally very good with them but was clearly a bit overexcited that day and gave it a big squeeze all over the back seat. Now she gets rice cakes to snack on instead.

Anderson8 · 15/10/2015 16:12

Dd and ds helped me wash our car. Whilst I was getting fresh water they were washing the passenger door, with magnets... Scratched door

lhlee62 · 15/10/2015 16:14

My daughter pressed the seat belt release on her baby sister's car seat so I was driving around and the car seat began to lean, luckily it didn't come undone completely, but it scared me a lot!

Cocacolaandchocolate · 15/10/2015 21:06

Been rather lucky... My children have not done much more than mess in my car... However I recently crashes (accidentally) into my mums car...

TattieHowkerz · 15/10/2015 22:56

DD is a big fan of hiding small bits of moist food that smell terrible or mark the fabric.

She also kicks the passenger seat very hard. Not a problem for me as I am usually driving, but it did make DP spill coffee in his lap.
