SEAT have asked us to find out about the terrible things that Mumsnetters' DC have done to the family car.

Here's what SEAT say: "The new seven-seat SEAT Alhambra comes with everything you’d expect from a stylishly modern MPV. It comes with an abundance of space, technology, plus a powerful and sporty edge. The SEAT Alhambra features a wealth of new equipment and contemporary styling with over a dozen “Best MPV” awards since it was launched.
“Versatility remains a designed-in quality for the New Alhambra, packed with features to keep you comfortable, entertained and in control, it’s perfect for family adventures, no matter how long the journey.”
There's a £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won, so now's an excellent time to share: what are the most infuriating/alarming/astonishing things that your DC have done in or to your family vehicle?

Have sticky fingers smeared melted chocolate buttons across your pristine seats - or spilt a million tiny beads which are still turning up years later . Have you discovered unmentionables down the back of the seats - or been embarrassed by child-based detritus when giving a lift to a colleague?

Whatever it is, we'd love to hear it!

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks
MNHQ

Pulled the rear view mirror off, broke the sun screen (that was a friend's child)

clippityclop · 18/10/2015 09:37

On our way to town 30 mins drive away, all singing along to 'Happee' on the radio. Lovely. Then, just as I'm driving round the roundabout the youngest pipes up "Come in Henry, join in!" I look in the rear view mirror to see our fat ginger cat lifted up on his back paws by my grinning daughter. 'He jumped in when I did so I let him come with us'. Cat escaped her grip as I swung round the roundabout again. He did a wet dirty protest on the floor, and spent the return journey how long on the parcel shelf. Hair and poo everywhere.

As usual, all a mad rush as we're leaving the house. 11 year old was running late for his swimming lesson.

'Just get in the car!' shouted dh as he put his shoes on.

So ds ran out, got in through the driver's door which he left open. During the clambering to get into his own seat, he knocked off the handbrake.

Our drive is on an incline, so yup, the car rolled backwards with the door open. The door hit the house and was taken off its hinges and a great big chunk of render was taken off the house!

Mine seems quite tame compared to others on this thread! The only thing has ever been DS2, who gets very travel sick, even on short journeys. Not something he can help, but not pleasant for any of he reast of us either.

OnMyShoulders · 18/10/2015 13:51

DD drew a beautiful picture of a balloon on a string.....with a stone. It looked like someone had keyed the car and then drawn a big square at the end of it. It went the whole length of the passenger door.

Cailin7 · 18/10/2015 14:04

My DCs have not done anything terrible to the car, although we have had several projectile vomitters!

feefeegabor · 18/10/2015 14:28

We gave my 3 year old daughter a little tray with a colouring book and some felt tip pens when we were going on a long journey once. She was very quiet in the back and we were congratulating ourselves on its success but when we stopped, realised she had spent the time drawing all over the back seat!

WingMirrorSpider · 18/10/2015 14:41

My ds managed to upend a 2l bottle of cooking oil all over the back seat. After we'd cleaned it up we still had residual greasiness on the seat for about a year. I had to line the seat with bin bags and towels to stop it greasing up their clothes.

What gets me in cars are the annoying crevices that it's impossible to retrieve things from. Down the side of my drivers seat are the last vestiges of a packet of hula hoops my dd dropped down there ages ago, and which neither my or my kids's fingers, or the thinnest attachment on my Dyson can reach. They just sit there, just out of reach but not out of sight, taunting us.

vestandknickers · 18/10/2015 15:18

My DD shoved biscuits down where the windows go up and down when she was about 2. Years later we've still got the same car and her window still crunches whenever we open it!

Maladicta · 18/10/2015 16:28

Dd scratched 'BUM' on to the boot lid. Tried to blame her brothers but since they a) couldn't reach and b) couldn't write she failed...

Greenfingers3 · 18/10/2015 17:26

My DS has a terrible habit of throwing stones, we kept trying to stop him, but yes you've guessed it one day he threw one and broke the rear window!

mrspremise · 18/10/2015 19:47

The little smiley face drawn scratched on the door panel with a ballpoint pen. I wasn't smiling...

ohgiveusabreak · 18/10/2015 22:12

Not my DC but my brother when we were little was left in his carseat while my mum waved me into school (standing about 6 foot away from the car).

Car was parked on a really really steep hill and he managed to climb out of his seat and take the hand break off. Cue domino effect of crumply cars.

Just to update, he's no better at driving as an adult than he was as a 2 year old.

Ferryfairy · 18/10/2015 22:26

Sun cream handprints all over my paintwork

Hufflepuffin · 19/10/2015 00:56

My one year old smeared cream cheese everywhere!

SofiaAmes · 19/10/2015 02:41

My ds vomited so many times on the cloth seats of our car that once when we went on week's holiday and left the car parked on our drive, when we came back an inch thick white fuzzy mold had grown all over ever bit of upholstery of the car!

BabyGanoush · 19/10/2015 06:53

Knock over a container with 10 litres of chocolate milk for a fete stall all through the boot.

The smell after 3 days was unbearable.

Had to have it valeted twice.

The spare tyre was full of milk too

Nightmare!

My car still smells, will never be able to sell it on now. Ever.

systemusername · 19/10/2015 08:14

As well as the usual vomit and runs.
My dc once left a opened and not quite shut lid milkshake on its side under the seat. That was pretty bad and took weeks of white vinegar to get rid.

samcornfield · 19/10/2015 10:28

Mine left a banana under the armrest in the back seat. By the time I found the source of the smell it had stained everything brown

cagsd · 19/10/2015 10:49

My youngest spilled an entire packet of Millions all over the back of the car, those little buggers ended up everywhere including down the sides of the seats, in the boot, under the mats, it was 3 months ago and I still keep finding them!

goodomens830 · 19/10/2015 11:52

I have two children. We were just coming back from a shopping trip when my 4 year old said she felt sick. Within two seconds she projectile vomited OVER the seat, in my hair and over the front window screen. It carried on for a few minutes. Then without a word, my two year old started vomiting all over herself and the chair. I think I just sat there in disbelief.

Worse thing (apart from my sick covered hair) was the smell stayed in the car for months...no matter how many times I cleaned it!

nerysw · 19/10/2015 14:03

Licking the inside of the windows is pretty gross but it's the constant crumbs that really annoy me.

oatmealcookie · 19/10/2015 19:42

Constantly banging the door against walls etc when he gets out of the car!

itsmeohlord · 19/10/2015 21:16

sitting in it on the drive pretending to drive while we were gardening on a hot summers day. Pooing in it!!

Undoing the buckle on the car seat and climbing out of the seat whilst I was on the M4.

Custardo · 19/10/2015 21:20

so going to take dh sandwiches for his lunch at work some years ago, i learned not to leave 3 kids in the car playing broom broom and pretending to drive... they ended up messing with the rear view mirror and cracking the windscreen - that was expensive
